That Idle Thumbs Bombcast was really good. Like others said, the IT guys are much better at explaining why a thing is good than the GB guys are.

Yeah, it feels like GB & IT are a great juxtapose podcast experience.

Thumbs have some of the best critical gaming analysis in the field and Beast/Bombcast brings the lighter, humorous industry hot takes. Of course both cross over into each other's territory regularly, but they generally stand tall on their strengths.

Couldn't do without my weekly dose of of all 3 podcasts. I find it a great balance of perspectives.

The lack of Persona 5 content is alarming.

I imagine Vinny dropped ME:A for persona. Hopefully he can manage to put time into it come GOTY.

Cuz it is GOTY.
Maybe Jeff didn't like the homage.

Honestly, I think I prefer Important If True to Thumbs now just because it's Robot News: The Podcast and that's hilarious

I found those guys' presence on the Bombcast to be very refreshing. They're just so much better at articulating what they like about a game beyond "It's fuckin' goooood" (ahem, Jason).

Chris Remo is fantastic. I only knew him thanks to the Double Fine documentaries but I should get into Idle Thumbs.

"Jiff" excluded.

EDIT: I like Jason but he isn't good at expressing himself. Which is kinda important on a podcast.

Idle Thumbs (The Early Years) were amazing. They did about 65 episodes before taking their first break, but they're a consistent podcast now.

You should really go listen to all of them, haha.

Man, just finished Furious 7, what a ride watching the whole series of movies like this. And the ending of 7, got a bit choked up.

The best part of all the Film & 40s is Vinnys reaction to the big dude in Furious 6, we got a Cave Troll. Every time there were some big dude on screen Vinny goes off.

Yeah. they really are, although the tradeoff is they're game devs busy with their own stuff so there's weeks where they barely play anything new and it's a lot of going back to the well on stuff, mobile apps Chris played for 10 minutes, and assumptions on what some new hot game might be like based on what they heard on twitter.

But when they actually get into something it's really good.

Also, to be fair, Jason is kinda like Drew IMO in that he's mostly there in a support function, and he'll get better at being on camera the more he does it.

I'll need to listen to their explanation of why they liked Zelda so much because I sure as shit did not. Did over half the shrines and some other stuff before I was ready for it to just end, and didn't come back after beating it. It'll be my favorite Zelda that I'll never replay.

I like the idle thumbs guys but I dropped the podcast shortly before the awesome Danielle rhymes with Nintendo showed up.

I liked the discussion but it was always like whatever recent mobile game or whatever twine game and then an hour and a half breakdown of why it was so good, when it was some game I'll never play.

Super interesting conversation but the original topic wasn't for me on a lot of it.

Fun when they're around though

You get a cool reward but it's not too big a deal

Reward Spoiler:
You get the Wild set, which is the classic green tunic/hat look

Ah, ok I'll want to get that eventually but I think I'm good to go ahead and beat the game. Besides, I have
the 8-bit Link amiibo and have already gotten all the pieces of the '___ of the Hero' set,
which is basically the same thing.

I stuck with Idle Thumbs for a bit but fell off a few years (2013-2014 I think?) ago after getting a vibe of it being sort of contrarian for the sake of it and a bit pretentious (at least around the time I stopped). I wasn't 100% sold listening to them on the bombcast but the mario lore stuff made me think to check back in and see if I feel differently.

Maybe Vinny was into, or thinking of getting into, body building at some point? He does seem to get really excited by the meatiness of the big guys' arms and legs.

I was excited to get it until I went to a great fairy and saw they wanted me to farm for dragon parts, again.

I didn't bother upgrading armor until pretty late in the game, and I didn't want to farm for mats at that point, so I went into the end with just 2 star armor

Always interesting to see the variety of perspectives here. This week's Bombcast was the first one I've skipped in a LONG while. Tried to get into Idle Thumbs and it just didn't take. That plus no Jeff this week means I wasn't feeling it.

I enjoyed the bombcast, it was good. I have never listened to Idle Thumbs so I wasn't sure what to expect but I definitely thought it was a good bombcast.

Could be. Vinny "Meat slab" Caravella.

I think you might be on to something, I get the same way he gets when The Rock is on screen and I'm into body building. I blame growing up watching action movies with Arnold, Sly and the gang in them.

Yeah, I had it on at work when they were doing it live and turned it off after about 30 minutes or so. It's funny, I love all of those guys but I found this episode to be pretty boring, also I can't be the only one that is sick of Zelda talk right? It's a great game but almost two months straight of hearing talk about Zelda has really soured me on wanting to hear any discussions about Zelda :p

The lack of Persona 5 content is alarming.

Yeah this is probably the most surprising thing for me. I was expecting a ton of discussion on Persona 5 from Jeff, Vinny, Alex and Dan. I know they were all pretty excited about playing it before it came out. Maybe its because the game starts off so slow and it didn't really "feel like Persona" to me until about 12 hours in or so? I'm hoping they stick with it and fall in love with it after putting in a ton of time so we get more discussion in a few weeks.

edit: I will say I really enjoyed hearing Alex talk about it on last week's beastcast. I think he put about 10 hours in and a lot of his thoughts were putting much inline with my own

That chugging when the screen scrolls in Cosmic Star is really bumming me out, unless that's some problem with the video / my PC.

They're good at articulating their thoughts on the nitty gritty aspects of game design, but that doesn't mean I find them entertaining to listen to.

Anyone watching Waypoint's Zelda permadeath streams? Probably my favorite Waypoint thing since that first marathon.

I have been and I agree. It has been very enjoyable, definitely their best stuff since the 72 hour stream!

Oh, that sounds cool. Are they on Youtube or Twitch?

Yea it is on their youtube, here is a link to the first video:

Speaking of BotW, we need more Bradth of the Wild!

Yeah, I've been watching this long-form content while I'm on the treadmill.

Great way to pass the time and an excellent series thus far.

Higlights include Rob Zacny guest spot. He's never played a Zelda game before. :p

Don't get your hopes up too much. The only people actively playing the game are Vinny and Alex (and Alex is technically just watching it) and we'll see if they stick with it. Jeff and Dan will probably never play it at this rate. Backalar might give it a shot.

Dan was never going to play it. It's a turn based JRPG.

Jeff probably doesn't have time to play any Persona game without Chie in it.
