Whew, finished Nier A Tomato at ~40 hours. Only missing 3 sidequests, all weapon upgrades and some database entries. Will get to that sometime later.

Funnily enough Route A took me longer then all the other major ones combined, lol.

Anyway, that was great, but I do have some problems:

- Normal is a joke after a while, and I found Hard too hard when I tried it. I think prefer the Falcom school of leveling in action-RPGs, where it's essentially impossible to overlevel because of the experience scaling.
Openish action-RPGs like this are extremely hard to balance. Usually it's just not a problem because most action-RPGs only have at best serviceable combat to begin with and no one gives a shit if you can just steam-roll everything, but it really hurts when the combat is fucking amazing like here (Dragon's Dogma had the same problem mid-game). I wish that aspect would have been tighter.

- Story was an awesome, wild ride. I was only slightly underwhelmed with the way it ended, which was a combination of:
  • Me not being familiar with the Drakengard and first Nier games which I'm pretty sure made some moments less impactful that they should have been and I can tell that without actually having played them.
  • Some revelations towards the end being a little predictable if you've payed attention and/or watched lots of anime :p
  • Some things surely flying over my head, because I've still got questions left.

To end with postivity:
- The game is really beautiful at times. The overworld looks like shit more often than not, due the a combination of crappy LOD and textures, but even then some places are stunning. The sense of scale, art design, animations, particle effects and lighting are fantastic.
- Even when it's piss-easy it's a ton of fun to play. Lots of variety as well.
- Traversal and Controls in general are slick.
- Ending E was the most amazing thing
S**t Square Enix during the was T-Shirt videa was calculated forshadowing all along, YOKO TAROOOOOOO
.
- Amazing soundtrack.
- Really memorable and haunting side-quest writing.
- And more.

Definitely on my SteamGOTY-list.

Wonder if I can hit 80 completed games in April...

Just beat Styx 2, really good stealth game despite a few issues, but the overall stealth and stage design is quite nice.

how long was it?

heh, I said in the OT something along the lines of "I have to assume everyone that is so blown way by the story and the themes hasnt watched much anime in their lifetime"

And that isnt a slight on the game btw

Somewhere between 10-15 hours.
FYI I took my time in stages, so each Mission I played, I completed in like 1 hour or a little under an hour.

So, I ordered a RX 470 from Amazon (the Sapphire model with the blower cooler, I hope I don't regret that). They have yet to ship it and the price went down by €7 after I ordered it. The transaction is already in process so cancelling the order would only make things more difficult for me. Sigh, oh well.

Just got an email that Battle Brothers is out of early access, which is great... but I didn't know it was gonna shoot up $10 when it did. So, bummer.

Anyone here have any impressions?

As an XCOM + Mount & Blade hybrid is as good as ruthless. The scale is much smaller than M&B (just a 12-man mercenary band, you can't own locations nor become a noble and so), but this benefits the XCOM side of caring about each soldier before an orc splits his head in two. The combat may seem simple at first look, but it has *a ton* of different systems and ways to be played between gear, perks and random stats.

I agree 30 bucks may feel a bit too much tho. At 20-25 would've been perfect.

Btw, Sienatar has made an OT: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1354929

What is the 7th clue?

That second gif on the store page is something else.

I see you haven't looked at the explicit picture, which is perfectly placed so that it does not directly appear on the page (you have to press the right arrow once).

I have $20 on my Steam account; any suggestions on what I should buy?

I was thinking of grabbing Monster Monpiece or maybe putting in the extra cost to buy Trillion. Are there any other suggestions that may be better games to get?

Trillion frequently goes on Sale for like 8$. Not worth it buying it at full price, even with card monies.
In fact, it's actually on sale right now for 9$ on wingamingstore, extra 5% off with voucher pcgames5off.

I get so annoyed with Nier for being one of those games with a whole bunch of areas and even enemies where there are blatant spaces / cracks etc where you should be able to run through / boost / roll through / double jump into etc etc, but instead it's just shitty invisible walls.

Edit your post before a mod comes. I suggest you use emojis as in my edit of your post.

For me, this is the difference between a GOTY candidate and a mere good game.

I kinda liked what Beamdog did with BG1 on the UI and graphics front. The new characters were ok-ish, not super well written but fun to use in battles.

With Planescape they should probably stick to the cosmetics and not try to add any new content (other than unfinished stuff).

I think it's great news as this game could reach a new audience be being on Steam with updated visuals.

Trillion is not a bad game but I wouldn't pay 20$ for it, no way.
In fact I bought it for 8€ this January (humble store) and this is the right price, really.

I still want a straight remake of Torment into a first-person engine like the Elder Scrolls. Sure the combat would be ass but that would remain true to the original.

All right, I'll wait on Trillion. No sense in using my Steam money on something that goes so cheap. Thanks for the heads up on wingamestore; I didn't even know that existed.

A good reason to buy Planescape: Torment from GOG if you haven't already. They ended up taking down the original versions of Baldur's Gate and the first Icewind Dale from sale. Of course, anything you bought previously remains in your library.

Picked up Commandos 2 on GOG only to find a thread on RPGCodex talking about how it's more a strict, linear puzzle game than one allowing for tactical freedom. Idk who to believe. Might give it a whirl all the same.

Edit your post before a mod comes.

Mmm, wouldn't want any mentions of salacious animu to slip past

I'm a bit confused by Black Flag right now, the progress tracker says I got all collectibles, (which includes "secrets", aka messages in a bottle and treasure maps) however I already used all my maps and there's still 3 buried chests I'm missing, what gives?

Some chests are just money so maybe that is it. Also, you cannot 100% the game because of some no longer available multiplayer challenges.

I think one of them must be a plan since I'm 17/18 plans and I already explored all the underwater places

Like can I not 100% synchronization? WTF
Like I don't mind not getting achievements since the game is only on uPlay anyway lol

There are some weapons and gear (maybe ship customs as well) that you can no longer get that still count towards your collected shit total. The actual mission syncs and stuff you can 100%.

The game spawns "community chests" and those are not counted in the collectibles.
