Okay, that sounded wrong. I love smooth, jazzy shit, but not that early De La kind, know what I mean?

EDIT: Not saying I hate it. It's lighthearted fun, but I just don't like it as much as the 90's sound.

Love Tribe post-Midnight Marauders and De La post-Buhloone Mindstate the most. Pharcyde's Labcabincalifornia is one of my faves (never heard the first album, though). The Diggable Planets album that Andrew once recced was nice too. The rest I don't really know.

Yeah the way they handled samples early on was really choppy and basic, I get it.

Definitely my second favorite album last year.

What was your favorite?

I can't even get full listens in on this thing because I keep going back to the beginning to hear the first tracks again. That Part, Ride Out (daaaamn), Dope Dealer... Every track just clicks for me.

Also not important but I love the album cover, can't stop looking at it. Think I'm going be stuck on this record for a while

Thugga actually been falling off for me

his best output was still Slime Season 1-3 and shit like Donald Glover

Jeffrey was his most palatable project for the mainstream and only tracks I go back to are Guwop, Harambe, and Floyd Mayweather

Don't count Pick up the phone since that's a dual release by him and Trab

Feel It was dope though

No Webbie, Wyclef Jean, or Kanye West?

I've listened to Slime Season 3 more than any other album/tape in the last 6 months (didn't start listening to him until then.)

Can't get into anything before SS3 to much; tried with Barter 6, and SS1-2 but just don't like them too much.

Jeffrey is dope but not as good as SS3; I like songs most people aren't that into (Swizz Beats, RiRi)

They're good songs don't get me wrong

But I rarely go back to them when I want something to listen to

The album as a whole seemed very subdued for Thug, most of the tracks are downtempo and if I'm gonna try to decipher thug's lyrics I'd rather it not be to a slower more reserved version of him

Barter 6 was most palatable mainstream project...No way I'd have Jeffery in my top five from last year that's crazy to me.

Really first time I heard Barter 6 I had no idea what the fuck was going on

Maybe that's because it was before he grew in popularity though

Speaking as someone who has Barter 6 in their workout playlist and has been subjected to it quite a bit, the songs don't have the consistency to be called anything close to a classic.

By the end of Groovy Tony/Eddie Kane I'm too hyped and I have to run out on the street butt naked.

Barter 6 and SS3 are the best, but you could make one hell of a tape with half of SS1 and SS2, since those two pretty much just consisted of the tracks from the big leak before Barter 6, but without much curation, which wouldn't have hurt.

You know, I really think people will only truly understand Thugga's impact in the next decade. Speaking of which, I really wonder what Hip-Hop will sound like in 10 years. You never know what to expect next. Hip-Hop basically is the Final Fantasy of music genres.

So what you're saying it's going to become aggressively mediocre and be full of pretty boys in 10 years time.

Groovy Tony/Eddie Kane is one of my favorite songs last year but I don't think any song off Blank Face is better than Alchemist Hoover Street or Prescription/Oxymoron. Oxymoron era Q has his highest highs.

Man Of The Year/Break The Bank/Blind Threats/Prescription/OG Hoover Street/Yay Yay/What They Want/Banger.

album was a bit of a mess though.

I feel like after Oxymoron we could've got two Qs: Hoover Street Q or Hell of a Night Q. I was nervous about what his next project would be like, but I was so happy we got the former on Blank Face. I think all he needs is someone to give him a harsher edit and sequence his songs better and he can put out a real classic.

I just heard the hot new album Control System by Herbert Anthony Stevens IV, I'm sure this talented young man is going to continue to release quality raps for the children.
