NieR: Automata |OT| "I wouldn't expect too much from this game if I were you."

Only missing Ending E atm, please tell me it retcons Drakengard elements like
Eve having the Cult of Watchers symbol or you know, fycking interdimensional monsters
.

I mean, i heard that an NPC namedropping
Accord
was nothing but a tease, and i remember people speculating before release how Automata connects to the universe lore (the DKG side, the OG NieR side is well retconned) but as of now i'm not feeling it particulary, unless i'm missing something.

A self-described "Drakengard 1 and 2 fanatic" just told me Nier Automata sucks and she won't play it because you can't ride a dragon and there are "no baby gods with fully formed teeth."

I thought I had seen it all fam.

Started because a friend on FB said he felt like games weren't striking a chord with him and he wanted suggestions. I obviously suggested Nier: A.

I'll let you know when I find more games with baby gods and dragons that she can play.

Only now getting back to it and I've just beat the first boss after the prologue but man, this is scratching so many itches.

We've been saying it in the Spoiler thread, but if you're expecting Nier: Automata to be some kind of unifying Grand Theory for the Drakengard/Nier-verse, or even do more than reference or call back to stuff, you're going to be very disappointed.

Heh, i'm not actually disappointed, i mean if those things do not get explained, it still remains my GOTG; i would have just loved it more if it actually got all unified, but i'm okay with this.
But still, those things were there so its only natural i'm curious to see how they turn out.
And to be honest, they said it themselves that this would have been perfectly enjoyable as a stand alone *shugs*

Well congratulations! You got yourself caught!
Urrrrrghhhhh, tedious gameplay spoilers for Route C:
The Soulbox
can fuck offfffffffffffffffffffffffffff

fuck fuckity fuck fuck fuck

Well, that ground Route C's great pacing to a big fucking halt.
I've gotten considerably less shit at hacking, but maaaaaaan, there are soooo many chests and they're all so loooonnnggg to hack and aaarrrrghghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I've run out of the tower to save just in case. I swear they just need to give you one more hit point of life whilst hacking.
I suppose it wouldn't be a Taro game if I didn't want to punch something at some point.

This tantrum was brought to you by the letter 'C'!

EDIT: I changed it to Easy.

That solved it.

...arrrrghhhhhh....

Equip an Auto-heal chip? They should prevent you from dying pretty handily any time your health gets low, and you should have plenty of healing items on hand at that point. If not, just blow a few thousand at the next shop. Money should not be a concern at this point.

I basically ran around with attack chips, auto-loot, heal-on-attack, and heal-on-kill for as much of A, B, and C as I had them. I can't imagine swapping them up significantly for the remainder.

Holy shiiiiiiit, I have
spawned Emil about 100 times, and anytime he takes the route near the camp, he WILL NOT sell me his exclusive weapons. This is even after trying it on all routes and cycling his dialogue 5+ times each encounter.

I am about ready to throw in the towel, absolutely cannot figure out what is wrong here.

It's not enough that you spawn him on that route, you have to make him stop very near the Resistance camp to even have a chance of having him sell those weapons. It's a pain, I know.

I'm trying to stay away from the OT for now to avoid spoilers, but I just reached a part I HAD to comment on, even if I suspect it's already been mentioned a few hundreds times.

This.cannot.continue.

The setup, the fight, and my god the music! The whole thing had me shivering with excitement. This OST is fantastic and so well integrated in the game.

Alright, I'm going back in.

If you liked that one, you'll probably like another one even more lol

Thank you guys, that was quite frustrating to figure out.

I am a little ways into the game now (first path I guess) and I am not liking it as much as I thought I would.
Just got to the Forest and fought some of the Forest King's soldiers and met Emil for the first time I guess

I think I might need to up the difficulty or something because I find it pretty easy. Also using the ranged combat was pretty distracting until I switched the controls around a little bit (R2 for action button and O for dodge).

Just a bit ago I was a little frustrated with the map, thinking it was terrible, then I talked to the NPC that explained why it sucks for me which was pretty funny.

I feel like I am missing something or the game just hasnt clicked for me yet. Help me Nier Gaf, what am I missing?

Keep going. It didn't really click for me until the second play through. The combat was pretty easy for me too, but it wasn't the main draw for me once I got a handle on what the game is trying to do.

So, does the games quest play out different depending on you respond? Example
In 11B's Memento you can either tell or keep to yourself about her planed desertion. Is there any difference?
On a slightly random note, god is this game fantastic, I just picked it up the other day and have been enamored by it since.

See, it's a pretty big thing to casually drop into the game and then never expand upon it :/

Got to play more last night. The first weapon shop including weapons for the first game and the masks the desert robots wear are awesome! Really cool nods to the first game this early on, I'm really digging it.

Got ending b yesterday
hacking with a bunch of auto heals felt really cheap, since I usually had more than enough time during the hacking to completely recover any damage I had, even when I failed

Any Gaffers who want the OST direct from Japan, I will hook you up.

Pulled the trigger and bought this game today. Over $60 for one of the few remaining Day One copies with downloadable Grimoire Weiss pod - the pod isn't actually going to have his voice, is it?

The opening stage, which I had already experienced in the demo, was surprisingly hard. I used a ton of healing items, but did get through. Now back to base and on to the "real" first stage.

Just a thought: the spelling "YoRHa", with the consonants capitalized, reminds me of how people analyze the roots of Hebrew/Arabic/Semitic words and we've seen then use Hebrew writing in Nier and Drakengard. Could there be a word containing Yod, Resh, and Heth? Why yes, yes there could, and it's
where all the humans ran off to when the aliens attacked
; Taro, you madman!

no, by the end of the game almost every material is available in shops. When I say almost every one I mean all but 4. Simple gadgets and Powerup unit s/m/l arent in stores. Powerup units are only for pods. I cant remember if any weapons use the simple gadgets, but one of the pods does.

After finishing 57 quests and collecting all the weapons I had well over half of them level 4 already, and easily had enough money to buy all the materials to upgrade them all.

That was clealry directed towards the player himself lol

I dunno, considering how the entire game is about how machines and androids act like humans, I feel it works for 9S too.

That said, it's possible the reason I never thought it was aimed at the player was because as a woman I've not had that thought even once, lol.

Yep,
unlike Kojima I did feel ashamed of my words & deeds. Funny how Taro was like "I just like asses" when there was actually bit more to it.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaactually
there is a reason it is a four letter censored word. During the course of the game they do not censor any other strong language, in audio or text form. So why would they censor it there? What other word could go there? Maybe think back to what you learn during the quest where Jackass asks you to fight machines over and over

You're going to have to remind me. I did that quest at the start/near the start of the game(even though I probably shouldn't have - it was a challenge at least!), it's been a long time.

Well i thought it was directed towards 9S but it also works as a taunt for the player.

Kill? Love?

it was
androids have a reaction from fighting and killing that is similar to the pleasure reaction humans get from love and sex

though to the original spoiler
I think the censored word is definitely supposed to be both of those words at the same time

I was thinking a lot about this message(well of both the phrasing and the word... for science).

The fact that the message is shown on a separate screen and is pretty sudden now seems more like a meta-message to player rather than 9S(we play as him anyway and probably associate ourselves with him at this time). And with no swearing in the game, I think a lot of people will easily "read" it like this and it is clearly intentional.

But with Jackass research and novella event I am still not sure. Yoko please stop doing it to me :(

Ah yeah, that's right, I remember now.

That's true.

It's left censored because there are a multiple words that fit depending on perspective. Both as the player and 9S. It's left up to interpretation by the player, both as active participant and as observer.

Like a lot of things in this game, it's complicated and there's not a good singular answer.
