KS8000 settings for gaming at 4k/HDR

It's a little bit of a pain, but not exactly a deal breaker, only takes 20 seconds to change the settings manually. How often do people actually switch between HDR and non-HDR? HZD hasn't been out of my PS4 since release :p

Same happens in HDR+ mode, so seems to just be an issue with the 'Special modes', I wouldn't call it a bug.

What happens if you keep the TV in HDR mode all the time to keep the settings? Does it make SDR content look bad? Do you have to enable HDR mode fon TV or HDR games on PS4/PS4 PRO then disable that mode for games that don't support HDR?

HDR+ mode is a mode to try to make non-HDR look like HDR (an upscaler) it doesn't really enhance the picture much, but doesn't make it look bad either. So it works with non-HDR, but it's not a HDR mode, it's more of a HDR upscaler.

Really don't recommend using it for games though. I was experimenting with it a while back and accidentally left it on when I started playing Battlefield 1, it was unplayable and I thought it was in-game connection based lag, but it was because I left it on HDR+ mode.

Not sure if Game Mode has any other benefits such as refresh rate also, but certainly doesn't make the picture look any worse so I'd always use game mode.

On the latest review from Rtings.com about the new Samsung TV, they mention that the "Game Mode" move to "General Settings" on the new Tizen software. Can someone ask them if the HDR mode switches automatically with the Game mode enable with this change? This might be the fix if they give the new software update to the 2016 models.

Good question. You can ask them in the Youtube video or the Q7 review page. they generally asnwer that.

Are you guys using Auto or Native color for gaming? Colors seem to pop more with Native, but I'm not sure if it's artificial. I may decide on a game by game basis, but that's sort of a hassle.

Does this TV save SDR and HDR settings separately in game mode? Unlike last year's models?

It doesn't. When the TV detects an HDR signal, it will change to the proper gamma setting automatically (ST. 2084) and change to the correct color space when it is set to auto. Other settings won't change, so to be sure you have the best settings, just set the 'Backlight' to the max and 'Local dimming' to 'High'.

Ugh did something change? For HDR on my pro and Xbox slim i've been keeping it in game mode, not her, I also make sure I have all ports but my PC switched over to UHD USB or whatever.

So, they keep the same problem, although they know about this issue from the last models.

Thank you by the way!

For my case, i'm using native for SDR and Auto on HDR. I don't know why this happens to me, but on auto on SDR content the red color is like orange and not actually red. I have more accurate colors on native. And the opposite happens when HDR is enable, so i'm switching to auto then. I will post my tv settings if you want to check them out on your device.

SDR
Game mode "ON"
Backlight - 8
Brightness - 45
Contrast - 95
Sharpness - 0
Colour - 41
Smart LED - Low
HDMI Black Level - Auto
Dynamic Contrast - Off
Colour Tone - Warm 1
Gamma - 0
Colour Space - Native

HDR
Game mode "ON"
Backlight - 20
Brightness - 45
Contrast - 100
Sharpness - 0
Colour - 50
Smart LED - High
HDMI Black Level - Auto
Dynamic Contrast - Off
Colour Tone - Warm 1
Gamma - 0
Colour Space - Auto

Got to ask.......Do HDMI cables matter
I was always under the impression as long as the $15 HDMI cable says it can handle 4k and hdr you were good to go. Do more expensive cables actually produce better pictures.

Why is the HDMI cable that came with the pro better than the one that came with the OG PS4?

If Samsung is not giving us a fix for the Game Mode issue, should we use another mode to play videogames?

I mean, if I remember correctly, Game Mode features a lag of 21ms. The lag on another mode is around 31 ms. Is this difference actually noticeable for us while playing?

Ive been playing in Movie mode and been playing ME MP and gears 4 and BF1. I havent found the lag much worse then before.

The ones that came with the PS4 PRO are HDMI 2.0 cables that have 18 Gbp/s brandwidth which supports 4K + HDR. The ones that came with PS4 are just HDMI 1.4 cables. HDMI 2.1 will require dedicated cables with 48 Gbp/s brandwidth which support 8k/10k and HDR with dynamic metadata.
The more the cable is long the less you get a good signal. Always opt for the shortest which is 1.8 m / 6 feet long to minimize signal loss.

Input lag outside of Game Mode is over 100ms and it's absolutely noticeable.

I dont find it that muh more noticeable but I dont play CoD anymore.

When i press my button it does the action inmediately. Im sure it may be slightly slower but I still murder people left and right.

Also , dynamic contrast IMO is a must in HDR mode. Much better

Auto is accurate to what is being sent from the device, Native tries to enhance it but it can end up looking garish or cartoonish. Maybe works well on some things such as cartoons, animated films, or games like Ratchet and Clank.

Wildcard berths that can't beat teams without a winning record should have homefield advantage
What was the cleaning solution everyone agreed upon for this thing? Using a cloth with even the lightest bit of dampness will take the finish off the screen (but won't mess with the picture).

Sorry if this has been asked a bunch, but curious if there's a fix or feature to turn off so the switch doesn't change the input channel (seemingly randomly)?

It's agitating. :/

I unplug the HDMI cord from the back of the Switch that is the only way I can get it to stop.

That's pretty nuts. I started up Uncharted 4 in Movie mode without realizing it and felt like something was wrong with my controller.

Wow you must really not be sensitive to input lag. I find gaming absolutely unplayable like this, especially twitch shooters.

20.9ms in Game Mode.
113.5ms in non-Game Mode (unplayable for me)

Just goes to show how different we all are.

PS4 Pro HDMI cable is a HDMI High Speed certified cable which is what you need for 4K @ 60 Hz as well as HDR. Cables do matter but mainly at longer lengths. I had a lot of trouble finding a cable that was 7+ meters and worked properly, ended up buying a really expensive one after trying several cheaper ones that were supposedly HDMI High Speed as well.

The actual difference is not in image quality but the shitty cables will have issues like screen going blank randomly, not showing any picture at all at 4K @ 60 Hz or when using with a PC you could have missing resolutions, refresh rates and color spaces.

So for a cable it's best to go with ones that say HDMI High Speed Certified or read reviews to see if they have issues at 4K.

Hi

Need some advice about setttings/best method to connect PC to the screen.

Thanks

I use Game mode with my PC. What else you want to know?

I use Game Mode for my PC as well. I have backlight about 15, brightness at 40, contrast at 95, sharpness at 15, HDR off (since hardly anything on PC is HDR), smart LED on high, black levels on normal, no dynamic contrast, standard color preference, and color on auto. Make sure your video card is set to output RGB Full as well. Looks and plays great for me in 4K.

I've bought these. So the cable replacement option has already been tried. I do however use an adapter to switch between plugging in my PSVR and the PS4 Pro. It might have an effect but I'm not sure.

With regards to using YUV420 mode, what are the negative effects of this?
In my case, I've got no PSVR or any sort of adapter but it still happens.

The only "solution" is to use YUV420 like the other poster mentioned. I believe it is not ideal, and also confusing because apparently the RGB option includes (better) YUV when the conditions are right for it. I doubt it's a massive difference, but it is a constant stain on my experience with the PS4 Pro and one that I won't be forgiving them for. It's been widely reported and they've ignored it.

PC mode is not good for c0nsoles. It messes up the colors and locks you in Native color space which should never be used
I tried game mode + native color space to compare and it doesn't look anything like PC mode's colors.

This only happens on HDR mode by the way.

Here's some pics I took to show the difference in the PS4 menu (where it's more obvious)

PC mode looks fine to me.. I actually like it over game mode. PC mode displays 4:4:4 chroma as well, game mode does not.

PS4 Pro/Xbox one S don't output 4:4:4 in HDR, so it shouldn't make a difference for this. They output 4:4:4 for non-HDR though, so I guess this makes a difference.

Is eveyone else's colour control greyed out when in PC mode?
