What can they even do with Grand Theft Auto now?

female protag, first person, future, in space, instead of picking up weapons you get permanent upgrades throughout the game

call it... i dunno... Grand Theft Prime

I think next GTA in London would be cool.
But the city doesn't allow for exactly wide variety of gameplay (plus narrow streets!)

I'd also be interested in a Sao Paulo GTA or something. That could be really different and cool.

From the major developed city itself, to favelas, beaches and rainforest wilderness, that could spark enough interest I think.
Also Brazil is very multicultural so the opportunity for interesting protags across males and females is there.

Vice City with multiple eras. 80's + Modern. 5 protagonists(1 carry through to the modern era). Smaller map than V, but very different, with the era switch. Multiple radios, side missions, ect.

That's what I'm expecting. Unprecedented.

It does make me wonder if they'll even be a GTA6 in the style of the other games where everything is new or if they'll actually expand GTA5 to add a new city while keeping the original GTA5 areas. Sell it as an add-on to those that have GTA5 or the whole packaged bundle as one. Maybe the overall name is changed as a result. That would certainly cut down on the need to completely redo all the assets. I would imagine the profit margin would be a lot higher this way. They could in theory get more releases out sooner. They already have GTAO in a service model. They could double use any new single player areas for GTAO as well and continue that service.

There is a lot invested in GTAO. Do they restart on that front or just keep adding to it. That's what makes me wonder if they'll just expand GTA5 instead of starting over like the past games.

I would really like a rags to riches story again with some character/s who has drive and ambition, like in Vice City or San Andreas.

In GTA IV and to some extent V the motivation
to do some things or to do the crimes was a bit unfocused, I think it would work better if the main character is self centered assshole who just wants power/money. It worked so well with Tommy Vercetti.

In addition to three protagonists, I vote for three separate time periods. 80's Vice City, 90's Vice City, modern Vice City? How about three separate cities?

Also, introducing a more seamless, swift and non-impeding menu UI would be great. GTA Online would benefit greatly from it.

Battlefield 1 has an amazing foundation on speedy online UI's. Both in start up menu and in-game menu.

a woman protagonist, and maybe, maybe, stop being so juvenile with the humor. Trevor was really off putting that I couldn't even finish the game.

I don't need serious story, but it almost feels like the main characters assume I'm a 15 year old teenage kid with their humor and stuff. I'm just over that type of humor. Shame to, as the gameplay was really fun, but I couldn't get through those annoying characters, mainly Trevor. I might be too much in the minority for a change though, so honestly, I'm not really all that interested in the next gta.

Seriously, why not Canada?

We literally have an area called GTA. Which was run by a Mayor on crack. It writes itself at this point.

Get to it Rockstar.

Being able to jump across small gaps & grabbing slightly elevated ledges instead of hitting them & ragdolling to your death would be a nice start.

take it outside the US

oh but GTA has to be in the US because it's a satire of US culture blah blah blah...

FUCK OFF

take it outside the US, preferably to London but I'm biased on that score

Multiple locations, branch out from the US. Rockstar has said that modern GTA is "America," but that doesn't mean they can't also go someplace else.

Washington D.C. and Moscow
Seattle and Vancouver
Miami and Havana
Hawaii and Japan
Boston and Dublin
etc.

Two protagonists - one American, one from the other location.

There are adults with juvenile senses of humor. You act like all 3 of them were like Trevor

Their satire of the USA at this point tastes like a lukewarm South Park episode from 1999 that got reheated, put back in the fridge, and reheated again. If that's their argument for why GTA has to be in the US, they need to reevaluate some things.

Why exactly do they "need to"?

Because GTAs have been tanking lately?

Another 80's scenario would make me loose my shit.

It's really hard to predict how far Rockstar can push the next entry of GTA. But in the past
every damn time they managed to blow my mind and exceed my already high expectations.

In terms of open world design they set the industry standard and everybody else follows along.
I have no doubt that they will do it again.

In regards to mission design and gameplay there is plenty of room for improvement tho.
Maybe we will see glimpses of that in RDR2. That is if they are attemting to improve it..

Something other than America maybe? I wish we'd get something as polished as GTA5 in London.

I wouldn't mind Bully 2 instead.

New City, maybe something akin to Washington DC.

Do the three protag thing again, that was pretty cool.

Female, nerdy fat dude, and whoever for #3.

I am honestly shocked when i hear statements like this. Its like when i hear people say "a new Playstation is coming out? How much better can it get?" like what?

GTA should expand upon the heists and give the player even more options for setups and how to perform them.

If they keep a multi-protag route, it would be cool to have one of the characters be a detective tracking down the heist crew throughout the game. So you would go through a heist as a character, then you would have to investigate the aftermath as the detective character. Very much influenced by the movie Heat.

One thing that a lot of the GTA games have suffered from was a lack of endgame content. For GTA V they assumed the endgame would be people jumping over to GTA Online. I think it would be cool to bring some of the content they made for Online into the single player. Such as drug running, import/exporting cars, stealing and selling illegal goods on the black market. Give players that don't wanna deal with asshole randoms online fun ways to make money in single player after beating the game.

Setting wise...I think it would be nice to go back to Vice City or have it set in London.

I agree with the people saying explorable interiors. They need to find a way to justify that because it would give the world a way more physically grounded feel rather than the Hollywood set feel that it has in V. It would also go hand in hand with giving the NPCs actual lives with homes and jobs that they return to and exist in.

I'd also touch on something that is kind of hard to explain, but that I've felt acutely lacking in this series: Rockstar needs to find a way to CONSTANTLY reward the player for exploring the environment. In my opinion, the environments are the stars of these games, and there is precious little reason to actually commit any of it to memory or really dig into the nitty gritty of exploring all the hand-crafted little nooks and crannies of the world. I'm not talking about collectibles, either. One lame example would be adding a parkour element, so traversal wasn't only about driving. That's an easy example to relate to, but I'm actually thinking bigger than that. I want to be able to relate to these worlds in more tangible ways than speeding through them with my eyes glued to the GPS.

Make buildings and houses explorable. Have pedestrians line up and sit in shops and sit and walk around in houses. Imagine how much fun it would be to barge in some random house and see an NPC on the couch freak out.

And more destructable buildings. Right now buildings are just static objects that don't really react to the player smashing into them. Doesn't have to be like Battlefield destruction. Just something like having brick walls crumble and deform a little where you ram them and letting you crash into/through the glass entrances of shops and banks.

One can dream.

At the end of the game, would be interesting to be mayor of whatever city Rockstar pulls us in.

boss-starz-tv-show.jpeg

Basically, the game would be on the same tracks as a regular GTA, meaning you're basically a thug or a non recommandable character, with all the side activities and the beautifully wrapped story BUT at the end game, elections would be set. The player then would spend the money earned throughout the game to campaign in the different districts of the city. If elected mayor, the player would then rules the city with the voting of the city board :

- Too much drugs and prostitution, more cops in this area ?
- what about the traffic laws ? Should we be more severe ?
- build a golf center or a compound ?
- what about unemployment and education in this area ?

As a mayor, the player could also play it dirty. One member of the city board doesn't intend to vote aas you want for a particular project ?

- Sneak into his house without being caught or send members of your old crew (classic GTA gameplay) to threaten him and his wife until he agrees with you or create,

OR

- Create a crash accident where he would unfortunately die.

The CEO of NUka Cola wants to be convinced that the future of his brand lies in your city ? Invite him to play golf or for a plane race ? His decision will be based on your score.

Some "friends" would want to talk about your old life to the newspapers. What would you do with them ? Pay them with cash, eliminate them, or help their business being more profitable (e.g. : if your "friend" is in the prostitution business, convince at any cost the chief of police to stop arresting prostitutes).

Create chaos (your old life) or order (your new life) in the city. Every 8 hours (or so), there would be new elections. It's all end game.

Irish mob, 1970's Boston.

Make it and I will play it.... actually I'll play any GTA, they are all awesome.

Either double down on the scale or integrate multiplayer into the story mode. Would honestly prefer them just focusing on a unique premise and that should be enough. Female character or another city outside of America might be pretty cool. Would require a lot of work to nail the atmosphere which rockstar have always been good at.

It's not just because it's a satire of US culture, it's because US culture is so prevalent outside of the country. People know American musicians, movie stars, athletes etc. all over the world. The same can't necessarily be said about a British actor that hasn't moved over to doing shows or movies in the US.
