Good.

EP 9 now, uhhh
holy shit, the twist and shit Jessica has more to be angry about than Hannah as things stand.

Just watch the episodes, Clay! ;).

(and by the way, this is a bit vague spoiler for Jessica for the person I replied to if he hasn't gotten further in the show yet).
I don't know if I'd say Hannah had it worse but trust me, she has just as much stuff to be angry about... one difference is they leave it looking like jessica will have at least one person who can stop it... actually she already has one person who has pushed her in a better direction by the time the show ends).

I've been rewatching and there are a lot of cool scenes that you don't understand the first time, but they click for the second time. I remember thinking Clay was a strange guy at the start of the series.

Also, the scene "girls... Girl. Singular" is the best scene on the series.

Wife and I have been hate-watching this shit and have 3 episodes left thank god. Fuck the writing in this show is garbage.

Show makes me angry every time I watch it.

Surprised to find out like all of my nurse coworkers are watching this show. I wonder how popular it actually is?

Who knows but I'd say it's really popular, I keep seeing the show being brought up a lot. I wouldn't be surprised if it's one of Netflix's most popular recent shows.

Something that bothered me about the whole tape chain is that I'm not sure I really buy Justin passing the tapes on to Jessica or really anyone passing the tapes on. Like no one tried to call Hannah's bluff?

Everyone seemed a bit scared of Tony and he had the other set of tapes. It's not really a bluff to expect Tony to realize the tapes, especially when he isn't on them. He has nothing to lose but letting Hannah down and he's not going to do that, and they know it.

All you do by calling her bluff is fucking yourself over and in turn you fuck everyone else on those tapes.

It kiiiiiiiinda nailed the North American high school tone down in the first few episodes, but I agree. It's been rather downspiraling for me since episode 6.

To its credit, does a good sell of how some of these guys are complete fuckwads consistently.

I'm halfway through the series but I'm probably going to stop because I just can't get over the hump that all the actors looks as if they're in their mid-20s. Also, the token minority tough kid is just ridiculous. Is that what a cholo is supposed to look like in a white suburb?

Yeah I just figured one of them would be stupid enough do it

I just don't see the benefits of doing this.

If you don't pass on the tapes then everyone gets to hear them or you pass them on and only the people on the tapes, who wouldn't want the tapes to get out, get to hear them. In one scenario EVERYONE hears them and in the other only 13 people do.

He's not a cholo or a token character since the show has a lot of other POC.

Teens have been played by 20 year olds for decades now.
You must have never seen a cholo before, most don't even have hair. Just because he's latino doesn't mean he's a cholo.

He doesn't live in a white suburb. He openly makes a comment about how things are different on his side of town, so the implication is he lives in a rougher neighborhood.

One thing I will defend is the conversation between Mr. Porter and Hannah in the final episode. They absolutely nailed the way a student would talk and come to ask help from a teacher, and also the way Mr. Porter tried to get inside her head to help her to open up to him. So frustrated dealing with children who have so much inside of them but find it so difficult to communicate, so I found that scene very powerful.

Just finished it. I thought it was a really frustrating show.
The first half is boring but it picks up later. And honestly kinda unsatisfying ending.

I just finished it. I hated it but liked it at the same time.

Sure the writing is horrible at times, events unbelievable, and some of the character turns make no sense...

but the acting especially in the last 4-5 episodes is top notch. The scene of
revelation about Jeff, rape twice, and then the actual suicide[ very emotionally moving. /SPOILER]

Not sure if the ending worked for me.
Is the implication that Tyler will not go on a shooting spree now that the tapes will come out? Is Justin going to kill himself or just leave?
What is the arc or ending to Zach's character? Alex shot himself right after texting Zach nonstop? I get Alex was troubled throughout the whole show but I don't get why he shot himself.

only thing implied is tyler wont shoot alex because alex stood up for him

hear the part where she says he doesnt deserve one?

That tape was about her pushing him away

Yeah I took it more as a tape about herself because she pushed him away but of course, in the end, he could have done more knowing the things people were saying about her.

Your thoughts on the other characters I listed and their endings?

The other one I forgot
Mr. Porter - he seemed completely likable but utterly incompetent the whole time. Was the intention to show how limited counselors are? Or how they miss the signs, like at the end with Alex?

mr porter came off as awesome until her cry for help went unanswered. I think she just as muc at fault for not just saying Bryce BUT as an adult I would have went to the police whether she named him or not. He could have helped her.

Tyler isngoing crazy but I think he took Alex off because he stood up for him at rhe end.

Alex I think did try to kill himself out of guilt and self hate. You can tell he feels too much pressure from his family to be a "badass" as well and he has plenty access to guns.

Zach I think is a good guy but spoilee man. Her rejecting him made him upset and more stupid. Im not sure if he really has an ending persay. His arc simply ended with him feeling guilty about how he treated her and how she understand that he truly feels alone too.

Courtney can burn in hell and I hope Bryce gets tortured.

I truly just feel sad after this show. I miss Clay and Hannah and I feel sad that they should have had eachother and if either of them spoke up more then this would have ended better .

I know its fake and a show but I feel sad for them still

Wait, so Clay is on the tapes because... he's such a nice and respectful guy? What the fuck, this is garbage.

She specifically says he doesn't deserve to be on the tapes but put him on it to explain why she acted that way that night. I think she just wanted him to understand why she pushed him away and that it wasn't him

I find I'm happier when I can get myself to stop watching shows that do that to me (I mean I liked the show myself but if you hate it, you hate it. But really, you'd be happier getting yourself to stop the impulse to watch it and go watch something you enjoy). I know the feeling of insisting on watching a show you hate, but once you stop and get over the impulse, you'll realize how much nicer it is to be able to forget it and move on.

Watched to like episode 4, probably won't be carrying on. I think I'm too old for this show.

Everyone's just a fucking idiot and the main character is a fucking gorm.

"I think some guy is watching me! Let's put on a show for him and catch him in the action!"

No, no you dumbass, call the police.

"Oh fuck I got caught taking pictures of these girls through the window but I'm just gonna upload the pics anyway? Also I stalk people because I'm the yearbook dickhead and I have to take pictures or something"

Dunno how to explain it, the characters just feel over the top, not real even by TV standards.

I just finished the first episode and I'm a bit confused.

The scene in the park shows her going beyond "just a kiss" but she is narrating it several times as "just a kiss".

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
Man Clay is
getting fucked over repeatedly. He's my boy man, poor guy.

Only person thus far that seems to possess any emotional intelligence despite some dumb mistakes. Only ep 6 though so...

for Clay
It gets worse :(

I loved this show. I just finished it last night. I loved it so much, I managed to "binge" watch it in 3 days, by watching while the baby napped and staying up late, after he was asleep. I don't have time to do anything, but I found time to watch this show.

I was disappointed in Clay though,
for spreading pictures of Tyler. I know Tyler was a creep, but I feel like Clay is just perpetuating the same harassment that started this whole thing. Which sort of misses the point. Also, as much of a creep as Tyler was, Marcus was pretty bad too. Obviously Bryce was horrible. Justin was also awful. The kids reacted worse to Tyler (by throwing rocks through his window), because he was weird and they already didn't like him. It was sad to me, to see the same cycle all over again.

Also, the Counselor
was really bad at his job and not at all praiseworthy. He should have known she was in trouble and he immediately assumed, when she came to talk to him, that she just regretted having sex with a boy.
.

The bathtub scene was hard to watch and the scene where her parents found her, had me in tears.

I just finished the first episode and I'm a bit confused.

No it didn't. It was just a kiss. What do you think it showed?

I think what I really hated about the ending was

complete nonfollow-up between Clay and his parents. Throughout the show you see him keeping them at a distance while they try and try to understand and give him space.

You would think after he reveals the tapes and his mom knows about the tapes there would be something there. I think there needed to be because of one of the themes in the shows is parents either completely absent (Bryce), encouraging a bad-ass image (Alex), ruining this kid's life (Justin), trying but not picking up on anything (Hannah, Zach, Tyler, and Clay)

Not that the show would explain how to be a perfect parent but the complete lack of follow up with any of the character's parents threw me off. I kept looking to see how much time was left in the show and was disappointed when they last shot is them just driving away.

Or maybe as a new parent I am just thinking of myself 14-15-16 years down the road and thinking how if I was ever in a similar position, I would react or hopefully prevent.

I could have sworn it showed him putting his hand up her skirt.

I think he just got a picture up her skirt, because he shot it while she was coming down the slide. I don't remember him actually reaching up her skirt.

I feel the same. It's funny how growing older changes your perspective. I have a 10 month old son and I watched the whole season thinking, what would I do differently? It really made me think about what I can do, to make him feel comfortable sharing his problems with me. It also made me think about what I can do, to protect him from bullying and also teach him not to bully.

Just finished.

Man Clay
doesn't deserve to have this shit thrown onto him. Hannah's logic in including him is twisted even if it's ultimately lulz u good bro! After 10 tapes of tension building.

Throwing that emotional grenade on Clay - the one person she supposedly cares about and was good to her - is bullshit.

I know it's ultimately in service of the story but it really doesn't help the perception of Hannah.

It was a selfish, teenage thing to do but the impact on Clay's psyche
would have been considerably lessened if he listened to the tapes in one sitting like I'm sure she expected him to and like everyone else did. I can understand why he was on the tapes from Hannah's perspective: she wanted someone who was on her side to hear them

I actually found Clay's reaction and fear to be a little strange. Throughout the process he keeps repeating, "what did I do?" Well, what did you do. This doesn't seem like the kind of thing you can be blindsided by. You remember your interactions with Hannah.

I mean, I think his anxiety is more understandable, after you see their encounter at the party. I'm sure he was concerned about how she felt afterwards and he was afraid he moved too quickly, but the only surprise would be Hannah explaining her feelings. It's not like he was going to discover he murdered someone.
I almost wanted to ask him, buddy do you have amnesia? Why are you so confused?

to be honest, I believe Clay deserved to be there just for the fact that in many other times Clay would just turn a blind eye to the things Hannah was going through, he also blamed her of some things other people did to her, all around Clay was not a good friend to hannah.

Clay didn't deserve to be in the tapes because of what he did on that night, but because of being a bad friend despite being so interested in hannah

IIRC there were two different scenes in the park. One was just a kiss and she says "thats all that happens" and then later it shows another scene and i think it implied they had sex. I assumed that was just a fake sequence thing.

Can we take off spoiler tags yet???

To be fair, Clay did the best he could. That's what makes this show, and real kids with depression, so tragic in my opinion. Some of these kids are just kids. They aren't evil or anything, shit just happens. Every kid lies to protect themselves to some extent. It just so happens that in this case it led to a terrible outcome. Sad stuff.

I suppose I can see that. Still really, really shitty, atleast
put him as one of the first to ensure he's made as quickly as possible aware that he's ok and of the gathering forces of shitty people out for his ass. Even Tony more fully explaining why he should avoid the shit cliq gang would help.

it made sense to make him one of the last, though, because he had to understand why she rejected him at the party
also, hannah never said he was a bad dude, the others did, even tony, and that never made sense

I can't stand the main character and none of the characters have agency and it's frustrating to see them so passive. Does this show get better past episode 4?
