I won't complaing because this port means more Radiant Historia, and possibly chances for a sequel if it sells well.

I'll have to wait for reviews to see how good is this third scenario branch.
Radiant Historia is a wonderful game, but if the new scenario doesn't add anything worthwhile to the plot, I'm skipping it.

I'm having trouble even finding any information about the original character artist. The wikia credits Hiroshi Konishi for character design and concept art, but I can't find much information about his other work. This interview mentions that he also drew some characters for Radiata Stories.

So I guess he lives in a cave somewhere and couldn't be reached to come back to do new illustrations for the remake.

So this seems like kind of a DeSu Overclocked/Record Breaker situation with voice acting, a new scenario, and barely anything else changed (aside from questionable redone art)...?

I never picked up the original so I'll be all over this regardless.

Despite the drastic change because of the artstyle and the stupid longer hair, it's surprising that they still managed to keep her personality intact.... somewhat.

I mean, I've been through a lot worse redesign. It's so bad that even my mind seems mentally blocked it to prevent me from remembering it.

Probably to give the game a coat of fresh paint and reach a... wider audience.

Games with moe art sell like shit unless there's a powerful brand name behind it. It's not attractive to most consumers. "Otaku bait" is about the most niche audience you can possibly go after.

This character art probably just came on the cheap. There's a million artists who could draw these.

Rofl, no longer interested. The new art is complete shit and it looks like they did nothing with the spritework at all. "Remake" my ass, fuck off Atlus.

This game wasn't ever going to get a bazillion sales and it would have been cheaper to just use the old art. Atlus is definitely trying to broaden the audience a bit and to use new art to convince gamers to double dip.

It's a shame this is disappointing looking for most fans.
Lol I thought the thing looked identical based on those tiny scans but reserved my comment because it's supposed to be a full remake. Keyword: supposed. Even the 3D backgrounds look the same. Only thing different is the new inferior art sigh. I guess given how the original sold this is the best one could hope for. Ah well. Hopefully the extras are worth it. But yeah full remake this isn't.
Well I originally titled it as just a remake not "full remake" but the thread title got edited by a mod, so I wasn't meaning to set up expectations.

I paid good money for this Dynex!
Well, if/when it comes stateside, I'm sure there will be a less ridiculous way to get the original art. And all things considered, this is probably still going to be the best version of the game.

I am still hyped.

I might sit this one out. Radiant Historia was amazing, but I'm not super interested in the more tedious aspects of the end game, less so with butchered portraits and untouched everything else.

I mean, at least the new art isn't outright bad. But it is disappointing and not as good as the old art; what's even up with Eruca's hair?

Still happy there's an easier version for friends to play, and that there's gonna be new content but... hoping that DLC is easy to get in the US release.

Sigh, that's not a remake. . . if the new scenario is good and adds a decent amount of content, and if the voice acting isn't terrible I'll get it. The art isn't a deal breaker for me, but it would be great to be able to easily have access to the original art.

Y'know, assuming this is brought over.

3DS really does have an amazing library of RPGs. Kind of reminds me of the PS1/2 glory days.

Will buy this if it gets localized. Atlus products getting a bit expensive though. Damn Atlus tax.

Wow this really sucks. The art style was one of the biggest games that helped the game stand out originally. I know it's what drew a lot of western players in, including myself.

I can't even begin to describe how much I've hated these ugly anime designs in JRPGs lately. And I'm someone who loves me some anime.

*head repeatedly bashing against the wall*

Sorry I just checked the actual Famitsu article.

Yes, first press versions of the game will get DLC to change character portraits to the chibi style ones designed by CHANxCO. They look pretty horrifying but cute. If you want the ORIGINAL DS portraits, you will need to buy the $100++++ LE. It includes a nice box, a full 2CD OST, a 100 page full color artbook, and a bunch of DLC stuff, most of which are undefined at the moment but including the ORIGINAL ART portrait DLC. Lol what a scam.
This is farcial
Stop hurting me. What did I ever do to you?

I really have to give it to Atlus. This was a simple slam dunk sort of thing. Take a niche but critically acclaimed catalog title. Put some effort into remastering it on a new platform and release it for the fans who loved it originally to make some profit and garner more goodwill. I don't even think people expected much.

But...

Man, the new designs/style are... not great. The style on the first game really stood out, and this is definitely more in line with generic JRPG styling now.

Coupled with the lack of other changes, I've definitely cooled on this one. Will wait for confirmation that the new sub-scenario is worth it.

the new girll has a chronicle ? Man, I hope they dont fuck this up

Anime was a mistake
Maybe the plan here is to make people think this is a LN adaptation.

WTF

Can't wait for the U.S. special edition with a 5 song CD sampler.

I saw the artwork for the boxart and it really doesn't even compare to the original.
Echoing the sentiments here , this is quite disapointing.

i'd still buy it , RH was that good. Hopefully this sub-history will deliver because otherwise , what a waste.

If it gets released in Europe (damn region lock), I'll have to buy it regardless of the messed up artwork. Radiant Historia was just too good to pass on another chance to support the game. I very much doubt that there's even a slight chance of a sequel considering the lack of effort they seem to be putting in this, but damn it, I can't help it.

Kinda don't understand why they bother with it to begin with tbh. The original released late in DS's life and didn't sell very well at all and now they release a barely enhanced port late in 3DS's life. Sounds pretty much like a waste of resources.

The art style change will lead to better sales + will ensure people line up for the sequels.

Just look at Fire Emblem's "revitalization"
