Could be - but as stated i think the next Mario Kart title will be a mobile game and that we wont get a new console MK title before 2019/2020 - so the same timeframe i would expect second gen. Switch hardware to be released.

Even though you're not necessarily wrong, the Mario Kart team is busy with ARMS right now (and probably DLC for that game down the road) so I wouldn't expect a new Mario Kart game anytime soon. Late 2019/early 2020 at the earliest.

ARMS and MK8 DX are EPD. The core Mario Kart team is SPD group 1. I could be mistaken, but I believe we don't currently know what they're working on.

I strongly suspect (and as I said earlier, even more strongly hope) that they will go all in on Nintendo characters, but they're not dropping the Mario Kart name. The brand is way too powerful and there's no reason to drop it anyway.

There have been solid Kart racers on Smartphones....MK is one of Nintendos biggest IPs - there will be a mobile adaptation at some point. I think MK will be part of the second batch of mobile titles next year after Animal Crossing has been released.

Nintendo is alot more picky about controls in their mobile games than most others, resulting in a very gimped Mario game.

I don't think they will even try to make MK work.

There is no way MK wont be on mobile...the question is when, not if.
Obv. it will be a somehow dumped down version of the full console experience - they still want people to upgrade to Switch/MK8D.

We already have motion controls in console MKs - easy to replicate on on mobile and the virual dpad controls worked even good on a game like the Angry Bird Racer. No issues here.

Sadly The Pokémon Company is really, really weird about this kind of shit. Sakurai has hinted that the behind the scene logistics of integrating Pokémon into Smash is a bit of an effort, Pokémon amiibo often aren't supported by games that support most other amiibo (or you have stuff like Pokémon skins in Mario Maker having no special sounds), and there's been no other cross-overs and far fewer cross-references with other Nintendo IPs than seen in other franchises. I'd be really surprised to see Pokémon pop up in Kart.

Why not Nintendo Racing? (or something like that). Diddy Kong Racing on N64 done a fantastic job on this front. Story mode with boss fight, multiple type of vehicle in one, stack power up and some minigames very well done.

In MK8 on Wii U the versus mode settings weren't adjusted for the extra DLC tracks; you couldn't configure it to queue all 48 tracks for example because the settings would only allow up to 32. Is that fixed in this entry?

SPD does not exist anymore. Mario Kart was always EAD too. MK never had anything to do with SPD which was solely for outside collabs and smaller quirky experiments (Brain Age). This is made by the Mario Kart people (which is also the ARMS team) under Yosuke Kabuki.

Mario Kart is one of the strongest brands in gaming. Everyone knows it. My mum knows it. There's no way it's getting dropped.

I hope they do continue to add new franchises to the game but the Mario Kart name isn't going anywhere.
