Mario Kart 8 Deluxe review thread

I think I asked in the wrong thread but in the UK where is the best place to buy a digital code for this game?

I've only seen Amazon listing digital codes for sale. Nothing from official Nintendo store, Game UK or CD Keys.

I think linking to them is banned here, but ShopTo are also selling the digital version.

Is there any word on how many totally new parts there are? I havent been watching many videos to avoid seeing all the new parts, but I did see the Clown Car and Inkling vehicle (fuckin rad).

I also saw that the Koopalings keep their Smash colors for their Clown Cars, which is amazing.

All I know of is the Clown Car and the two Inkling vehicles (Splat Buggy and Inkstriker).

There are 2 Splatoon-themed vehicles, so three new vehicles total.

Also, there are a lot of changes to stats of existing parts. For example, gliders can now change speed and traction.

Oh so I guess I've only seen the one Inkling Kart then. Neat!

But I'm actually gonna be just a touch disappointed if there aren't any new tires or gliders. I'm in LOVE with making different kart combinations.

Ahhh dang I was hoping for maybe just a couple more karts, but it's cool since the Clown Car is amazing.

I've heard a little about the stats thing. The news about gliders is great. Are the gliders all different or is it still a "Type A or Type B" situation?

This is just gonna make putting together good looking, viable karts even more fun!

I was thinking, with the dual joycon setup of the Switch, Nintendo should have brought back the co-op aspect of MKDD. It makes perfect sense.

Maybe next time...

I am sorry if the question has been answered before, but how many Pro controller can be connected to one switch at the same time for some split screen action?

So I'm sorry if this has already been answered, but...

Is it possible to have, say, a docked Switch w/ four player split screen on a big TV playing multiplayer with others joining the match who are in handheld mode?

I'm throwing an MK8 party this weekend, and I'm just trying to figure out the logistics of getting 8 simultaneous players.

I don't see why not. Isn't there a "Local Multiplayer" setting that looks for nearby Switches?

That would have been great. I really miss the dual character system from Double Dash.

No. You can have 4 players on a Switch if you are playing with just that Switch, when online or connected to the other Switches, you can only have 2 players for console.

Saw a few people doing this so:

Mario Kart 64: Toad
Super Circuit: Toad
Double Dash: Bowser Jr./Waluigi
Wii: Toad/Rosalina
8: Rosalina
8DX: Toad/Rosalina/Inkling Girl

Didn't play 7 and if I played SMK, it'd probably be Toad again.

Working out in Nebraska...in a small town (Lexington), stop in Wal-Mart to grab a couple of things, and they have copies already out to be sold LOL. I was like WTF....

This limitation still makes no sense to me. Is it 100% confirmed?

There was a Polygon article talking about how it actually restricts two pairs of Joycons as a splitscreen setup for local wireless (ie. You can only use single Joycons or Pro Controllers), so it must be an "amount of connections" thing. Makes minor sense even if it sucks, 7 connections to other Switches plus 4 controller connections might be kind of crazy?

Just pulling this out of my butt, but it could have to do with stressing the CPU. It can't crunch 4 simultaneous players PLUS the others on LAN.

I doubt this is an issue as you can still have 16 players online with 2 players on a single console. I think it's more likely due to the amount of wireless signals being sent everywhere as Stopdoor theorized above.

Whatever the cause is I'm really hoping this is something that can be added later with enough work. 4 vs 4 on two TVs next to each other is just too much fun.

Why did they ever change him from a slightly arrogant happy-go-lucky dude to whatever the current Toad is?
My Guess? Toadette.
In many voice clips, Toadette sounds way too similar to Toad's old voice.
They probably wanted to differentiate both characters and since they changed his voice the same gen Toadette was introduced, it makes it even more obvious

It makes perfect sense to essentially re-engineer the gameplay and re-animate every Kart and character....in a GOTY edition?

To be fair, seems like the GOTY edition is going to be THE Mario Kart for Switch.

I don't mind that at all, but who you quoted could be just suggesting that Nintendo made a MK9 with the Double Dash mechanic instead of MK8D.

It is an interesting enough idea for Mario Kart Switch 2 (if it hasn't fully transitioned to game as a service by then).

I haven't played Mario Kart 8 before. This will be my first time experiencing this game on Friday. I'm stoked.

Doesn't Bomberman allow 4 players with multiple Switches or online?

I'd assume it has to do with the framerate.

Hail, peons, for I have come as ambassador from the great and bountiful Blueberry Butt Explosion
People who skipped the Wii U version are in the best position. The game has insane amounts of content for new players. Can't wait!

PC games are also designed to run on hardware with variable performance specs. MK8's netcode is fixed around a maximum of 2 players per console and 60fps. That wouldn't suddenly change for LAN play.

Right, but the point is it can be engineered. What about PS4 players playing with PS4 Pro owners that have better (or sometimes worse lol) framerates?
