If I bought Destiny - The Collection now, would I have fun?

Title says it all! I'd need to play with strangers (the100.io looks interesting) so I was curious to see if I could get a lot out of this before Destiny 2.

I'd probably just wait for Destiny 2. Destiny 1 is really fun but seeing as you can't transfer your character over and that, you might as well start fresh this winter.

If you're desperate though, you could buy vanilla Destiny for super cheap on disc and muck about with that. It doesn't have the best content but it might tide you over for a while.

Yeah, of course. It has some of the best shooting and controls in the business, and although it's better with friends even playing the campaign alone is pretty good. I just wish it had more structure and linearity during the missions and the plot was more meaningful.

Yes make sure to play with a few friends or hookup with a few gaffers. Makes the experience alot better.

You can also try to become friends with players online and play with them.

It depends on price and whether you're OK with realizing the game's population will probably drain out once Destiny 2 releases. By all accounts, virtually nothing of import will transfer over into Destiny 2, so you're playing solely for the thrill of it (and with the right crew it's pretty amazing). So there's a clear expiration date, FYI.

I have nothing but love for the100.io -- used it constantly and met a lot of great people -- but I do think you'll have a slightly harder time finding games since I think a lot of players will be gunning for the brand new updates (which is endgame content). On the other hand, I suspect a lot of new/barely played players will wander back, so there might also be an influx of brand-new players right at your level.

The GAF OT in Gaming Community is also great and super-open to newcomers, so check that out too!

It's a great amount of content, so sure. September is still pretty far away. But as already posted; playing with others is the most fun way.

You will get plenty of hours out of it if you enjoy it. I can't tell you if you'll enjoy it. I found it quite enjoyable and addicting. I love getting new gear and upgrading. The shooting gameplay is so good. There is a lot of grinding though and you'll be returning to the same locations multiple times throughout the game. For the base game don't expect a great story. I still don't have any idea what it's about really but I heard that the latest expansions really improve the game. I'm currently going through the game again and will be playing the last 2 expansions for the first time.

I played most of it solo. You'll be matched with other players for some modes but others will require you to find people on your own. In fact that is what made me stop. I felt it was useless and a waste of time. I really hope Destiny 2 has some in game feature to help people find players for raids.

Definitely, there's a lot of content in there and there's still a long enough time until Destiny 2 for you to enjoy this and get your money's worth.

Probably. It has a lengthy single player campaign. However if you are typically a thrifty gamer its probably better to wait for Destiny 2.

if you do buy Destiny 1, factor in the purchase price of the microtransaction that allows you to fully unlock 1 Classes skills/movement abilities. Bungie rebalanced the XP gain system after post Vanilla and it seemingly takes quite a while to unlock this stuff now.

Actually they adjusted the xp system and made it a lot easier to unlock stuff now. Vanilla was crazy.

Does that include your class abilities? Last time i played was for a few weeks after RoI dropped and it was pretty punishing. Its not a huge deal if you already have 1 class fully maxed, but if you are starting from scratch (potentially 3 times) i would imagine its a bit of a potential hassle

Not usually a fan of first person shooters, but this game has some of the best gun-play I've ever experienced. Since launch I've sunk 370 hours into the sucker. Whilst it's thin on narrative and a little grindy, I've found the gameplay to more than make up for this.

I think it's relatively cheap for the collection now, and there's enough content to keep you occupied. As others have said, it's better played with friends which isn't neccessary to enjoy it, but there is a vast and loyal community out there for you to explore. The destinythegame reddit is very active and there are some great matchmaking tools out there.

It's not a perfect game by any stretch of the imagination, it struggles from the limitations set upon it by previous generations, as it had to be fundamentally the same game on PS3 & 360. Load times can get long and tedious, for example.

From someone who loves the game, I would say go for it. However, I can see how it's not for everyone. Some of my friends were let down by the game, simply because their expectations were set way higher than Bungie could deliver. It might be worth watching some videos and seeing for yourself if it's something you'd be interested in, but if you can afford the humble price it might just be worth grabbing it and taking it for a spin.

Yes, but it's absolutely only fun with friends/online buddies.

Playing single player will make you cry with boredom.

i played through most of it on my own and it was enjoyable. better with other players yeah but it's fine to play through on your own for most of it.

I say wait for Destiny 2. I dove into Destiny kind of late and the game didn't really come into its own until a new expansion came out and the game was no longer stagnant.

I was about to make this same thread. When the game first came out I played a ton of it but lost interest before the expansions came out. I'd be playing on my own too.

If you're on PS4, OP, I'll play with you!

I jumped in 6 months after TTK and I had a lot of fun. Played solo for the most part, played a lot of crucible games too. It's a really fun game with some significant flaws but I'd say it's worth it.

nope, you're far too late

believe me you will hate the game more than having fun, especially if you don't have anyone to play with

the community is cancerous

i'd say wait for Destiny 2

How much would you pay for it?

I only found it worth it chatting with friends, even with all the content added on, so I wouldn't have paid full price for it but certainly ~30-40

This is one of the most nonsense posts I've seen in quite some time.

The Destiny community is incredibly helpful. One of the best for any game currently. Simple as that.

Thanks for all of the info here. I can pick up The Collectionfor $39AUD ($29USD) on PS4.

It seems it might be worth grabbing, and if I can join a group online it will be even better. If I do end up solo, are the expansions worthwhile?

I'd suggest playing with someone who starts with u. playing with someone higher level than u is going to ruin the fun. It's better to get a friend to play alongside. Otherwise wait for Destiny 2.

All activities are only fun in co-op. Playing alone is good but not fun, so i would advise against that

Not recommended for playing solo. It's a team based game - strikes, missions, and raids, are meant to be played in co-op. Raids in particular require a lot of communication and teamwork. Not worth it solo imo

The expansions are essential.

Doesnt Destiny have a free trial on PS4? If you have good internet, maybe download that (it will be huge) and have a taste before buying in.

Another way is go down to EB Games and buy a used copy. Then you have up to 1 week to try it. If you dont enjoy it then you can get a full refund.

I met a lot of great gaffers that's first year after launch. Unless the community has changed dramatically since then, it's one of the best online communities I've seen out there. Not sure where you get "cancerous" from ?

Best thing about the game is the community around it. Game itself is fun but way too much of a grind for me

Make sure to post in the Destiny OT in the community. Your a gaf member so take advantage of it instead of going on lfg. There are people who love helping new players, but I'm not sure if they're still play

5 months out from the sequel, I don't really see the point. They're likely changing the game wholesale so there won't be much carryover to Destiny 2. Better off just waiting imo.

The class maxing is still taking a lot of time it's very long to do all three but it's much more easier than during vanilla.

The expansions have been integrated into the base game. The collection comes with every expansion so you won't notice any segmentation between base game and expansion. The missions will flow naturally as part of various quests.

Mind sharing your experience? Or are you just shitting on Destiny for the shake of edginess?

& to answer the OP - yes, absolutely. Here is the Destiny OT if you need help with anything.

Edit #2 - OP, you have a GAF account. Forget about the100 & LFG sites, hit the OT if you pick the game up. You'll find better help there than you would anywhere else.

I still love to play Destiny. Even the single player campaign is fun. The story/narrative is crap, but the gameplay is top notch.

Edit:
PvP crucible matches only work for me on weekends. Not enough people during the weekdays.

My personal experience as a solo late joiner was basically "meh".

I got Destiny plus The Taken King DLC, because I had started to hear the game story got good at that point, the problem was making it through the crap before it and I honestly quit around the second planet of the game because of bored I was.

If you can make it through that however, I guess you're in for a treat.
