ARMS Invitational featuring Dabuz, Abadango, and Momochi

Interested in this as a competitive game. Wish I understood how defense works better. Seems like the best defense is getting out of the way instead of blocking. Looks like it has some depth, but the games closest cousin in my eyes is actually the Naruto series of games and less street fighter.

More SF, and this game has big potential.

I'm getting some pretty strong Virtual On vibes from this game.

Gundam EXVS and Virtual On dictate that the best defense is evasion, pretty much.

Arms is definitely far from Naruto ninja storm series especially considering the latter lacks any depth and strategy.

You already have standard controls as a secondary option. Why are you upset?

Just to point it out, a majority of Splatoon 1 players used motion controls. Either way, you can opt to use traditional controls ARMS if you want, so I don't see the issue.

Not upset. As long as there are alternative controls, then I'm fine. And if, by some miracle, they work well, all the better. I've just thought that motion controls in the past has generally sucked.

At the risk of sounding arrogant, the people who won't buy the game simply because it uses motion controls are quite honestly, being babies. Not only do you have a conventional control scheme available as an option, but this isn't blind Wii-mote waggle controls either. ARMS uses very precise and very specific gestures for it's controls. It's fine to prefer more traditional controls, but to act like the default motion controls are somehow damaging the game is silly and ignorant.

Has anyone actually said they wouldn't buy it for this reason tho?

This type of arena fighter, which is super popular in Japan w/ Gundam EXVS, is all about movement. Blocking is more a last resort than primary defense.

Actually, the combat is pretty reminiscent of Storm 1, each arm being an assist, the cool downs resembling the return of each glove. It's not a poor comparison, but there's no KnJ or anything to really break things. Not having a way to escape hits is the major difference.

The glove match up seems like it's going to be the bulk of this game.

Yeah, this game looks really dope. I mentioned it in the Direct thread before saying that ARMS wasn't really shown in too favourable a light and this just proves it. The game looks like a lot of fast paced, intense fun. Can't wait to give this a try.

I wonder if Nintendo will support fightsticks.

Funnily, I started moving away from sticks and towards pad once SFV dropped because I realized that I was too lazy to carry one around.

That said, Gootecks has shown us that the hit box is the future Kappa

(actually, based on how it was explained to me, the hit box does sound good... I played like 10 hours of KOF yesterday and my thumb was killing me at some point)

I really want controller support because otherwise I can't do local multiplayer without a second pair of joycons and forget buying those for $70.

Honestly, I was sold on the game after it was first revealed. That said though, I will admit that they really did need to do something to this fashion to show people just how chaotic and challenging this game can get when you put it into the hands of the pros.

Hopefully this game will take off. I'd love to see more fighting games come out of Nintendo's neck of the woods (and it not be tied in with Namco. Nothing wrong with that of course considering that Smash 4 and Pokken are great, but you don't want people to think that they can't do any fighting games without Namco's help).

Not really, from what I'm seeing. There are no matchups between gloves aside from large gloves > small gloves with Master Mummy. The gloves provide specialized abilities

You don't need motion controls to cast that wider net. The people buying Switches aren't buying it cuz of motion controls. They already got people who don't play Zelda to play the new Zelda.
I think this way of thinking of really trying to put ARMS in a box is why SFV performed the way it did. Marketing this as something anyone can play without having to learn inputs, which is what will happen for the "button" configuration, is casting a wider net.

What does this have to do with not being able to play the game with both joy con attached to the Grip...

Lots of misunderstandings on both sides.

The original issue was what it would take to get a set up for 2 players locally.

Someone suggested a Pro Controller. He replied that it costs $70 (you get what you pay for tbh), and someone mentioned the Joy-Con grip, which wouldn't really help when it comes to equipping a second player.

I think he mistook the grip for the strap and assumed they were talking about split Joy-Cons, which gimps both players.

tl;dr Just buy a Pro Controller it's great.

You misunderstood. You CAN play with a single joycon. Doesn't mean you can't play with the grip+ 2 joycons connected.

I know that you can play with the grip. My point was you can play with a single joy-con but it's not gonna be the full experience, which means if you want to play split-screen with another person and get the full experience you need another pair of joy-cons or a pro controller.

Edit: Oh, i mistook the strap for grip. These names mixed me up.

Honestly the grip is fine. It's small but you can get used to it and play games at high level with it. The lack of a proper D-Pad doesn't even bother me. I kinda prefer the new D-Pad layout.

With all the limited Joycon colours Nintendo are releasing, somehow i dont think having multiple joy cons will be an issue for most.

It's funny when I think about the fact that ARMS being on a console/portable hybrid actually gives it an edge when it comes to local play.

We can't even be sure the next Gundam game will throw us a bone and give us LAN!

Me and my friends aren't playing Gundam because it takes too much effort to set up >_>

(looks like a really hype game though, for sure)

Laziness wins in the end!

Do the red lines represent invisible stage boundaries? Never played the Gundam Extreme series, but the levels always seemed bigger to me.

Thanks for bringing this up, I hadn't heard about it at all. Surprised Nintendo didn't publicize it more.

ya red lines are the boundaries of the stage. Also Gundam vs series is bloody amazing
Watching any footage of it just makes my blood boil... And as I said before Arms reminds
me of Gundam, well the movement does.

Depends on how the game controls. The way I currently see it the motion will be replaced with the analog sticks.

All I'm saying is that they should advertise that option. Also some people just refuse the idea of non-traditional controllers.

Depends on the stage, I think.

Gundam EXVS (and Full Boost) is still one of the best games I've imported. Super fun. Part of why I'm hyped to see similar-ish games (and that 2 on 2 mode)!

I really want fucking gold Zelda joy cons but I feel like I'll be waiting years.

Who knows

I'd bet that Nintendo are going to release a BotW GotY version with all the DLC included these holidays. Throwing in a set of custom joycons in a limited edition seems pretty likely.

Also Re Arms. Coming out after Mario Kart should be huge for it as most will probably buy a 2nd set of Joycons for 4player local co op in Mario Kart.

Do you just need one joycon to play Mario kart?

Hopefully it's as fun as Virtual ON. Really excited for ARMS. Also hope it doesn't die quickly like Pokken lol

The thing is I doubt Nintendo would put EPD Team 1 on this if they didn't intend to support it with big marketing and long term updates.

It's arguably their single most important internal team sales wise.
