Mario Kart 8 Deluxe review thread

I know people don't like the baby characters because they're a weak way to expand the character list, but... I'll probably continue to play as baby Rosalina. It's been too long since I played MK8 on Wii-U, so I don't remember the stat that the baby characters had a benefit in. All I remember is that it suited my playstyle.

Offline MP I usually use DK with a small roller and small tires (stats dont matter) just because it looks ridiculous...

An entire country along with some places here in the West disagree with you :)

I'll still play my boy Luigi tho

Shol'va! (Traitor). How could you betray us like that!

Just kidding! I probably would play Inking for few weeks then go back to my Captain Falcon Mii and Blue Falcon.

The terror empire of the inklings has taken over a country?

I weep for future generations.

Splatoon is some legit shit is tracking ahead of DQ in Japan currently preorder wise in certain chance and has a very small chance of outselling both versions at launch. Squids have taken over Japan, it's a code red crisis.

with the sea levels rising and ice caps melting and whatnot the squid takeover is inevitable anyway. future generations won't exist. best to accept your squid overlords now, maybe they'll spare you.

If I were you I'd stick physical. 4-5 years down the line you'd probably be able to resell the game for around £25, the convenience doesn't really counteract that. It's literally the only main advantage of Nintendo games always staying high in price so you might as well make use of it even if you have no current plans to

Well that is one of the big advantages of physical but in my roughly 25 years of gaming I have sold 0 games. I just don't have that kind of mindset I suppose and also why I am currently sitting across from all my old consoles + games I have set up recently. Aaaaand I've just had the idea of re playing Mario 64 this autumn ready for Odyssey

I apologize in advance because i fear this has been asked and already confirmed by reviewers but i havent seen it...

There isnt any voice chat with MK8D is there? I'm guessing that 'might' come with the paid app?

Online is currently the same as Wii U.

The mobile app might change things.

Edit: actually the Wii U version had mics in lobby

Honestly I'm the same had almost all my consoles and games and had never sold one but had decided to some my 3DS games last and was surprised by how much I got for them. Frankly it's highly unlikely you'll end up replaying the vast majority of the games you've bought (I know I don't definitely don't have the time). You'll get bored and sick of them eventually. Not all but some. Selling them means you don't have to spend more money to get new ones while the rest aren't used allowing you to spend that money to do other things. I mean digital is even worse in this regard as you have no collection for you to show off and you don't really own the game it just has some quick convenience.

For me:

SMK: Koopa or Donkey Kong Jr
64 + SC: Donkey Kong
DD: Diddy Kong + Koopa in Barrel Train
DS: Donkey Kong in standard kart
Wii: Koopa on Bullet Bike
7: Donkey Kong or Koopa in Train
8: Donkey Kong or Koopa on Hyrule Bike with standard wheels

Really love how the bikes handle in Wii and especially 8, ended up being a series addition I greatly enjoyed. Probably best they removed the wheelies for balance purposes though, heh.

Not sure if this is possible but does anyone know where I could buy just the case for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. I want to buy the game digitally but I also want the physical case because I like to have the physical cases for games lol. I haven't done it before but decided might as well start now for titles I want to have always on my system (MK8D, Smash etc).

Any suggestions at all, I've seen PS4 replacement cases and replacement cases for other consoles but nothing Switch related so far.

Italian embargo just lifted
Don't ask me why the delay
My review: 9/10
Hard to not suggest it to any Switch owner
Even if they already played it on Wiiu
The hybrid nature of the console is a game changer for this kind of product

Nintendo certainly do have strange embargos... I remember I wasn't allowed to reveal Rosalina in 3D World even after she was in a Nintendo Direct.

If you're interested in playing online with NintenDaan, GameXplain, Direct Feed Games and a few others later then add me on Twitter @NomComms! We'd love to have you with us!

Your best bet would be looking on Ebay after the game has been out for a bit. People sometimes sell cases separately just for the heck of it.

Are there any actual rewarding aspects to Deluxe's single-player? It's not needed for coins and now you don't even get Miiverse stamps. :\

Not really, no. The only game that has had rewarding SP is DS though, so it's pretty par for the course.

It's a shame because they could have done a bit more with a tiny amount of effort. Smash style achievements to unlock parts instead of coins would be better.

Currently I have no incentive of trying different characters or parts. Or even completing the tracks. Makes it boring unless you have friends.

So, err...

You can't use the joycon grip in multiplayer? That's utterly ridiculous if so =/

EDIT: To clarify; after reading replies here and looking into it further, it looks like this is only for local wireless play. I err jumped the gun a bit there :'D

I read that was just for table top mode.

I have read that you can't use 4 separate joycons in portable mode
Unfortunately I can't test it in anyour way
Maybe I misread and it was the same thing reported here
A clarification would be neat

Ah yeah my bad, just read this from Polygon:

"But the weird thing is that, in two-player splitscreen Wireless Play mode, the controller options become more limited. The option for each player to use a full pair of Joy-Con controllers is grayed out; the only controllers available are a single Joy-Con per player or two Pro Controllers."

Annoying, but as pointed out by some it's likely a limitation of the Switch's wireless. I'm not 100% sure, but I'm getting the impression it's the case in local wireless whether the system is docked or not.

Wait so playing local split screen, I can't do one grip + one Pro? That's annoying. One player is gimped.

Nope, you either have a single joycon or a pro. How is the joycon player gimped by the way? Just your personal opinion of the joycon not being a good controller or something more?
