Multiplatform would have made sense, but Eurogamer Guy wasn't super confident for no reason. It's not Laura Kate Dale or Emily Rogers. He doesn't share just any rumor. If he says it's a Switch exclusive, I believe it.
you mean that Tom Phillips guy, right?

idk how people can ignore the evidence of Nintendo announcing continued support of the 3DS line beyond 2017, the New2DSXL and even Reggie Fils-Aime saying more games are being announced for it at E3 yet continue to believe rumors.

All of the new 3DS games published by Nintendo that have been announced recently are small or low budget and the 2DS XL means about as much as the GBA Micro.

Explain this then?

DQXI-Hardware-Ann_04-28-17_New-2DS-XL.jpg

Nothing small or low budget about that.

Is that game not published by Koei like Hyrule Warriors?
And I wouldn't call Musou games big budget.

Oh okay. I guess Pokemon counts too then, since it's published by Pokemon Company and not Nintendo. :)

No wonder it'll be multiplatform. I wouldn't call Pokemon high budget either.

Cute.
The Pokemon Company is partially owned by Nintendo.
Pokemon is also a much bigger seller and a more important IP that can be used to push Switch than Fire Emblem and Musou combined.

I was kida interested on jumping back to pokemon when Stars releases on Switch since the last one I played was Crystal but it seems Sun+Moon has gotten some backlash from fans. I hope they can fix the biggest issues.

From what I've seen SM is popular with fans.

Sun/Moon are widely considered the best in the series.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
Shareholders will grill Nintendo if Pokemon skips 3DS for no apparent reason. Stars is based on S/M - so the engine is already on 3DS. We are missing a big part of the story for them to go Switch exclusive.

Everyone who owns a Switch will get it there and everyone else on 2DS/3DS. They have enough other content to drive Switch sales for this Holiday season.

Things could've changed, I don't think Nintendo expected Sun and Moon to be the second best selling 3DS title behind X and Y by getting to 15 million units in 5 months.

If they do not produce enough Switch units for Pokémon Stars, it would be better to go cross gen and placate 3DS owners who couldn't get a Switch for Stars launch with a 3DS version of Stars.

Tbf that Sun/Moon reveal was in February. We're already in May and if it's a third version we're going to get footage.

Oh to be clear I was referring more to "it doesn't have to be a direct" than the date. The Pokemon Company has enough of their own pull that I think they could easily reveal Pokemon Stars on their own terms if they wanted to. A direct is totally possible too though!

If it's a 3rd version, those typically sell less, but Sun/Moon is at 15.44m (and X/Y at 16.11m).

It would be unlikely for Pokemon Switch to be able to replicate that based on it's userbase by October/November of this year.

Multi-platform makes some amount of sense, but I could see Switch exclusive too.

Who knows.

If Pokemon Stars is a 2017 title, it will most likely be a 3DS game, or multiplat at best.

If it is a 2018 title, it's Switch exclusive.

Who would that benefit?

I don't think there's a need for double dippers like with Smash Bros for 3DS/Wii U.

hardcore crowd who want to play first do it on switch (and buys it if they don't have already), more casual crowd wait to get it for 3DS. Dunno, just an idea

I wonder if anyone would be expecting Stars to be on the Switch if it wasn't for the eurogamer rumor.

I still expect a 3DS exclusive.

Aostia

El Capitan Todd
Skipping the 3DS version wouldn't make any sense
An uprez Switch version would still be welcome by many and even better accepted for not being a true graphical update being multiplatform

While the mass would easily go for the more popular version Nintendo tendon and Pokemon company you would both benefit from larger sespecially income and good stepgap word of mouth from the first HD version of the game that would also confirm how next installment will be on that new system

If the rumored Pokemon game is shared between Switch and 3DS I expect them to market it the same way they did with BotW. Market only the Switch version and let people find out for themselves that the 3DS version exists.

Hmm...

Yes, they would have to put fine print that the Switch version of the game is being shown because it would look a lot better compared to a 400x240 video on an HD screen.

Then it shows that it's for 3DS and Switch.

So it can work.

In other territories, that's possible. In Japan though, I don't see it happening.

Principate

Saint Titanfall
Fire Emblem Warriors is small and low budget?
Ummmm that's a cheap port of what seems like switch game

It's pretty telling that all of heir major franchises have sequels announced in the future for the switch while most 3DS versions are out this year.

+ the first "home console" pokemon version. Which is something a lot of people have dreamed of (in the west).

What do they gain from not having a comparable version in terms of content for the 3DS audience who got Sun/Moon but don't have a Switch yet? It's not like higher end models will be the only defining traits of the game. If it is, that would be really disappointing.

When people found new walking/running animations for each Pokemon in the code of the game, people assumed it wasn't in the base game because the 3ds couldn't handle it (the game already runs bad as is). Maybe that's their incentive to go full Switch and justify a third game: to offer functionalities that weren't possible on the 3ds.

is 200K spread over 10+games seen as good?
It is... We rarely get VC sales but from what I remember niche games could be happy to sell 10k on past VC depending when they were released.

More than solid numbers for that catalogue.
