The First Trailer for The Mist TV Show Expands on Stephen King's Story

When most people think of Stephen King's The Mist, the first thing that comes to mind is the 2007 movie (and its incredibly messed-up ending). But if Spike TV has its way, that'll change in June, when The Mist TV show—which just dropped its first trailer—makes its debut.

What you immediately notice is that, unlike King's original short story or the movie, The Mist series isn't relegated to just one setting, which would have been impractical for what the network hopes will be an ongoing series. Instead, several different locations will provide the backdrop for an incident in which a mysterious, sinister mist takes over a quiet little town. Here's the trailer.

Sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeit.

He wasn't alone.
What is that over the horizon, Fog?

No idea this was coming. I really like the movie and am down for more. And knowing it inspired Half-life makes me enjoy it even more.

Didn't know this was a thing that was happening. Or maybe I forgot. Either way, there's a lot of material you could mine from this premise so I'm down.

Meh, hard to really get excited for something like this. First, it sorta looks like Under the Dome. Second, will it really tell a story or will it try to drag things out because its a TV show and they hope enough people watch that they can make a second season... then a third... then a fourth... etc? Which means nothing is ever conclusive and more questions is your only reward for "sticking" with it.

For these kind of ideas that really can't go on forever, it would be better if they called them mini series and hey, if its popular, just make it an anthology ala Fargo or American Horror Story or the OJ thing.

I don't know how the fuck this is going to work past 2 hours.

It's kind of a basic story.

I agree. Loved the short. Loved the audio drama. Loved the movie. A series is a stretch. Also, is it me or is there a lack of Chthulu in this trailer? Too much Lynch and not enough LoveCraft for my tastes.

Only way this could've worked is if they ditched the movie ending when the Army miraculously cleans things up, and kept the darker 'open world' ending of the original story. Would've been super down for that.

I loved the movie. This? I didn't know was actually a thing. And I feel like it was better that way.

The concept was cool. But it was the actors that made it something special. This cast for tv is a turn off. I can eat alphabet soup and shit out better names on a list then whoever's job it was to cast this show.

Try again Spike TV.

It's a world overrun by extra-dimensional monsters. I'm sure they'll figure something out.
People are still watching The Walking Dead.

What?

Is this just a one off season or expected to have multiple seasons? I could see them MAYBE making it work in an one off season but still kinda unnecessary

I want to be excited for this, but too many times has TV taken things that I like and run it into the ground.

A Song of Ice and Fire
The Walking Dead
Doctor Who

Are the two that most immediately come to mind.

I hope they do the creatures justice. While the movie didn't exactly have the highest budget in terms of CG effects, it got the job done with the flying creatures and acid web spraying spiders. That scene with the guy falling onto the floor and hundreds of baby spiders exploding out of his back is still pretty chilling.

You made visuals in my head.

Hmmm...none of the actors seem to have the sympathetic face that Thomas Jane has in the original film. Of course it's just a trailer but the impression it's given me is not that great.

Supersonic, idiotic, disconnecting, not respecting, who would really ever wanna go and top that
Might be a nice summer watch. As long as it doesn't take the mist like 3 episodes to finally hit the town. It would be cool if the upcoming King show 'Castle Rock' referenced what was going on in this town. Even a small nod would be nice.

BW Cut is incredible. Love this film. It's a shame the theater cut was lame.

The religious lady is my most hated fictional character of all time. She got more of a reaction out of me than anything in memory.

Yeah it would be pretty great if they even alluded to there being anything in the Mist at all except for one line at the very end of the trailer. I'm not super hopeful. I know that it's not "about" the creatures, it's about how the humans fare under the extreme conditions, but let's be honest with ourselves: it's about the creatures. We want to see the creatures. And this trailer have absolutely zero hints at any. Even the line "There's something in the mist" could mean the mist itself has something in it that changes people (as someone else suggested), not that it has like actual creatures crawling around in it. C'mon SpikeTV.

I'm more surprised that Spike TV still exists. I thought it had changed its name or something.

Anyway, I loved the movie, so I'm interested in seeing a show.

Why are strippers at the U.N. bad when they're great at strip clubs???

That's in 2018 - the channel with change it's name to the Paramount Network

Actually really liked the movie....has what's probably still my favorite ending to a movie ever so I'm 100% in on this.

Just hope it still has monsters and creatures...really hope they go that route along with The Arrowhead Project storyline instead of something paranormal.

The movie actually made me very interested in the world. The army dudes said they were doing some experiments at the base. That simple premise right there is enough to sustain a series of done right.

Didn't the mist itself only last a few days in the story?

In the book there was no end to the affected area or monster territory in sight. I don't remember if there was still mist. I want to say yes?

Now what's the next step in your master plan?
This show lives and dies on whether or not it can create a character as universally hateable as this fucking bitch:

If they can't do that its a failure from the start.

Hopefully it is not as awful as "The Dome" which had so many awful changes from the book it made the series unwatchable by the end of the first season.

Also, the Mist movie is an underrated classic. And to this day I perplexed by the amount of hate it gets because of the ending.
