WASHINGTON (AP) Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell warned fellow Republicans Tuesday of political consequences if they oppose health care legislation coming up for a vote in the House this week.
"I would hate to be a Republican whose vote prevented us from keeping the commitment we've made to the American people for almost 10 years now" to repeal and replace former President Barack Obama's health care law, the Kentucky Republican told Associated Press reporters and editors in an interview.
"I think the American people would be deeply disappointed that we were prevented from keeping our commitment by Republicans who in the end, in effect, voted for the status quo."
McConnell sounded confident that the bill will pass the House and come over to the Senate, where it is currently short of votes. He made clear the legislation will change in the Senate so it can pass, though he declined to predict what the final product will look like or guarantee ultimate success.
This is shaping up to be quite a week for Trump. Wiretap claim shot down, Russian collusion investigation made public and now the prospect of failing his first major legislative test and creating a rift with his own party. He may even get tired of winning.
I honestly see Trump strong-arming votes for this to pass on Thursday. He and his lackeys will push and threaten until they get their way, and a bunch of American taxpayers and mid-to-low-income families will pay the price.
Pretty much. This is going to pass and millions will suffer.
Even conservative pundits are like wtf why?

Trump, McConnell, and Ryan putting pressure on Mark Meadows and the Freedom Caucus. This political gambit is a lose/lose for the GOP. If the bill fails, all their votes will be recorded and used against them in 2018. Depending on their district, some will be safe and some will get destroyed.
GOP aren't conservatives anymore. More like Grand Oligarchy Party now.
The point is to say you did what you said you were going to do, regardless if it's shit.Even conservative pundits are like wtf why?
Me and my 35% approval are going to a RUIN YOU

Strong arming with what, unless Trump is literally going to twist people's arms I don't see the GOP coming to some reasonable alternative considering how vague of a threat Trump has thrown out. The man seems committed for some reason without any real investiture in the decision making process. Fucking bizarre

Ridiculous.
Trump has already sunk the hopes of many who barely squeaked by last round.
This is basically a hail Mary. They really need this to pass and reduce premiums quickly so they have something to point to in 2018.
Blaming Obama is still fashionable. This will still be the viable thing for them to do come 2018 and 2020.
+1Like they think that far ahead. Republicans last year basically let go of the ships wheel, covered their eyes, and sailed clean through the eye of the storm. Luckiest motherfuckers alive.
That hasn't been fashionable for 2 months. Obama isn't president anymore, blaming him doesn't work.
Blaming the past administration has never worked. It didn't even work for Obama and people still blamed Bush for the economy. But it was still Obama's fault because of reasons.
Republicans always fall in line.

Yeah - if Cruz does, then what hope do the staunchest of conservatives have?
Despite our hope of discordance, we're always surprised time and again with how they come together. I really do hope that they don't but I'm not gonna be suprised if they do.
Damn liberal party is still disjoint between Bernie and Hill fans with no real positive liason happening between them atm, even when the fucking reason is right in front of them (Trump).
The changes that were made to the Medicaid proposal and the extra help for the 50-65 group will ensure this passes the House. It will be interesting (and terrible) to see what happens to the market with the mandate gone.
