Yooka-Laylee Patch: Fixing camera & performance issues

Article here

The update resolves a number of glitches and improves general performance. In particular, it takes aim at the game's camera - one of the rougher aspects of a not-unworthy platformer that is a little too in thrall to the classics.

It was posted in the review thread but people requested a separate thread in case it gets buried.

Considering these two issues are pretty major, I'm glad they're addressing them this soon. Great news.

Out of 5, 10, or a hundred?

going by the review thread's standards, depends on the reviewer

Yes!

I hope at least a few reviewers that detracted points due to these factors take the time to update their scores.

Might be interesting to see the fresh round of reviews for when the Switch version launches. An improved camera is quite a major refinement.

Dang, they couldn't check some of this during playtesting?

Oh, well. It seems like the game's biggest issues will already be fixed before launch, so that's wonderful for those of us who are still interested in the game.

This whole thing is nuts. Review embargo is up, reviews come out, and now the patch is released in seemingly record time, already out on Xbox One and the others within days, all before any actual consumer gets their hands on the game. The timing just seems so bad! I'm glad it's getting fixed, and the timing is not such that they could have turned the performance around "because" of the reviews, it had to be in the works much earlier. Maybe they should have not had reviewable copies until the patch was ready? I dunno.

Yeah it's very odd timing. I'm glad it's coming at least.

Call me cynical, but this just seems like a way of pandering to those who were on the fence. They'll see this news, think 'well, it'll be fixed when I buy it at least!'.

I doubt you'll see major changes.

Definitely waiting post launch. I'm fine with old school, not fine with major performance issues (x1)

Really glad everyone rushed out their reviews as fast as humanly possible instead of waiting till the game was content\patch complete. Great job!

to be fair, I think that's more on Playtonic than the reviewers. They chose to make the embargo end several days before they put out the patch.

The "performance enhancements" seem to be area-specific, meaning it doesn't seem to address the overall issues on Xbox One, from the sounds of it

Why can't devs release games when they are ready. What will happen when servers are offline for updates? Hopefully MS can keep them going for a long while and PC I guess...

So the game will literally launch with a lot of review issues fixed?

Wow. So we're going to be playing a better version than reviewers did.

Having reviewed it though. A patch still can't fix the open world designs and somewhat dated missions and frustration. Performance wise though, sounds good! Don't think it would effect my review of it but def good to hear them working to make it as smooth as possible.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say the publisher may have had something to do with this situation. It's rather bizarre that a patch was ready that quickly, so I would have to guess that some of these fixes were already in the works.

The review guide lines we received informed us of pending updates. Regardless, you review what was sent out and for the embargo date.
