Neo Geo games coming to Nintendo Switch

Played a bit of Alpha Mission 2 and Turf Masters so far. Any tips for AM2? Seems like turning Rapid Fire on affects firing special abilities? Ie holding down the fire button does a special ability; if rapid fire is turned on, I couldn't do that. That, or I'm misunderstanding the mechanics so far; only played a little bit. Really appreciate the amount of difficulty settings/modes on both games.

It depends on which control you select at the start of the game. If you're playing with the first control config (the one with shots and missiles mapped to the same button), then no. All of the special attacks for the armors that have them (so all of them except Side, Fire and Bubble) are activated by pressing the B button. No idea what it's mapped to on the Switch version.

If you're playing with the 2nd control config (the one where shot and missiles are separate buttons), then this would prevent you from using the charge attack of the Laser armor, as it is done by holding the shot button in that mode. Setting autofire on the missile button would also prevent one from using the special attacks of the Shield and Phoenix armors as they need to be charged.

Awesome, thanks for the info; much appreciated. Will keep this in mind next time I play.

Played a bit of Alpha Mission 2 yesterday. Good game, but it just makes me want to see last resort on the switch soon.
Hopefully they'll announce it at some point.

Why don't these games have the cover artwork in the icons? That's seriously the last thing keeping me from buying any of these games. You can't even discern metal slug 1 from 3 in the eshop thumbnails. It's there a legal reason or what?

I have been playing so much Shock Troopers. Beat it twice now.

Also picked up Turf Masters...because why not. An arcade golf game should be fun :)

I think I have most of the fighting games on different platforms, but I'd like Blue's Journey & Top Hunter on the Switch. Maybe something like Puzzle de Pon or Puzzle Bobble too.

I was letting that new Zelda patch download and heard a second download complete jingle. I ran over and saw the icon for less than a second but am almost positive it was Neo Turf Masters? Anyone else get an update or am I losing my marbles? Didn't notice any difference in the game. Really wish there was a completed download queue you could check.

For a second I thought this was Neo Drift Out: New Technology - Neo Geo's best game nobody ever talks about.

You should definitely check out Overtop. Weirdly extremely similar to Neo Drift Out despite being a different dev. I like both.

Question...why is SNK showing the Switch so much love? Not that I'm complaining–just genuinely curious. It seems kinda random?

Yeah, as someone who was supporting Hamster's PS4 efforts long before the Switch launched, I'd really like to know this as well. Sure would be nice if they remembered we still exist.

I think it's a great business opportunity for them given the lack of Switch games and no VC yet, it's easy money for the thirst, especially for $7.99 a pop.
Two player out of the box too. I've bought more of these than I would have because it's easy to pop the kickstand out and jump in to a game with someone since they're arcade games and they're meant for two players by design.

Lack of too much competition + a new fully engaged userbase looking for games to buy means that they're likely making more off of these releases than on a crowded PSN.

Because there's not a lot of competition on the system right now and they know that early adopters are mostly people who want to spend money on games for their shiny new device.

Honestly at $8 a pop I'm not impressed. Metal Slug Anthology came out on the PSP ages ago and had all the games for $20. You can still buy it for the Vita too. Rather than put that on the Switch and create an incredible value, they're doing each individual game at $8 which is absurd. Its all emulation too. They are just out to milk Switch owners from the look of it. World Heroes has done the compilation thing as has King of Fighters but if people buy those, you're just going to keep getting $8 emulation ports of single titles. I don't really feel up for supporting that.

I can see some of that being true, but don't people also argue that the larger userbase is where developers will spend their efforts.

I mean what percentage of the less than 2M Switch users are buying these versus the percentage of the 60+M PS4 users?

not that I mind, I don't have my PS4 anymore and I have a switch :)

Regarding the bolded, some audiences can be really concentrated on some platforms.
Rayman Legends and Sonic All Stars Racing Transformed sold more on WiiU than PS3 and 360 after all, despite the userbase difference.

I'm fairly certain the Metal Slug Anthology launched at $30. Still a good value though. I've played the PSP version many, many times.

Hamster is also releasing these titles for $8 a pop on PS4 and XB1, so it's not like they're only milking Switch owners.
