Nintendo Switch Launch Thread: Now you're playing with power; HYBRID POWER!

So this is the first Nintendo system I've legitimately loved since the N64. Now that the honeymoon phase is kind of closing there are some pretty aggravating things though.

The biggest complaint I have is how they could not offer any support for a wireless headphone. I'm stuck playing Zelda with a pair of Apple buds because my wireless Beats and Sennheiser's aren't compatible. That seems so insane to me. Especially since I know the system supports Bluetooth. I can't figure it out

Alright guys, I finally got my hands on a Switch, is there a standard list of things to check for in launch units? So far I have no dead pixels but what else should I be testing for? I calibrated my left and right joy cons for a while and put them behind my back and walked a few feet away from the console and it seemed smooth. maybe a hiccup once or twice but is this normal? I read there was something happening with the WiFi too?

I want to start enjoying this as soon as possible.

Found out my iPad stand is perfect for the Switch. Really enjoying playing this in bed.

Asked this in the Zelda thread too:

I own a physical copy of BotW and I want to go digital so I can always have the game on my system. Does the physical copy save game carry over to a digital copy of the game I buy off the eshop or would I have to start over?

So my Switch started blinking sometimes while being docked. The Screen flashes and it shows the loading Icon.

I took it out the dock and it was quite warm. Anyone else experienced this? Should I be worried?

I think I'm experiencing a bit of buyer's remorse. Keep in mind I've yet to actually turn the Switch on, but I was super excited to get a switch when it was impossible to find, but ever since I was able to snag one a few days (with Zelda), I've felt no urge to hook it up and play.

My switch like can't connect to the internet anymore I get errors constantly. Is there something I need to do to my router?

It uses Bluetooth for the joycons. It might be possible to add Bluetooth headset support someday, but then again Nintendo might not if it interferes with the joycon signal, which is already not the best apparently. Let's hope they can add it someday.

Such a bummer. Now I have to go grab a pair of wired ones

My joycons seem to have more of an issue after a few hours use - even though they should have tons of battery maybe it affects something?

Played a ton of Zelda on TV with split joycons and it was fine for a few hours and then it'd start ignoring inputs or keeping an input after I let go. At one point the game paused and asked me to press L/R and the led on the right joycon was flashing (disconnected?)

Might pick up a spare set of joycons or a pro controller and get these ones swapped out.

I feel like Pocket Rumble isn't going to make it this month. :(
Sounds like the game was close to being done at the beginning of the month. The last update the devs gave on it was that they were finishing up on some of the last bit of animation for the game, and the early access version on Steam seems to be pretty feature complete. Hopefully all that's left is for it to pass lot check.

I'm so dumb I didn't know this was a real thing. Any one will work?

As I sent mine back for a repair on dust under the screen, I cannot test this, but do a quick test with a normal headset with a 3.5mm jack. See if it still does audio when docked, and if it does (which I'm pretty sure it does) then, ya, pretty much any low-power 3.5mm transmitter will work.

I do not know how much power the Switch allocates to the jack so it may not be able to drive every transmitter. Worst case scenario is that you just use a 3.5mm M/M into an small amp circuit that then will have its own power source and can drive any transmitter (and give you a nice boost in audios as well!).

The only way this wouldn't work is if the Switch somehow shuts off the jack when docked but I am pretty sure it does not do this.

You think this would work?

The jack definitely works when docked. I use it to send audio to my computer speakers.

EDIT: Word of warning, I had to buy a cheap noise isolator(<£10) to get rid of interference.

I get horrible static noise when I try to do that. Others have the same problem from what I heard. No idea how to fix it. I don't know if it's the fan causing it or what.

Haha saw the edit. Can you give me a link to the product you bought?

I think the thing I love the most is how snappy the damn thing is.

Switch to portable mode. Instant. Go to home menu. Instant. Restart game from rest. Instant.

I didn't want to play the Wii U because it was all so clunky and slow.

It also helps that Zelda might be one of the best games I've ever played. I can't play more than an hour of Horizon without thinking of Zelda and going back

Hold down the power button on the console itself and reset it. That fixed this issue for me.

Thanks for this. I had just found it on reddit like 2 minutes before this post but yeah this is exactly it. I guess it needs to shut down every now and again, I had just kept putting it in sleep in the dock assuming there was no way to shut it down.

If the jack is active when docked (you'll need to test this), then I see no reason why it wouldn't. You could also just plug this into your TV if it supports the jack, and have the TV route the audio to your bluetooth headset.

Just tested and it worked. Thanks for the help everyone

No problem. It was driving me crazy but I just figured a hard reset might eliminate the issue. Thankfully it did.

So I noticed when I was playing Splatoon beta earlier that sometimes my character would just get stuck running left even after I let go of the stick. Is this related to that de-syncing left joy con issue?
I always thought the issue was that the joy con just shuts off. But now I'm thinking this must be what people meant.

Yep, that's the left joy con issue.

Rats. May have to send it in then.

I'll buy another set of joy-cons before I do though so I can still play.
Is there any word on if the ones individually sold and not packaged with the console have been fairing any better in terms of this issue or would I be better to wait?

(sorry for the questions but I figured someone here might know)

I'm having issues logging into the Nintendo eShop, as whenever I try to log on, it says there are "server errors" preventing me from logging in. Anyone else having this issue?

I'm having trouble as well logging online. It's nothing on my end since all my other wifi devices are connected. How do I reboot? I can only figure out how to sleep

For the first time since launch, I found myself wanting to sink time into a big game other than Zelda on the Switch and noticed the lack of such software. The Splatoon 2 Global Testfire wet my appetite for more games that aren't on the Switch yet. Having beat Zelda and now finishing up my time with the game, I think my Switch is gonna sleep for a while until maybe Snakepass or some other cool indie.
