NieR: Automata |OT| "I wouldn't expect too much from this game if I were you."

Eat shit final version of Father Servo

Damn that took almost 90 minutes with 2B on hard. And I got the glitch halfway through that I've gotten in other long battles, where movement stops working intermittently for you and/or 9s and/or the enemy. Often that has lead to a crash, but thankfully this time I could beat it and save before the game crashed

Its possible but the enemies need to be near your level or lower.
you can launch higher level enemies and larger enemies if you stagger them first. I would often do combos like

[] > [] > [] > ([]) > X > /\ > [] > [] > [] > /\

and the charge attack would stagger them so the launcher would work. however if I didnt get the stagger I would continue on the ground or evade as needed

So im on Route A and just
fought Adam in the Copied City

How much longer would you guys say I have until Ending A, assuming I'm just mainlining and skipping pretty much every side quest

Not that much longer if you're just mainlining, I was just there myself earlier today and finished Route A.

Might start a new game on hard because the combat was very easy for me on Normal (mostly) since I was way overleveled C Route on. Like, I didn't have any difficulty except for
fucking Hegel
.

I want something to play over summer break, but a bit undecided. To those that have played both this and Yakuza 0, what do you recommend?

Both games are incredible and some of my favorite games of the year so far, but they're pretty different. If you want something fantastical and out there, get Automata. If you want something more down to earth with a pinch of melodrama, get Yakuza. You'll definitely have a great time regardless of what you choose to buy.

Yeah I can see why people dislike (Route C boss spoiler)
Hagel. I feel like I'd have had a lot more trouble with that fight if I hadn't already rebound my "shoot" button to a better button long ago. Meant I could just keep damage up while I was spam dodging between the bazillion attacks. RB/R1 is a pretty awful button for shooting, especially when you aren't used to holding a controller in such a way that you could press both RT/R2 and RB/R1 at the same time.

I got that glitch in the fight too, right at the beginning. Fight was pretty easy by the time I got around to his final form though

So on route C now. Couple questions.

Is 2B really dead. Like DEAD dead? I was so pissed tf off by the sequence right before that of her limping 50 acres across the map while getting knocked into that pit 38384858408 times. the impact kinda got ruined because I was so fucking happy for that virus limping across the map shit to be over. Also should I choose A2 or 9S?

You know you can map controls to different buttons right?

I can only assume you didn't read the spoiler.

(I already did that a long time ago)

My bad, guess I didn't read the spoiler properly, tbh I wished they went more the character action route rather than RPG but the original was RPG so guess it was never on the table.

Well congratulations! You got yourself caught!
Whew. Just finished C,D, and E. Completed about 90% of all sidequests and am about to buy the remaining couple trophies left as I am not in the mood to spend a few more hours grinding false endings and weapon/pod leveling(only trophies I have left really).

Great game and it is quite the followup to Nier. I wouldn't be averse to it taking on Zelda during GotY discussions actually. Can now return to Zelda and/or Horizon as this game completely stole me away from both. Actually I am seriously considering replaying Nier 1 instead...

Was about to drop money on the foil cards for the steam badge but it would've cost over $30 :\

So just got Ending C. How do I get endings D and E?
I just loaded up my save again after C and it totally made me do the prologue again, that sucked. I hope I don't have to do it again for E. But yeah, at the Bunker now and have chapter select. Do I just pick chapter 2 so I'm at the resistance camp and go?

use chapter select to go back to the A2 and 9S fight and just make the other choice. Ending E follows after

Question about ending D
Does the final choice change anything?

For ending D
just re-do the last chapter in the tower and pick 9S instead.

You could have used chapter select before you started the prologue again. You access the other endings by
choosing the other character for the final fight at the top of the tower.

How long is your summer break? If it comes down to it, I'd definitly recommend Yakuza 0 over Nier Automata, but if you have enough time to do both, Nier in general is a shorter game, so it's easier to get that done first. Experiences may differ depending on how much side content you do in both games of course, but in general Y0 has much more stuff to do and much better sidequests.

Alright, alright. I think after ending C
the game told me something about a quest at the resistance camp so I was confused

Yea, the game was hinting you to speak to someone in the resistance camp that has opened up a secret shop. can access it at mostly any chapter that lets you visit the camp

How long is route C? Finished B today. It felt like a waste of time mostly. Hope there's a lot more story stuff because I think the original Nier's story is a lot better so far.

Also where the hell is pod B? I looked all over the flooded city zone and couldn't find it.

Am I right in assuming that having the Type 40 Blade on Heavy means you can attack with Light while the blade charges up? If so that's fucking awesome. I'm messing around with a lot of weapon combinations and their final abilities but I can't tell if the game is penalizing me for having the Type 40 on heavy instead of light.

About as long as A. I was in the same boat as you with route b being tedious.

TBH I feel that route C is way overhyped here. Most of the emotional moments fell a bit flat for me since I couldn't care less about these characters. The most interesting things happen at the end of that route and then it just ends (ending c). And what is so groundbreaking about the themes for people who have experienced similar types of stories?

Did someone say it was groundbreaking?

So I'm planning on getting this but in the meantime FFXV was updated with some tracks from Nier and... how spoilery is the song "Weight of the worlds"? or something like that??

You can't be spoiled by any of the songs beyond hearing them for the first time

I know, its just that the name screamed to me "final boss" type of song.

You get 2 songs, Song of the Ancients and Weight of the world. Along with 2 new songs from the Nier composer.

The way everyone talks about it with these strong emotional reactions it certainly seems that way.

No need to get defensive.

Asking a question is getting defensive now?

Anyways, the gist of it is... the game resonated with a lot of people, regardless of whether or not it actually did something new.

Thinking more about route B, the hacking mechanic is OK but I wish it wasn't so easy and simple. They could have gone more crazy with it. Never used it in regular combat because it breaks up the flow of battle and takes too much time.

The shmup parts just make me wish I was playing a real shmup, way too easy.

And I've said it before but the fishing is so boring in this one that I wonder why they even included it. It's like they saw people (unfairly) complain about the fishing in Nier and decided to make it as simple as possible.

I like the main characters especially 2B so hopefully it clicks with me.
