Eurogamer: Next COD is Indeed Called COD: WWII

Boggles the mind how anyone could want yet another modern war shooter over this. What more could possibly be milked there? There's been probably 10 times more shooters in that era than there ever were for WW2. At least two or three new ones come out every year even without CoD, and if for some reason you only play CoD games, they just released MW Remastered.

I am so excited about this! The name could use some work in my opinion but it's great to be back in WWII! We've been in the modern/sci-fi era for so long now that I've been thinking about going back to the older days. I loved Infinite Warfare's campaign, thought it was top notch, but I don't mind at all going back.

Some of the comments here are just hilarious. Younger gamers don't understand just how much we've been swamped with WWII games? I've played every Call of Duty along with the other main shooter games and I'm definitely not a really young casual gamer.

Modern Warfare is the root if Call of Duty? The fourth one? What about the first one? Is that not the roots?

People will find any reason to either hate or pass on Call of Duty nowadays. Then defend it by saying it's either true or an opinion.

Every time period has been milked.

I personally think COD should have stayed with future. The last two future games were bad because they were bad games, not because they were futuristic.

Played a handful of matches of COD IW MP... there's a serious issue with those developing the multi-player. AW was bad, Ghosts was medicore, and IW was utter garbage. BLOPS3 was good because Treyarch who's been doing this for years did the MP. (ironically enough, the SP in Blops was the worst of this generation...)

Sledgehammer got to the keys to the COD franchise without having to earn them. They've made the MP considerably worse with worsening map design. I really don't trust anyone other than Treyarch with COD MP.

Oh yes!.... this is great news, as long as they deliver a good game, with a proper and high quality campaign. I hope they don't pull any weird time travel/modern elements, in some convoluted nod to the current generation titles [I would not put it past them]

Funny this though, as I was in the loft today and dragged down some of my old games for my son to have a bash on, and the original COD was his first choice to install on my old PC, which is now his. It has not aged well in looks, but he is loving it!

Bring on more WWII....

Is it just me or is Eurogamer these days often like this, just confirming things, but not adding anything new to the table?

It's called a quota...

You gotta have the pages to draw the views.

It's no different than Friday Primetime news going over the same content they went over Monday morning just in slightly different context.

Am I the only one who would like to see an old west/Civil War style CoD/BF game?

Where youhave like horses and trains and Henry repeating rifles, gatling guns, etc?

WWII is still a better setting then modern/future imo, that's just such a bland setting.

There's probably been more modern AAA shooters than there ever were AAA WW2 games. It's time to switch it up again. It's been almost a decade straight of the AAA games being modern. You have a ton of options on this gen alone if you want a AAA modern shooter. You have zero options for AAA WW2 this gen.

Will keep an eye on this one then. So Damn over modern and future nonsense. Unless they find a way to sneak in exosuits and wall running, it may get me to buy. And screw the nonsense sp campaigns, keep it real.

If I want to play future stuff ill stick to the superior Titanfall.

just tell me about the servers, nothing else matters to me at this point considering the last two I owned were lag fest messes.

I am curious to see what we see when this releases.

I fully expect there to be some kind of wall running/double jump mechanic though. Somehow, they will show horn it in.

Really looking forward to seeing this in action. Hopefully it'll look good enough.

I just want to use the Kar98 again. So awesome in Call of Duty 3. Probably my all-time favourite videogame weapon.

Not even WW2 setting is gonna be enough to make me try the MP on this. I have no confidence in Sledgehammer and there's also Activision's greed in supply drops. I'll probably pick this up when its cheap for the campaign.

Fantastic. I'm excited about a return to WW2. Hopefully they figure out a better name, but I am fine with the name staying if the alternative would be "CoD: *insert word here* Warfare."

We've run outta wars, gotta start the cycle over again. Then we'll get Korea/Vietnam. Then back to the 80s/90s. Then 2000s/Iraq. Current Day. Future. Repeat. And Zombies, of course.

Wonder how all these Alt-Whiters are gonna feel about mowing down some Nazis.

I'd be in the dick
Hopefully it's just this one in WWII

I want to see the setting in a modern engine with a AAA budget but I've played so many games set in every front and battle of WWII that I was hoping we'd see something else.

Why not a modern shooter with World at War remastered?

Infinite Warfare sales weren't too shabby...

What about no more paywall remasters and a new game instead?

We dont need two CoD games every November now. It just splits the playerbase way too much.

I rather have a fresh game instead of a remaster i already know every in and out.

My only worry is that WW2 will be as campy as the MW Remaster. Really not a fun game to play anymore.

When was the last ww1 game beside bf1 and indie Verdun? Also there is a lack of triple A Cold War era shooters as well.

If this game turns out great this maybe the first CoD game in this gen that's going to get a sequel.Especially Infinity Ward is in trouble with sequels.

They created 2 different world from scratch Ghosts and IW and both critically and financially they are the least successful CoD's in a long time.

Advanced Warfare's sequel is also not very likely but definitely not impossible. But Ghosts name is definitely dead and Infinite Warfare 2 is the last name that community wants to hear at least today.I think only option left for Infinity Ward is to back with Modern Warfare 4.

Here's my -maybe super wrong- vision;

Sledgehammer probably going to be very successful with WWII people may even want a sequel.Let's say Sled stayed at WWII.

Treyarch probably won't going to make Black Ops 4 because BO series are too tired at the moment (especially 3's singleplayer was "train"wreck).Just like Sled teased WWII weapons at AW's multiplayer,Treyarch added some old era weapons for BOPSIII it's very likely they are also making a old era game and imagine you are jumping back to BOPS4 with jetpacks after WWII it doesn't sound good.

So what's left for Infinity Ward?I know some folks at GAF really liked Infinite's singleplayer i'm one of those people but the overall community is so uninterested to the game they're still adding DLC to the Black Ops 3 people even want DLC5 for Black Ops 3 and IW's DLC sales are really bad.Overall as much as you like the setting IW is a financially unsuccesfull game in Activision's book.

At this moment only Modern Warfare 4 can save Infinity Ward's track record,a next-gen Modern Warfare is what CoD community wants even though i knew most of the GAF would choose Infinite Warfare 2 over Modern Warfare 4.

I'm super happy it's coming back. I never really got tired of WW. It was nice going into cod 4 and MW but around MW2 i was tired of the modern stuff. But honestly I really hope this catches on because I want EA to bring back Battlefield 1943. That game was so fucking fun and the maps were gorgeous.

Im all for more WW2 games.

Problem is, Im all done with CoD games with the latest release killing any of the last lingering desire to play them.

I look forward to the other October/November releases :)

This shows how important it was to them to make it super clear to the consumer that this game is absolutely set in World War II.
