Gee, probably not.

Lol. Savage.

We get it Jim, you REALLY like Horizon...

holy crap

I just feel this whole zelda/horizon thing has gotten out of hand and fanbases do nothing but throw rocks at each other

Not really the case about Horizon imo

is he talking about Horizon? Fantastic game, but it's not open world gaming done right.

this video makes me uncomfortable

what's up with that nazi aesthetic he's using

then he's completely way off.

''No matter who you are''
Seriously, what does that even fucking mean?

Not everyone is one sided, I am a huge PlayStation gamer but that doesn't mean I want Zelda: BOTW to fail. In fact, It's now in my top 5 games of all time.
Vice versa, I don't think any Xbox/Nintendo fan want Horizon to fail.

I can see why the other thread was locked

I get jim likes horizion, i havent played it yet but i'm sure its a fine game but, but after all the zelda kerfuffle and the horizon controversy accusations already lobbed at him, he keeps bringing it up...atleast wait a while so the fanbases calm down
Or maybe the fanbases should quit acting like socially stunted children over some fuckin' video games?

This thread is turning to shit guys just stay on discussion about the video and his opinion on being a basis for new ips.

It's great I'd just want to see some improves on the melee combat on the next game since it was lacking. Also some better side quest would be great as well.

Edit:Human AI was really terrible.

I have no interest in Horizon (not into open world games) but I'm all for more games with lots of content, no greedy DLC, cool female characters that are not masturbatory material for horny teenagers, etc.

I'd agree with most of what he says, it was nice to see this kind of game release in a complete state with no season passes or excessive day one DLC. The fact that it was a new IP and so technically solid were quite nice as well. I don't have a problem with sequels or anything but it's always nice to see something new.

Jim is right that everyone should be excited that Horizon did well. I'll applaud any well made game doing well (and make no mistake, Horizon is fucking well made), but the fact that it's a brand new IP with a diverse cast and a woman for a main character just makes that success all the sweeter.

And people should really stop bringing up Zelda against Horizon, and vice versa. They're both very good games and thinking that one is better than the other shouldn't be a reason for confrontation.

So is Zelda's succes, nothing new here imo both are good games for the industry. One is a fantastic new IP and the other is the second coming in a long game franchise since OoT.

Both will sell well both will be talked about and more.

Stop comparing them all the time yes Zelda has a higher Meta score that is cool and all but that does not mean Horizon is worse or something like that. Both sre fantastic games and people need to accept that.

Honestly i find it pretty strange such rivalry even happened Sony and Nintendo fans normally go pretty well together.

People should be happy we have a GOAT gaming year again the last one was over a decade ago(imo yeah i mean that ps2 one).

I had respect for Jim but he obviously is stirring up the pot of rage.

I don't see why people can't like both titles for their own merits.

Ending was funny.
Anyone rational does. The point is that Horizon is a new IP with a woman protagonist who isn't sexualized and is extremely well crafted, well written, well received, and is selling incredibly well.

Believes Dragon Quest is a franchise managed by Sony
Or maybe the fanbases should quit acting like socially stunted children over some fuckin' video games?

But this is the internet, that's too much to ask. Otherwise blatant racism and fascism and anti feminism would not be on the rise in the youtuber community

Tell that to Jim, he's the one bringing it up needlessly all the time

I don't disagree with his thesis that Horizon being successful despite doing a number of things that are generally seen as bad business is good for the prospects of AAA gaming going forward. It has gotten to the point though where it seems impossible to discuss a video by Jim Sterling without getting into people's personal feelings about Jim Sterling and what is or isn't really trying to do.

good episode, although I still feel hard to believe Horizon didn't had a season pass or DLC planed well before release, these things needs to be planed like that before being finished.

GG probably had something but I think Sony was waiting to see the sales before green light.

I agree with the point Jim is trying to make (especially regarding the fact that games with non-sexualized female protagonists can be successful), but he's really bad at letting things go.

Sadly, some people need to shitposts in order to get the threads locked.

ITT: people who didn't care to watch the vid and just post knee jerk reaction.

The main topic of the vid is not about how Horizon is a good game but everything else surrounding the game including social diversity, and microtransactions. He only brings up Horizon since the game seemingly has none of the shitty practices typical AAA games has like day one dlc, season passes and microtransactions.

Not only that he gives flak to all even Sony themselves with Uncharted. Please be informed before posting.

is extremely well crafted, we'll written, we'll received
I completely disagree.

Now how much longer till this thread gets closed due to these shit posts?
The video implies that you should be happy new IP is doing well, regardless of how shitty you believe that new IP is. These aren't shitposts. GAF isn't a hivemind. Not everybody here thinks Horizon's a good game.

New IPs have been doing well this entire generation. Horizon isn't something brand new. Watch Dogs and Destiny did significantly better.

Thread was locked last time largely because Jim can't let the Zelda shit go, starts the video off poorly, and the video description is shit too.

Any mention of Nintendo, the Switch or Zelda was 100% unneeded and only serves to feed the trolls further. He gave no reason in the other thread outside of "but the harassment" so I won't care to debate any further, I don't see the reason. It's in the description and in the intro, so it's part of the content.

However, yes, Horizon's success is something that's great for the industry. So is Zelda's, Ni-Oh's, the Switch's, Yakuza 0's, Nier's, FFXV's, RE7's and, likely, Persona 5's. This Q1 has been an amazing year for new, exciting IPs and smaller AA series. Hopefully it should teach the big publishers to start trying some different things, but I wouldn't put it pas them.

Horizon is a great game and deserves all of its success. Hopefully, it will help executives and marketing types see that having a female lead character doesn't have to be a risk. Treat it like the rest of your games.

Also, have some integrity and sell a good product to people without trying to gouge them for more money before they've even received the box.

All of the different games coming from all corners of the game development industry in the last few months have produced more than I'd wager most people can reasonably play (I know I can't). Yakuza 0, Ni-Oh, Horizon, Zelda, Nier, and coming up Persona 5, and I'm sure there's more. I want to see more variety like this all the time! I do wish that nearly everything wasn't going open world though. Linear experiences have their appeal too.

The enemy and combat design in Horizon is leagues above anything ubisoft (or most other openworld games) has done in their openworld games games. Side content is not the only thing that defines a game.

I have not seen anything like the Horizon enemy designs in any other game recently.

The video isn't merely about the game being good.

One of the things (among many) I really enjoy about Horizon is that in spite (or because?) of what some may perceive as being an agenda (diversity, women in power...), I found it to be extremely well done and well woven in the narrative. To me, most if not everything made a lot of sense in that weird future. And yes, I understand I am talking about a game with Robo-Dinos :)

Maybe watch the video.

Not to defend him about everything he said on this thread but the first 5 minutes he talks about all the Zelda drama (reactions to his review and metabombing HZD) and how Zelda fans are some sort of horrendous vermin?

TBH I was writing on the locked thread something about how Jim doesn't contribute to making the videogame community a better place without (stealth) fanboy wars discussions. Just by checking the most voted comments on the video and how GAF reacts to him show us that he is eventually feeding himself with all of that behavior and he actually stimulates it. Still I couldn't post it because the thread got locked before but I was also glad that the video and drama wouldn't get more spotlight from this forum.

I think this guy does the job on entertaining but I just hope he could do that without shitting on someone else (person or group).

Neither did The Order:1886, for the exact same reason; its a $60 advert for 'the power of playstation'.

Most every other game in the AAA space doesn't have that luxury and are expected to turn a profit.

Yeah, this is literally the only open world RPG that I've ever sought out combat. Most others I avoid combat when I can, often put difficulty on easy (Bethesda games, Dragon Age games, parts of Witcher 3) as I just want to get on with the quests and story.

A bit frustrating we can't talk about the video on GAF, of all places. Most of his recent threads have just been annoyingly shitted up, for lack of a better word.

Horizon being well received and selling well is not subjective
A lot of people didn't receive it well. Saying something is being received well can imply that literally 1 person out of a million liked that thing.

And I didn't quote that portion regarding sales for a reason. Of course I can't disagree with how well a game is selling.

Watch the video guys, plenty of things to discuss. Stop focusing on a simple jab about Zelda, come on.
Then make another thread when Jim grows up and doesn't make that jab.

That's because all of his recent videos have been about BotW. If he's gonna keep taking jabs, that's what the discussion's gonna be about.
