Snake Pass |OT| Snake Had A Hard Life

Got this on the switch since it seems more like a mobile game, in regards to structure (obviously would not work on a phone).

Solid port and I don't mind the blurryness after a while.

Also I completed level 4 and received something from a gate spirit or whatever...no idea what it is though since the cutscene ended abruptly.

There's a logic bug in the brightness options. If you change direction it skips out some values.

The first use of the bird not working after a respawn is a really annoying bug.

It unlocks time trials... on versions other than the Switch.

Man this screams Nintendo joy!

Loving it. Bought the PC version and streaming it to Vita to play in bed. Works really well (I'm using a program called moonlight that lets you stream and tweak the rear touch pad how you like, giving it more space and deadzones from the sides and bottom - I even played rocket league online like that lol).

Streaming at 60fps, from PC at 1440p and max settings.

What's your PC specs?

Was torn between PS4 and Switch, but it'd be a pretty sweet game to play portably. Think I'll download it tonight.

Now to see if I can finish it before Persona 5.

Goddamn I did not know the vita could do this! this is brilliant!

I definitely see this as the type of game to really piss people off with its controls initially. That first coin under the bridge took me many, many tries. But once you learn how to grip and maneuver your head, things really come together. It still presents plenty of challenge, but you feel like you're far better equipped.

I like that the mechanics don't really explain how to be efficient. I'm curious as to how everyone is approaching the basic three button move set.

I think I actually just hold most of the buttons down a lot of the time. If you're holding the 'gas' and 'brake' button you stay pretty still. Then I maneuver my head and let go of the brakes, reapplying them a second or so later. I just repeat that process, making sure I'm tightly coiling myself around as much as possible.

Another strategy I like to employ: If the coins are below me, instead of using my head to collect stuff, I'll use my tail. It takes a bit of planning to align yourself, but you often save yourself from having to climb all the way down, and are rewarded with a very simple climb back up.

Is there any incentive to collecting absolutely everything including the golden coins? Does it unlock something later on?

For one, achievements, but Sumo said there is also something else? I'm 12 levels in, having only missed one orb, so I may know soon.

It's really damn good! Just sorted it out yesterday and was playing GTAV from my PC last night. Pretty easy to do with the henkaku online exploit!

It can run steam in fullscreen mode very easily and quickly so you have a great way to select your games (and anything you've created a shortcut to in steam). Very, very fast and no noticeable latency with the right setup.

I'm too dumb for this game. Level 4 already is too hard for me. I can't keep the snake on the pole. He will always fall to his death

edit: Yeah, I give up. This game is amazing but pretty much unplayable for me after Level 3

Try to work with the ZL grip when trying to climb and wrap. Use that to basically stop your body from falling and move your head around tighter around objects. It almost feels like driving a manual car or something - ZL for clutch, ZR for gas.

That's a great analogy and might work for me, thanks. On to getting that stupid tank-controls-thinking out of my head. Will keep trying!

980ti
4770K i7 @ 4.4
16GB Ram
SSD

I grabbed an old router I had, installed gargoyle custom firmware to it, and set it up as a local network (with online) for game streaming without lag etc.

Huh, I'm not even getting a solid 50FPS at 1080p with an RX 480 and i7 6700 @ 4.4 ...

There shouldn't be that big of a difference. Maybe I'm overlooking something?

You can stream PC games to Vita?!
I have a Vita with Henkaku that I never use, time to take it out again

^ I mess up a bit with the movement being camera based. I've been trying to keep the camera behind the snake to cheat :)

Easy controls definitely feel...easier. Decided to stick with default and take on the challenge.

Yeah haha, it's not that well known. Moonlight is the program. Make sure to get the newer version direct from github.

They have it for Android, iOS, PC ... but no WiiU, which is a bit of a shame.

Works using the same technology that Nvidia uses for gamestreaming to Shield. In fact I think you have to have an Nvidia GPU as you need to turn on the option for gamestreaming in geforce experience. Then it connects to the PC and asks to be paired :)

Really sweet program. Customise the bit rate, control mapping, framerate. Awesome dev.

I''m not sure what it could be....I didn't make any changes. It may be a game that runs better on Nvidia than AMD... I'm not sure, sorry dude. I've been playing mostly on Vita so I might not have noticed the fps dropping, but I turned on the FPS counter for the starting area and it was a locked 60 on PC before I switched over.

Having a lot of fun with this, you feel really accomplished once you start climbing complex structures. Visually it's pretty, musically it's a treat.

For those struggling, just persevere and you'll get there. It's all about technique, I sucked until about an hour ago and I'm still not perfect.

Picked it up on Switch, I've played in both handheld and docked and I'm still impressed with what this lil console can do.

Definitely going to take a look at Moonlight.

@FunkyDealer
6700k + 1070 (o/c @ ~2025Mhz/4608) here and 2560x1600 @60fps locked but I just started (second level)
Edit: scratch that I get some dips now and then
The GPU usage is quite high though (regularly at 90%+) so it might not hold in more intensive levels
The RX480 should be able to do 1080p @60 though
Might have to wait for new drivers or a patch from the devs

Can confirm this now myself, finally. Almost wanted to give up but the analogy with clutch and gas did the trick. Almost wanted to give up but just now 100%-ed the first two levels. It's a lot of fun once it clicks with you.

And also second the Switch impressions. Docked mode looks pretty great!

Wow I was totally wrong about the resolution earlier, looks great all things considered though.

Enjoying the game, a great original idea executed quite well.

It's unplayable for me the way it is. The pro controller sounds like it wants explode every time I hit one of those orb things. Hopefully it is patched quickly

You can turn vibration off in the console system settings in the meantime.

This game should have an option for tank controls. I feel like it would be more logical.

When I started playing the game my brain just assumed tank controls, no exactly sure why.

Is this comfortable to play in handheld mode or is the button configuration awkward in some way?

Lack of tank controls aside it feels great to me so far. I'll probably play the entire game handheld.

Ah, see the first level is pretty light. The second one is a good indicator.

Give me a second, I'll run it on PC and check the framerate.

Yep, drops to 50fps after sometime progressing into the second level at max and 1440p.

Wow I am rubbish, there's two coins on the first level I simply can't find.

I ran through the level a second time to find them but also missed out on 2. I have a suspicion that they are near the
trees
, which are a bit off the path, but I couldn't make my way there yet and wanted to keep playing. Will go back after getting some more practice in for sure.

Man, what a pleasant game. Have finished the first five levels so far. I am playing the Switch version. Looks good docked, looks kind of blurry handheld (but still okay). Loving it.

Are you using grip? Also try feathering the Slither button while climbing, this should help slow everything down and let you climb at a more leisurely, controlled pace.

what is up with the joy-con rumble in this game?

I thought people were exaggerating, but after the first water drop I picked up I was all "NOPE." and turned that crap off.

Apparently the devs have said there will be a fix soon.

Bit dramatic, but okay. It's noisy sometimes, sure, but it doesn't shake the console right out of your hands.

Some of the coins are placed in downright diabolical places... Every time I see a coin underneath or on top of a single pole of bamboo/wood, I don't even bother because I know I'm just going to fall over and over and over.

Anyone having trouble just remember patience can lead tk success and I found tapping zr while holding a can make you go up straight polls with ease

Anyone finding the joy-con rumble on Switch to be really annoying? When you collect the blue orb things (sorry don't know what they're called) it's a really high pitched vibration and is really audible. Quite distracting!

Other than that, fun game so far. Will take me a while to master the controls though...
