Bree Olson's Untold Story.

I feel sympathy for her, but I would expect people who get into doing porn to really really really really really really really really really really really really think about everything that comes with it before they do.

That's an unreasonable expectation since the industry seems keen to pursue the poor long term judgment of young women.

I don't think you read the article dude. If you don't read anything else from it, read the last two sentences.

I found that line to be pretty powerful. Bree may not have been a victim when she left the industry. But even if she was it would change nothing. Judgement on her as a person has already been passed and she may never be able to escape it to build herself a career in anything else.

Blinded by the luminous glory that is David Bowie's physical manifestation.
Hopefully her story makes a few (thousand) people think twice about doing it "for fun".

Or hopefully it makes people stop being prudes. She had sex on camera, multiple times. So fucking what?

I believe in Unions. I don't know how unions ended up the way they did in America, but I know they are a force of good in protecting people.
I'll do you one further- We need unions that protect sex workers.

As human beings, we're completely incapable of separating sexual lust from ourselves. Deprevation is always at the gates, and porn and prostitutes are along the edge of the lines between things society shuns as failures and outcasts, yet at the same time; hypocritically fetishizes and obsesses over to no end.

Women (and men) who choose to use their body for a form of entertainment or outlet for others, is in my mind, almost akin to athletes. There are regulations, protections, trials, supervisions, conduct and tests that needs to be maintained to protect the athlete from themselves and others.

There are millions and millions of people in the world who- for many reasons are unable to ever get a sexual outlet; physical or mental problems, or other demons; professional sex workers make a difference for these people as someone who can go in and give some sort of physical intimacy. Society likes to think that people who are disabled or disfigured don't have sexual outlets or that they can just hop on some handicap tinder and get laid.
If society would recognize the work for what it is instead of being harmful in its condemnation of sexual urges that almost everyone partakes in.

We don't need to get to a place where little girl wants to be pornstars when they grow up, but the least we could do is not act like a bunch of hypocritical cunts just because someone does porn. You hear stories about adult actresses being denied a bank account- it's flat out discrimination, and it pushes these women (and some men) into positions of abuse.
Fine, if you think they're gross- That's your provocative and sensibilities, but why the need to hurt them? These women are not hurting anybody and they don't deserve to be denied the same rights in society because they fuck on camera for money.

Or hopefully it makes people stop being prudes. She had sex on camera, multiple times. So fucking what?

Don't think all of it has to do with having a bone to pick with pornography, i bet most people are just looking for an outlet to call women really bad names and pornography actresses are seen as acceptable targets for gendered insults in the same way sex workers are. 100% sure most people who harass her and other pornography actresses watch pornography themselves and indulge in it because they see it as a way to sexually objectify these women.

Most people are too young when they get into it to really consider the long term consequences.

Ouch, that sucks. Had no clue she made so much, but like somebody mentioned, the rare few make alot of bank, and the vast majority release a few scenes and then are never seen again. No surprise that she is going through alot of those troubles, people are shitty and its a hard transition.

No lie, her scene on Throated was one of my favorites, and was always on repeat when I was a teenager.

it's surprising that the porn industry is a place where people can even make millions

Like who pays for porn ?

everything is a google search away

Is there a union for porn performers?
No. They dont really get representation anyway and since the lifespan of a porn actress on avg is like six months youre not going to get a union going. Obviously the producers are invested in stopping unionization, and your older porn stars with a voice like jenna jameson are conservative loons

We all watch porn, but for some reason a lot of people still think of pornstars in a bad way. They are just people. They make money doing something you enjoy watching. It's terrible that after that they won't be hired because of their past, and with the internet there is no escaping it also.

She made millions and she's broke? I'd be interested to know how that happened.
This happens all the time with young people getting sudden money. Look at sports, look at tv, movies, etc. If you suddenly make a ton of money in your early 20s, you are not going to think about the future. You buy a ton of shit, you waste it, you have fun with it. And looking back you think: I should have put it in savings and live of the interest.

Porn is easy to get into and it's easy money.

Most jobs are hard to get into and it's hard to get good money.

What, there's a downside to the easy job easy money option? Shock!

The porn industry is exploitative on the ignorance of these women.

Its really not easy or even good money. Olson made money at some point, but young women starting out are typically paying travel, board, makeup, and clothes to get thei big break that never comes

Does all of that stuff happen in every country or just Trumpland?

I could be wrong but I would assume in better countries they don't treat women in these industries as badly as American.

This may be an incredibly stupid question, but does the porn industry have any unions? Like, a SAG equivalent for pornstars? Not getting royalties for their work is ridiculous.

How could they ever possibly unionize? It's an industry where the average performer's career is measured in weeks/months. You'd need a much more stable workforce before it would be possible to do so.

Lol, how are people this naive. It's an industry that chews people up and spits them out.

Again she was young. Look at a lot of sports figures that make a shit ton of money at a young age and aren't properly educated on how to invest it.

They spend it all like it's going to keep coming in.

your right I should of said Average Big name

was she that active.... Hell was sasha Grey even that active? Like maybe the male talent has that many scenes in a career but their cheaper and go unnamed. I feel like based on my knowledge of that industry to keep the "fans" from burning out. The top talent does the rounds, of sites, a few DVD's and are in the high dozens after a few years.

Bree Olson - 494 titles http://www.iafd.com/person.rme/perfid=breeolson/gender=f/bree-olson.htm

Sasha Grey - 331 titles http://www.iafd.com/person.rme/perfid=sashagrey/gender=f/sasha-grey.htm

(links contain no NSFW imagery but titles are NSFW and they link to covers that might be NSFW)

What can we do about society treating sex professions as taboo? Why would her working as a nurse make someone uncomfortable?

And are there any companies that don't abuse, mistreat their stars? Any that do pay royalties?

Do you guys not know who mike Tyson is?

Blowing off couple of million is not that hard, at one point Tyson was almost a billionaire and yet now he is broke. Yes let that sink it for a min.

Maybe by "typical Midwest lifestyle" she meant heavy opioid addiction.

Tyson got scammed. Don't see anything about that here. She thinks that if she made that kind of money a little later in life she'd be set. Maybe she's right.

Financial management is seldom taught in US school systems.

I agree that schools should do a better job teaching financial fitness. They should also do a better job teaching basic human decency and respect. Reading the article and watching her video was rough, with the way people have been treating her like a social pariah.

Give most people millions of dollars before they're old enough to legally drink and they most likely won't make the best choices with it.

At what age should they be expected to make good choices with money?
And why is it a different age from when they're able to be in pornography?

It has everything to do with porn. Did you know that most porn stars can not open a bank account because of the stigma?

Bree is going through the same shit. People find out she was a porn star and don't want to hire her because "muh morales." It's dumb. These very same folks trade dick/tit/pus pics to their SO and then want to turn around and crucify the folks that do it "in the open."

Fat chance. Most people are highly judgmental fuckers. (who can't stop looking porn)

Sadly. But on the same hand, I can't blame the judgements when the porn industry has issues with STD's and drugs (or did. I haven't kept up). Same thing with strippers, but strippers generally have their life imploding on their own design. Not on their "industry" choices.

bro why would u pay for porn lmao

I love in a thread where people are trying to be sympathetic and talk about the presented issues we get right to one of the key things.
It is no natural that people steal porn by streaming sites (with adblockers in full effect) that nobody bats an eye.

Wow, some if you guys really don't know who Bree is. Girl was everywhere, one of the most famous at the time.

Indeed, and she was at the center of alot of the Charlie Sheen thing too

A couple thoughts:

If you enjoy sexual entertainment, you are no better than those who provide it.

So she got paid to fuck... some people get paid to kill and we call them heroes.

While I definitely understand her frustration and the double standard (to a degree—I don't think male porn actors are particularly benefiting from the "player" versus "slut" dichotomy in the way she's hurting) at its core, this is basically just the same old story of someone who was dumb with their money in a career with a limited time window. Just like some pro athlete, she decided to not finish school, chase the money, and then blew it all instead of securing her future.

That entire circus was sad to watch to see both hers and Sheen's downfall.
I only know her name because of threads like this about her/Sheen etc.

Plenty of people watch porn and don't save collections or bother to remember who anyone is.
I mean I guess, but I'd assume that with other actors/actresses/celebs/musicians most people would be aware of who they're watching.

Obviously many people are aware of movie actors/actresses/celebrities/musicians and remember their names, but are not aware of porn actor/actresses or their names.
What would that seem to imply?

It's a sad thing to see. Thing is, as a man who got a pretty semi-conservative upbringing I know the mindset and mentality she and other ex-porn stars are facing because I too was kind of taught to find pornstars and sex workers disgusting and immoral. Totally bought into it too when I was just a boy but then I turned out to be a filthy little pervert and stopped wanting bad things to happen to the people who's work I enjoyed. At least I don't suffer from the "I look at the porn they make yet hate them" cognitive dissonance.

Sadly I have a hard time seeing the roots of issues like this getting better anytime soon.

I don't think any of that has to do with her not wanting to leave her house or losing friends, employment opportunities, etc.

I find it hard to believe most people know who she is. I don't even recognize her. Change your name and live out of CA.

She made the choice to drop out of school and now she has no money making skills? It's hard to feel sorry for her, she admits it was all her decision. You can't blame the industry after you milk it and leave it.

Here is some advice, stay in school and have sex for fun, off camera.

Also don't a lot of NFL players end up broke? Google:

78% of National Football League (NFL) players are either bankrupt or are under financial stress within two years of retirement.

On the other hand, she is still young, and could come back out of retirement and make more millions.

Which is mindblowing, honestly.

Public perception aside, the industry is pretty scummy from what I have read. It is notoriously sexist, racist, misogynistic, preys on drug addicts and dumb kids, has had issues with violence, rape and disease. Personally if people want to have sex on camera and make money from it, I have zero issue with that. Though I am more put off by someone who wants to associate with that industry when you have options in life.

The years of disgusting leers and misogyny that those who leave the industry are subject to must be awful. And then all of the employers that won't hire based on history (yet will go home that night and open up youporn). Fucking hate the sick double standards in this society.

I kind of feel likes there's plenty of room in the market for those who want to start their own gig. I mean, I get the feeling that several amateurs publish their stuff on sites like PornHib for free to build a fan base and then start putting their longer/better content behind paywalls.

Some female porn stars refuse to do interracial scenes because people will stop buying their shit afterwards. I remember it being a big deal when Alina Li did an interracial scene and some parts of the internet were very upset

I think it depends on what kinds of porn you frequent. A lot of people don't go for the high production quality or scenes etc. you get stuff like bangbros or reality kings that get straight to the point without any of the extra.

People like Sasha grey and Bree Olsen are popular if your actually deep into porn and care to look at their names etc. you can find a random person on a streaming site and not even know who it is

IDGAF, I'd hire her.

However, has she stopped to take a bird's eye view of her prospects on the job market? Let's give her the greatest benefit of the doubt and take away any chance of "discrimination" by removing the whole porn thing entirely. That makes her a college dropout at 19 with prior work experience as a telemarketer. What kind of work is she looking for? And is she willing to work many more hours for a fraction of what porn paid?

I was surprised to read that she was doing premed before porn so while some of you think we shouldn't "judge" by saying "she should have..." I think we can reasonably say she's way smarter than she looks but she should have acted on those smarts and gone back to school with the millions she says she earned.

Also, why no mention of Charlie Sheen? Didn't she quit porn to live with him? I thought I heard they even got married but I might be wrong there.
