I love Media Molecule and am looking forward to Dreams (see avatar!) but I don't see it blowing people away on a major scale, unfortunately.

I wonder what the VR situation is going to look like this year. London and Northwest probably aren't ready to show anything yet but the device needs its next wave of content after Starblood and Farpoint.

It's a very tough game to demo but just off of experience of past MM titles, it's easily my most anticipated.

I wonder if Marvel is treating the Spiderman game the same way as the first Iron man movie: a starting point to break into a new medium. Would be amazing to have different Marvel superhero games made by different devs. Can you imagine a Dr Strange rpg with over the top magic? A Thor game by Platinum?

Yea they are doing this. they got GotG for Telltale.

Then they made a multi game deal with SE. An Avengers game is coming.

I believe!

AA is at the top for superhero games. Being on par or surpassing it would be amazing.

What Insomniac games have you played?

Spyro (the first one)
Resistance Fall of Man
Resistance 2
Ratchet & Clank (PS4)

And I think that's it, I have less knowledge of Insomniac than I thought. Spyro would be the game that made the bigger impact on me but that was almost two decades ago.

I always loved the idea behind Resistance but both games were average at most to me, I've heard the third one is amazing and it always looked that way to me but couldn't play it at the time.

Ratchet & Clank... always wanted to play it but I had very little money back then and I spent it in other types of games. These days I can play practically anything I want so I got the new Ratchet, it's a good game with amazing visuals but it wasn't super interesting or fun, just enough.

Sunset Ovedrive doesn't look like something I would enjoy.

Spider-man is one of my favourite superheroes and the game does look amazing but I have this feeling that Insomniac can't pull a game of the year candidate and it's what I ultimately want from the ip. That doesn't mean I won't buy the game and play it, I'm sure I'll pre-order it unless they show gameplay that suddenly looks like ass.

Considering the length of time since Sucker Punch's last game, you would expect a release date shown for their new IP. So when do people here think it's gonna release? What's ideal?

By 2018 it will be almost 5 years since Second Son. I believe their new game is already quite advanced in development.

Q3 2018 is my bet!

Don't expect release dates for any Sony games now until they're relatively close to release. Yoshida has said that they've learned their lesson with delays this gen and they'd try to avoid those issues from now on. He also pointed out that simply going from alpha to beta now takes longer than it ever has. It's why we have no idea when games like TLoU:pII, Detroit, Spider-Man, GoW, Death Stranding, or Days Gone will be released. They don't even have years set on them. You can be sure that Sony at least has an idea of when they want them to come out, but we aren't going to hear about those aymore. The Sony at the beginning of this gen would've likely already given some of them a timeframe for a release already. For example, Uncharted 4's release timeframe (Spring 2016) was announced a full year before it was actually released.

Why wouldn't they be ready to show anything yet? It's not like VR games take longer to make than AAA games. Even showing a teaser trailer would do PSVR wonders.

While Ratchet and Clank PS4 is good, I think the best R&C are on PS3. The PS4 version didn't get enough time to produce similar quality. The movie stuff didn't help either.

I've never played Resistance but I enjoyed Spyro.

I was initially #team2018 because of the 4 year gap but Feb/March 2019 makes too much sense. GoW, Days Gone, Spidey and Detroit are likely Sony's 2018 tent-poles.

London released a game in the fall and had some layoffs. Northwest has also only existed for about two years, maybe less.

I'd be a little surprised if either of them show anything.

I'm really curious to see God of War and Spiderman numbers, i think those games are going to do really well.

According to NPD God of War 3 did over 1 million. Obviously we dont have a spiderman game to compare, but Arkham Asylum did 600k. (i cant think of anything else to compare it to).

I think GOW is definitely doing over a million. Don't know if that will totally be reflected in NPD though with the rise of digital.

I hope there's a blow-out at E3 for both Detroit and Dreams. They're both my most anticipated projects on the first-party side of things right now, and in the particular case of Dreams I feel we're long overdue a concrete release date.

I picked up The Mark of Kri on a whim last PSN sale because I really liked it on PS2, and I just realized it was developed by Sony San Diego! What the hell? The game holds up pretty well despite PS2 jank, and it's still unique and fun. But man you gotta be disappointed about that studio. I get that it is an MLB The Show factory, but they've had plenty of other efforts that have fallen completely flat. LPB Karting, Guns Up, Kill Strain and a couple PS3 move games? Excuse me while I got vomit. This studio is mismanaged IMO. Scrap the me too carting, F2P, move gimmicks or any other half-assed "let's see what sticks" efforts. I would take a single game like The Mark of Kri over all of that.

I think this GOW if done good can carry the IP to the next level .
GOW always sold good but this one can carry it to UC, TLOU , GT level sales wise.
I know a fair amount of people who never play or cared much for GOW that really hype for this one .

GG now have there big hit and i hoped Bend Days Gone does the same for them .

Quick side note, i really hate how secretive NPD is with numbers nowadays, it drives me crazy.

The reception to the reveal trailer and the amount of views is a very good sign.

I hope Detroit hits this year.

I watched a behind close doors presentation about it last year where they played that situation shown at E3 twice, with very different outcomes, and it was really cool. Connor has some scanner that reminded me of the Batman detective mode, but it doesnt just highlight stuff, it can recreate some situations in a ''3D vector style'' showing you what happened to some person or object. And the more evidence he found on the apartment, more choices opened up for him when talking to the rogue robot at the end. Really neat stuff.

I don't have as much confidance in Insomniac as people here. I mean, it's clear and certain that's gonna be a quality title, the thing i,s in my case, I've never played an Insomniac game that goes beyond A grade or even A. It's like it's this eternally B tier company that lacks something to go higher.

Of course this is personal and I haven't played every Insomniac game but it's like when they announced the game I instantly felt the maximun quality I'm gonna get.

However, the IP could change things and even time could, maybe Insomniac will get it this time or got better, what I mean is that I'm not sure if it'll be the next Arkham tier super hero game and I seriously want that.

What Insomniac games you played? Fuse?

I think God of War will be Sony's biggest game sales-wise this generation (until The Last of Us Part II comes out).

It's hard to get excited for Detroit tbh. Back then, I really liked Heavy Rain, it felt fresh and even though there were major platforms, I enjoyed the story. Not so much fun with Beyond: Two Souls. It felt really dumb and pretentious, the structure and fewer gameplay mechanics didn't help either.

That's not the sole reason I can't get excited for Detroit: Become Human. First of all, lots of great sci-fi indie games that tell a great story, and we just have a somewhat bigger sci-fi, what does it means to be a human game with NieR: Automata, which was executed perfectly.

So yeah, David Cage. I hope you really got some help from the other writers.

I'm personally super excited for Detroit. Until Dawn was one of the most stand-out experiences for the generation for me. I did 2 playthroughs of the game - once with my GF making all the decisions, another with me & a group of friends making all the decisions, and it was super fun. I would love another experience like that, and Detroit looks like its going to be delivering that. Day 1.

Sure, Until Dawn was fun. However, that was not David Cage and Quantic Dream :p

The problem with Beyond was that it stripped away any consequence of the choices you make. It all still led to the same exact two choice finale that kills any purpose of games of it's nature. Detroit looks to be doing a lot better in that regard, so I think it will definitely be the successor to Heavy Rain people wanted in the first place.

If I remember right, Cage is no longer the main writer for Detroit, he is doing another job.

Has this been posted anywhere?
A career opportunity ad appeared on Silicon Studio’s Agent website publicizing a temporary job for a 2D designer that would work on a 3D action RPG for home console based on a dark fantasy, realistic world view.

The ad does not disclose the name of the employing company, but includes an important hint: the headquarters of the developer are seven minutes from the Sasazuka station on the Keio Line in Tokyo.

I bet you guessed by now, which prominent developer has its own HQ exactly seven minutes from the Sasazuka station; it’s indeed FromSoftware, as mentioned on its own website.

As for progress on Death Stranding, Kojima quipped, "It's moving on PS4... Overall, [we] have the general plan for the project, there's a plot." His team is also still testing out different systems for the game, characters and environment. If the game were an Italian restaurant, he said, he's now focusing on what kinds of tables would be there, and what's actually on the menus. The development progress is "going pretty well" overall, he added.

Hmm... this game might just be out before 2020.
