Devil May Cry 4 Special Edition |OT| Two girls, one motivated Vergil

Doesn't look like April Fools news. Usually they're telling that in the end of each article, which is not the case here.

I really like Nero as a mechanical baseline for a character to be more fully developed in the future, but I definitely understand that a unique Buster animation for nearly every enemy probably makes him a tougher, more expensive character to develop than most DMC characters would be.

Annnnd it was an April Fools joke :(

Tried to warn ya, man. 8(

Last thing we want is to continuously "cry wolf" and basically make it so that a mod will eventually demand more extreme vetting of the sources for a DMC rumor thread to even stay up.

We should try to vet our own sources a bit better before posting up, I'd say.

Yah they wouldn't bring back Vergil without having a Nero tie in so I doubted that rumor already... But please spare us from all these fake DMC5 rumors I'm kind of sick of them...

The second it said "No Nero" I knew it was an April Fools. The development team is not getting rid of the character they themselves created, they aren't getting rid of a set of mechanics (Devil Bringer and Rev) that were very highly praised, and they aren't getting rid of Nero but bringing Vergil back since they went out of their way to confirm Nero is Vergil's son.

They have to pick one or two characters, more might be eventually playabe via DLC or an SE but it would be safest to expect one or two characters to be playable day 1. Especially if they follow their RE7 model of including the bare minimum in the base package.

It really depends on who their focus is on, if they want to focus on Dante or Dante/Vergil
then Nero will be dropped. He may be a part of the story but that's it.

If they're already going "What is the least amount we could ship with DMC 5" it's already doomed to be DMC 4.5 in terms of content. Which, while we got two characters, was half a game worth of levels, no costumes, no unlockable characters, and no Post Launch support. If Bloody Palace hadn't been a staple by that point, I doubt they would have shipped it with DMC 4 either.

Personally, I'd simply hate to lose the Buster and Rev mechanics. Find someway to transfer those to Dante/Vergil and I'd be happy to have Nero be a supporting non-playable character.

Bloody Palace was already post-launch DLC for DmC, albeit free. They got people to preorder and pay for Trish's costume which was already within the game files, which to me suggests they were experimenting with what they can get away with.

If Capcom is PR savvy they'll make anything that makes use of pre-existing assets free, while everything that's new content (costumes not found in the base game, weapons, new levels, bosses, etc.) is premium (season pass or single piece DLC).

Personally I think we should start raising a stink already now. I believe in pre-emptive measures. Tweet Itsuno, Kobayashi and the Capcom and DMC accounts, threads on Capcom-Unity, make a topic on GAF about it (we know Capcom reps browse the forum) regardless of whether we have official word about DMC5 or not.

I would actually like to see Nero return alongside Dante.

I liked that he offered an "easier" approach to combat that could still keep the flashiness while make it easier to do stylish combos without having to having to do 95 inputs in 3 seconds. Not that Dante isn't great mind you, but Nero presented a unique playstyle that was centered more around proper timing than anything else. Ideal situation would of course be that all 5 make it in (It would be DMC 5 after all), but I know how unlikely that is.

Plus the banter between Nero and Dante is really fun, Vergil is too stuck up.

My favourite scene is in the first level of DMC4, when Nero busts out his sword for the first time and revs it, then Dante does the same thing and pretends to rev his sword.

The announcement was quite frankly the most ill conceived announcement I've ever seen.

"Hey, here's a trailer with such massive changes to a beloved franchise that no one knew it was Devil May Cry until the end. We're going pretty much radio silent in terms of actual info for the next nine months. Bye"

The PR for the first year was the gift that just kept on giving. And the most frustrating thing is that it really didn't need to happen. With just a bit better handling it wouldn't have been such a shit show. But no, even four years later it's hard to have a calm conversation about the game.

It's amazing how much more down to earth and inviting the Dev diaries for Hellblade are vs. DmC.

The announcement was key because of the rumors about Ninja Theory making the next DMC. The concerns were there. Then the teaser came out, and the gifs showing Heavenly Sword's controls started feeling real and scary. Finally the condescendingly written interview with Tameem going "I don't care".

The whole thing was a cavalcade of errors.

I know this has become a speculator thread speculative speculations , but I want to mention virgil is the most fun i've had in a character action game in a hot minute

It's also a DMC4SE discussion thread when we want it to be. Unfortunately that isn't often and we're all to blame.

Vergil is pretty fun indeed. Although many were disappointed with the changes to his playstyle from DMC3SE, they really did a terrific job with making him feel fun. I think they managed to make a character that one ups Nero and DmC at making the player feel like they're a skilled badass regardless of their actual skill level.

He might be horribly broken and desperately in need of rebalancing in future games he'd hypothetically be planned for initial inclusion in, but I can't deny that Vergil can be really fun in SE. His Bloody Palace has been my go-to option for idle catharsis for two years now.

Going back to him after playing a bit of Nier Automata also really reinforces the need for series like DMC to exist - I don't think the former's combat is bad, but the degree of input automation and combo string rigidity present there tangibly prevents it from feeling as satisfying; while the systems look similar on the surface and appear to have a similar goal of providing fast, accessible action combat; the end result is incomparable.

For me NieR combat was a blast but not in a dmc kind of way. Whenever someone asks to describe the combat in NieR I just say it's just a super advanced form of kingdom hearts game play.

DMC4 vergil is like this perfect entry point character, he has stuff that makes him braindead easy, but if you want to go crazy you can infact go crazy.

He reinforces my desire to one day make a character action game, where the base character is devil trigger and the devil trigger esque mode in insane.

Yah but his cancels are pretty braindead, and he can whip through all bp and all difficulties pretty easily. Maybe if the game was balanced around his movement and damage (like NG2 was balanced around Ryu's speed but still dumb broken), I'd like it. Hell keep the same difficulty in bp and give us a GMD mode which is off the walls crazy. I was at least expecting that in DMC4:SE with DmC:DE getting it....
