Horizon Zero Dawn Looks Unnaturally Good Because Of 'Hyper-Realism'

Saw the title and thought the thread would be about how the game is not stylized and looks realistic which I don't think it is. It has a wonderful finely painted look to
It that is beautiful. Love the art style in this game

Need to start a change.org petition to get David Attenborough to voice an NPC in the sequel.

David Attenborough for Banuk high shaman please.

Edit: actually, get him in the DLC, he's getting old and might not make it to the sequel. :[

What I want them to add:

- NG+
- Random generated Corrupted Zones (more challanging).
- Really high difficulty, offering more challange (overall story).
- Reduce ThunderJaw Disk launcher ammos, it's really overpowered.

All fine ideas although there's a problem with the "Reduce Thunderjaw's Disk Launcher" they made it a hunting ground trial so... I'd say reduce its damage ON the Thunderjaw like 50% or something like that.

Endless corrupted zones must happen.

BBC Earth documentaries continuing to do natures work.

Interesting read and I wondered that about the fast transitions: it was so deliberate I figured there had to be some design idea behind it.

Now I wish they'd asked Attenborough to lend some voice work.

Actually a mash up of his voice work over the machines just going about their business would be terrific.

Get him to do a running commentary as DLC. I'd pay $60 just for that.

Horizon looks so good, and still performs like a champ.
Hope other studios will take this as a new standard to keep fps as close to 30 as possible.

Haven't played Horizon yet and mostly been on blackout but how much do the robots interact or behave independently? I just realised that I would love an Attenborough narrated sequence of a herd being attacked by a carnivore.

It can happen, especially near a corrupted zone. I love the random encounters between robots and hunters though. Imagine a Nora hunting party coming across a caravan of Bellowbacks.

OK, so now I understand the rapid shift in time from day to night is required. Fine.

Can someone elaborate on the reason for the world to appear so 'green' at night...like looking through low quality night-vision googles? It's disturbingly horrid and completely at odd's with the rest of the games visual make-up. I wish they just let nature's light take it's course.

I'm sure it's just an artistic choice, but it can be reduced in photo-mode

I just wanted to come back in here and say this is the only game in recent memory where I am 35+ hours into it and I am still saying WOW almost every hour while playing it. It's simply hard to describe in words how technically incredible this game looks. You need to experience it for yourself.

It also helps the the protag is awesome, the story is good and the gameplay is amazing.

Makes sense. I wondered why the weather transitions were so quick. I can't complain, though. The game looks amazing.

NeoGAF's smiling token!
It’s all shot in perfect condition, at the perfect time of day, with exactly the right dramatic light angle, cloudscapes and weather.
I kept feeling that way everytime I look at the game whenever I'm messing around with photo mode, I never want to bother with the filters they added cause I already feel the game looks its best.

Yeah. I believe that would be more acceptable change. But don't you think reducing overall damage, and not just on ThunderJaw, could be better option too?

The only aspect I disliked was the rapidly changing weather. I think they could have done without such a jarring effect.

Otherwise, the game looks phenomenal!

Yeah that was pretty weird, but literally one of the very few visual flaws in the game. Looking forward to getting a HDR TV and seeing what that brings. Look awesome on standard 4K.

It makes even more excited for RDR2. There graphics won't be as high level, but R* has amazing enviromental design skills.

I also love Aloy's idle animations. Here's one.

I once loaded a fireplace save in Meridian and immediately started sprinting away. I stopped sprinting for a moment and I was about to start going again when I noticed that Aloy started panting. I spun the camera around and I noticed that she had a really pained expression on her face. She actually bent over while panting and even grabbed her side with her hands, like it hurt her. I remember being really impressed by that and I haven't been able to recreate it. I can get her panting after sprinting but I haven't seen the other animations again since.

Not sure how far into the game you are but not all areas are green at night.

Obviously it's an artistic choice but you notice that only the forested or jungle areas look green at night. so there's some logic behind it. bounced light or something.

Honestly I have no opinion, usually I don't fight a Thunderjaw near other machines and I never used the disk launcher except on the hunting ground trial that requires it.

The Kojima effect

Kojima continuing to work with Guerrila on their engine is gonna be such a good boon

The only place Guerrilla seemed to struggle was in some of the inner parts of Merridian. That orange lighting everywhere. Ugh! Otherwise simply incredible what I was seeing most of the time.

My only disappointment is the lack of water physics and proper reflection. That's a lot to ask for in this game, since everything looks so damn good.

make sure the pudding isn't too soggy but that just ruins everything

Total bullshit.

They already said Kojima had ZERO impact on Horizon. If anything he will benefit from their work, as they did all the initial heavy lifting.

Wait what?? I knew Kojima wanted to use it for Death Stranding, but is he actually working on the engine himself with GG??

Total bullshit.

From what I read, changes Kojima does to the Decima engine will be available to Guerrila?

Either way, this is a plus @_@

If I understand correctly they co-worked on the Decima engine together which is supposedly named after Dejima, a little isle for the coast of Japan where the Dutch were allowed to trade with the Japanese centuries ago. Since Decima is also a Dutch - Japanese cooperation it's a nice gesture.

One of those games where you'll explore just to be in the world it creates. Horizon has raised the bar so high in every regard for me - especially the fucking rad sound effects - that i'm not sure what could even top it at this point. So good!

Uh, calm your happy ass down. There are literally assets from Death Stranding in Horizon (easter eggs!) and they are sharing a codebase, with Kojima's engineers working on DECIMA well before Horizon was completed. Both companies will benefit from what they develop for the engine.
