The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild |OT3| Your Free Time is Badly Damaged

For a
wind cleaver
do I just have to hope a big yiga clan guy spawns and I kill him before he disappears? Or is there anywhere with a guaranteed drop? Need it for a side quest

Sure, although I've never seen one disappear? I just stasis them as soon as they pop and whack them to death, take their
bananas
.

Sure, I'm just curious which offers better protection - a lower level ancient armour with 'guardian bonus', or higher level normal gear. No point me pushing hard to get
6,000
rupees if it won't be as effective as my level 3 hylian gear.
I'm not sure, but it has an armor set bonus called ancient proficiency that let's you deal 80% more damage to guardians; so it's nice if you want to kill them, or are in an area with lots of them.

For example, Master Sword deals 30; but against guardians it glows and deals 60. With the upgraded ancient set, it deals 108 per hit. Makes fighting them trivial.

You can also get them in the
Yiga fortress, I got one killing one of the big guys there (don't use stealth)
; no easy feat, but works instead of waiting for one to appear.

Ugh this game ruined me. I wanted to go back to Horizon which I absolutely loved prior, but it all feels so clumsy and unfun.

I solved a cube puzzle off the east coast of Akkala for a korok seed, but I only found one set of blocks. I kept moving the magnetic block around until it clicked into place. Is there a sister shape nearby, or is this how the puzzle is meant to be solved?

Not come across that one. Maybe the goal was to make it symmetrical...

Oh man, just when I started feeling I've experienced mostly everything the game has to offer and that I should start letting the game go I rediscover that (Shrine in Hebra region spoiler)
stone gate I had found around 100 hours earlier and forgotten after not figuring out what to do. It took me while, I tried exploding it with bomb arrows and bombs, but then I started noticing the things around me. I saw the little pool of water first. In fact, it was that which had drawn me after seeing it on the map. Then I saw the snowballs higher up with this very vague, but still somewhat discernible slope across the water towards the gate. "They don't...no, that can't be it...can it?" So I threw one, it almost made it over the water I had used Cryonis on, but not really. Second one the same. "Nah, probably not, probably related to some Shrine Quest I haven't found yet...but there's still one snowball here so why not?" Then the cathartic moment as the snowball perfectly rolls across the water and steers perfectly down right into the middle of the gate, breaking it down revealing the Great Skeleton and Shrine within. So good.

Is this on a beach-y area or a cliff? Trying to picture it. The interactive map might be able to specify, though: http://www.zeldadungeon.net/breath-of-the-wild-interactive-map. I remember one near the Akkala F

where if I recall correctly we couldn't find the matching shape nearby at all.

(BTW, whilst in Akkala you may want to explore the eastern cliffs of Death Mountain and northbound of there, if you haven't. Some cool areas await!)

Aaaaaand beat it! 115h (according to my Switch profile), 39% completion... lol. I'm not sure exactly how that's counted though. Like, how does finishing a divine beast affect that number vs finding a Korok seed?

I did all the main story stuff, 90-ish shrines and 200+ Korok seeds (so obviously I have a TON of those left). I also have a big pile of half-finished sidequests.

Anyway... What a game! Probably my favorite game ever (except maybe for Rocket League - that game owns me). Even after over a hundred hours, it never got tedious. I could have kept going for another 50 (and I will be going back to finish stuff up). Simply being in this world, traversing and exploring it, is so enjoyable. It's simply incredible, the way Nintendo knocked this out of the park, after what 3D Zelda has been before this. It's not perfect - the massive scope, openness and amount of content have been achieved at the cost of some other aspects - but overall this is an absolute masterpiece. Now bring on the story DLC!

Oh, I also finished the T
arrey
T
own
quest today. I think it's fair to say the game has quite a lot of fetch quests (or at least fetch-esque quests), and you can certainly criticise the game for that. But it also has this quest; one of the most fulfilling and beautiful quests I think I've ever played.

I think I did the right thing in doing this one slowly, a little bit at a time over a very long period of time whenever stumbling into the right person (instead of actively trying to find them). It's not like it's the most challenging or stimulating quest to actually do, it's more about how it's stuck with me for a long time and it's such a lovely thing to check in now and then and see how it's evolved since the last time. The music is beautiful, I love the evolution and how it incorporates all the different town music. At the end you feel like all the music was always meant to fit together like that, it shouldn't work that well but it does. I presume some may find the Goron-style trombone ruining it, but I think it adds this really charming goofiness that kinda accentuates the whole town and its residents. It's not all sunshine and rainbows. Hudson is lovable, but he's also kind of a dick. Then there's that kid being all rude to you, which she probably got from her also quite uptight dad. The wedding is great, but it's also incredibly unromantic and awkward in a funny way, lol.

However, I think the best thing is how it more than anything else in the game brings home the idea of Hyrule being rebuilt after the Calamity. And it's done so by bringing together all the different races to make this nice place full of diversity. It's a powerful, yet never really stated message, and it's great.

Bit of an odd request, and a slightly lazy one, but worth a shot. If it's not easy for someone to do I'll do the hunting myself.

Does anyone have a few links showing the 'progression' of speedruns in this game? Eg one a few days after launch that took 3 hours, then one that got it down to 2 hours, then 90 mins, to the current WR etc?

Just finished the game and want to watch some speedruns but I want to see the evolution of people figuring out tricks :)

One nice touch is how at the end of that quest,
Hudson straight up tells you to stop screwing around and go back to doing what you're supposed to do. I might be super slow about this, but that's when the name Tarrey Town really struck home for me.

It's called Tarrey Town because you tarried from your main quest to build it. Everyone you gathered to build it also tarried from doing what they really wanted to do until you pointed them in the right direction.

The percentage does'nt track completion of the game. If you do 30 side quests or none, don't get the master sword or don't fill the encyclopedia, the percentage doesn't change, because the game only track fulfilment of the map.

In other words, every time you reach a named location that isn't part of the default map, a shrine icon is added, a korok seed is added your percentage increases. The Divine beast increases the percentage but not because you completed it but because it is also a new location/warp point added to the map when you complete it.

Yup, that stuck with me too.
Hadn't really reflected over the name (English isn't my first language, so didn't know what "tarry" meant before I looked it up) until he said that. I also appreciate when the dialogue isn't all "oh, thank you thank you, come back any time! <3", and instead dares to be a little bit blunt and harsh towards you, like "dude, we appreciate the help, but it's probably time for you to go and do something else now". It adds a little bit more character.

In terms of Zelda games I think this is the best one since maybe Wind Waker when it comes to characters and overall writing. Main story stuff ranges from mediocre to ok, but all the different side characters and their dialogue is so sharp and often funny. In particular I love all the various Y
iga
C
lan
exchanges, and their pretty hilarious fetish for bananas. There's this deliciously twisted feel to all of it, which for me has always been a bit of a hallmark of the series (think stuff like Beedle dropping you off his flying shop if you don't buy something in SS, or Ingo locking you inside the ranch in OoT).

It was around some rocks in shallow water off the northeast coast (south of the northeast "island").

I'm afraid to check the map, because I don't want to see the locations of items I haven't found yet.

I guess now I know there might be a
fairy fountain
nearby, so I guess that's my next objective.

I skipped most of death mountain since I'm at 3 hearts and have no flame retardant clothing. Did one shrine, hit the tower, and hightailed it out of there. Lost dozens of food items staying alive (plus all the equipment I picked up in korok forest, stupid me).
I've come across some where the sister shape is hidden e.g. under the water.
Man, I looked all over. Maybe I missed it, but I searched for like fifteen minutes. It was foggy much of the time and I couldn't see through the water very well.

Hah oh man. I thought I had found all the
Great Fairies
, but I was mistaken to count the
Horse God
as one of the four. This is after I long ago beat Ganon and found all the shrines. It was ... interesting what the 4th upgrade animation looked like and suggested. Those
Fairies
must of been trapped in there a long time huh.

This is the reason why I'm going to wait a while before playing Horizon and Automata. I want to give them a fair shake and be able to appreciate them w/o comparing them to Zelda.

It's like when I played Chrono Trigger before FFVI years ago. After Chrono Trigger, FFVI felt like a step back. I had to force myself to finish it.

Somewhere around 160 hours in. Unlocked three more parts of the map over the last two days. Not ready for the game to end, but it's time to explore a bit more territory.

Just got myself a wild black stallion. Taking it back to a stable to claim it for my own.

Also stumbled across Iwata's mountain for the first time last night. Stayed for a bit and payed my respects.

Edit: I do believe this is the longest I have ever played a single player RPG, including Fallout 3.

I just played Tag and Hide and Seek with a little girl NPC.
That was adorable, except for the Hide and Seek part, I could never find her before she went home for dinner

80'shrines, 82 korok seeds seems a low ratio. Been trying to keep an eye out for odd things too, although not out and out searching for seeds.

Any tips on farming hightail lizards? Need 9 for..things and other than wandering around in circles in the places the compendium lists, are there better ways? Anywhere that sells them?

Put on your full sheikah armor.

Place hightail lizard on shiekah sensor.

Go to the field area between hateno fort and twin peak stable.

There are tons of hightail lizards and hot footed frogs there.

You can also down a speed boost elixir to walk faster.

But do not run!

Two? I've only found one in the clothes shop. Where's the other one? (Within spoiler tags if needed.)

So there's a place in Gerudo city where
there are some women talking, and every time you talk to them they tell you to buzz off and stop listening.

If you go to the room NEXT to them you get a "listen" prompt next to the window.

You'll overhear the password to get into the Gerudo Secret Club, which is behind a nondescript door on the other side of town. That shop sells male desert armor.

just got 3 chests with Star Fragments

locations

Chest is in the water near the docks near the Shrine located inside Hyrule Castle

Feed a dog at Snowfield Stable, there are 3 dogs so one of them will give you that chest
do it at noon because if it is too cold or snowing the meat will freeze before the dog eats it. It takes 3-4 meets to get these dogs to move

A star fragment chest in Thyphlo Ruins the shrouded forest, pitch dark but just south of shrine up on a platform.

Savage Lynel drops them.

I didn't want to enter this thread or any other Zelda thread until I had finished the game. I just beat it now. This game wildly surpassed my expectations. From the starting title screen, just "Nintendo Presents" in small white text (reminiscent of Link to the Past), I knew there was something special about the game. The amount of freedom given is truly staggering and I look forward to reading the "I didn't know you could do ____" thread soon. There's so much to discover and it gives the player such a sense of reward for doing so. I grew up with 2D Zelda and have never been keen on the 3D entries (I like them, just kind of think the series lost it's way after Link's Awakening). I haven't done this much exploring in a 3D Zelda game. I'm not sure why that is, perhaps it could be a placebo effect. But I think it's because you are given all the necessary tools at the start of the game and you are free to do whatever you want. You aren't on a linear path and forced to backtrack. Also since the game is challenging for the first time in a long time, there's actual incentive for the player to go seek things out for upgrades.

There are some problems with the game obviously. Which is not a bad thing, it gives Nintendo somewhere to go for the next title. If BotW is supposed to be wiping the slate clean and be a new start for the series, just think of the leap from Zelda 1 to Zelda 3. Zelda set the formula, and then LttP knocked it out of the park. I truly believe the next Zelda will be the greatest game for the franchise.

Spoiler/question regarding memories with some insight.

The first memory I found was in the desert by the Oasis. That was the first time I heard the classic Zelda theme in the game. Is it specifically tied to that memory,
or will it play over whichever memory you find first? I found it to be incredibly fitting and the lack of traditional Zelda music makes sense. Link has lost his memory and is trying to regain it, so when that minimalist piano plays a short bit of the theme, it's like he's slowly remembering his past life/lives. At first I was disappointed with the music as it has always been the high point of the series. I got that the game is supposed to be minimalistic and as such, the music is meant to reflect this. But as the game progresses and you start to hear the original theme more and more, it really came together and worked well thematically.

Anyway, that's my take on the game. It was wonderful, completely worth the money I spent on it and the Switch, and I'll be jumping back in sometime soon.

Everyone seems to have their "thing" when playing this game: from effortlessly killing Lynels, to figuring out how to fly, to moving NPCs around the map. Mine is getting horses to places they were supposedly blocked from going. Today I rode my pink and white horse Pinky Pie up to the top of Mt. Lanayru.

Moving NPCs?

how did you get a pink horse?

Finally beat it! 120 shrines, 228 korok seeds, all memories, all side/shrine quests, all armor sets, 41.93% map completion, 107:45 hours. What a journey!

Moving NPCs?

how did you get a pink horse?

Look up the Kass meets Kass video if you're curious.

Yeah, at the Dueling Peaks Stable there was a pink and white horse with a blond mane and tail I'd never seen before and I knew I wanted one. As luck would have it, a wild one was out on the plain nearby. I gave it the floral style and made it my travel pony. I wish you could register more than five. With only five slots and 3 unique horses (if you count Epona) there isn't much room for adding other horses you like. It would also be nice if you could check the stats of any horse as soon as you reach the stable. I'd like to know that before I decide to let a horse I already have go to make room for a new one. Anyway, I'd post a picture from the top of the mountain with the horse but alas, the Switch does not talk to my choice of image sites.

By the time I got to the (Shrine Quest spoiler)
Trial of Thunder
, I had already received the (Gerudo spoiler)
lightning-proof helmet.
I unequipped it, seeing as it would have made things a little too easy :p

Fun shrine quest, though!

About 70-ish shrines done so far, 215 korok seeds, one region left to discover (Hebra) and one divine beast left to go. Reaaaalllly drawing it out.

I'm 100 hours in with 160 korok seeds,
the master sword
, all memories, and three of the divine beasts done. I finished up all the shrines earlier today
and got the breath of the wild armor set
. Now all I have left to do is the divine beast in death mountain and then I can go take on ganon. No way I'm going after 900 korok seeds.

I feel the end coming, but I don't want it to come. I still want to play this some more!

Right, so I have a busy work schedule and dropped this game about 3 weeks after launch. I'd cleared 2/4 divine beasts, I loved the game, just didn't have enough time.

Finally picked it up now I have some vacation, and oh. My. God. This game is amazing. Just beautifully produced. I love it so much. Currently sneaking through the
Yiga hideout
, after spending goodness knows how much time exploring Lanaryu Mountain.

I see. Most of my remaining 60% is probably Korok seeds then. Bit misguiding that sidequests and such aren't counted. Also means there's no way of knowing if you've done everything? You could get to 100% while actually having stuff left to do?
