European map of Implicit Racial Bias

Well this is pretty bad "science", its a voluntary test that is only accessible in English, where the subjects taking the test are coming on their own to it while knowing what the test is about, and it has vastly different data points, like Sweden has over 5000 data points for a population of 10 million, while Spain has a 2000 data points for a population of 46 million.

Technically speaking even the area where the test is being taken isn't verified, but that is really a minor thing in comparison.

It's been years since I remember anyone black commiting any big crime in Poland. Black people are extremely rare here and those that are here are either celebrities, students or are just in transit, so it's not like they will be commiting any crimes.

I don't think facts and stats really make much difference where racism is concerned anyway to be honest.

Implicit racial bias and racism are not synonymous, people.

Racism is an ideology. It is a conscious belief.
Implicit racial bias is an unconscious reaction, and is influenced more by things like media portrayals.

Treating the two things as if they are the same thing hinders progress on racial equality. It discourages people from accepting their own implicit biases.

US for comparison
Um, forgive me if I'm wrong here but isn't the legend on the US map skewed a lot higher in it's color representation? Like the bluest of the blue states would be a lot closer to a gray neutral on the Europe map.

Yeah, because the average of the states is closer, and the overall range is higher than Europe. It's a separate study.

I'm surprised Austria is so low, that doesn't match up with what's been happening there (no offence to Austrians).

Oh, I see what's up.

The data comes from Europeans who visit thed the US Project Implicit website, which is in English. Language specific IAT data may be available in the near future. For now we can be certain that the sample reflects a subset of the European population which are more internet-savvy than typical, probably younger, and probably more cosmopolitan (both because they are both comfortable using a website in English, and from the sheer fact that they were interested in taking a test of implicit racism). These factors are likely to underweight the extent of implicit racism in each country.

It would be interesting to see a more scientific study on this

Still to this day, I do not understand why people harbour so much hate against black people. I honestly have no idea how some people can hate people based in their skin.

Right, but you guys are bordered by Orban's Hungary and Poland under the influence of Kaczynski and Korwin. Both of those countries also have economic and political factors pretty conducive to anti-immigrant bias.
As Pole i can tell you that we dont have generally immigration bias.
I mean sure people are 'less' keen to middle-eastern immigrants now than they were several years ago, but its due to fear of what is happening in the rest of Europe, but generally Poles are not against immigration.
Also this research was about Black people, which are not that many in Poland, thats why we did not score higher than the rest of the Europe.

Its not talked much, but Poland took 1.2 million of immigrants from Ukraine and there were never problems or any uproar regarding Asian immigrants in Poland.

Damn Italy i expected worse from you! Our far right party is only at 12%, clearly need to step up our game.

They're not killing polish people in the streets?

WTF. I'm sure you can dig up some murder against any nationality if you search hard enough but one against a Polish person does not mean they're killing them in the streets. You have a twisted impression of the UK.

Differences of 0.01, if they are even significant, probably describe a ridiculously low effect size. So the color gradient appears pretty misleading to me. But hey it confirms our biases regarding western and eastern European peoples. I wonder if we can do an IAT on how quickly people perceive these scores to be real.

Iceland really is the greatest place on Earth. Cool language, the least racial bias (apparently) in the world, scummy bankers are prosecuted, Sigur Ros and Björk. What more can you ask for?

Also what's up with countries speaking Romance languages being all red?

The UK is far more Xenophobic than racist.

Polish? Nigerian? Pakistani? Immigrate to Britain and expect the same level of hate regardless.

I wouldn't exactly say that exactly. They all can get it pretty bad but from personal experience as a black dude Pakistani/anyone looking remotely like their from the middle east get some of the worst. You get the usual bullshit being black but you don't get the overt fear and hatred by what they deem as middle eastern looking even if your not. Up north there's so few black people that your practically a novelty, down south there's so many your normalised so you get less stopped in the middle of street hatred (though in London it's a whole different ballgame). I had a muslim friend in uni and he got casual looks of extreme dislike/hatred from some of his lecturers as in they don't even bother hiding it.

I refuse to believe that Germany is more racist than Austria.

I've lived 7 years in Austria and 7 years in Germany and is like day and night.

In Austria, they don't just hate you cause you are black or other color, no, they hate you the moment they realise you don't understand their dialects, you can be whitetest blondest dude but if you aren't "from around" it's "go fuck yourself".

Portuguese hate their own kind. Azores vs the Mainland is a fight that will never end.

This wasn't a randomly sampled selection and has no real power comparing countries as a result. All it tells you is that most people who take racial bias tests are at least somewhat racist.

Ding.

Moreover if you went granular the map of Europe would look eerily like the red/blue county map of the US.

This map shows how easily White Europeans in Europe associate black faces with negative ideas.

Do we also have data for White/non-White Europeans' associations with Asian faces?

Seems like a poorly conducted test.

Italy isn't surprising to me at all. Shit they hate olive skinned italians ffs lol.

Italy's racism is next level shit. The things I heard people say. Absolutly disgusting.

I wonder what your sources are on this, given such accusations.
Don't fall for the loud propaganda from not-so-smart political party leaders that reaches your national newspapers. If I had to judge other countries by that, may God save us all.

I wish i could find it, but they did a study on this. Places with more visible minorities are more likely to have overt racism(name calling , violence, etc), while those with less minorities tend to have more institutionalized racism( redlining, school segregation, etc)
Definitely. Look at the "deep south" states on that map with the highest AA populations.

Raised in the 80s, it was pretty rough with combat 18 and BNP, it's been part of my experience since forever. But I'd also say there's a 'type' you can expect it from but then there's the majority that fight against it. Most detest the EDL/BNP groups, at least where I'm from (London). We elected a British Asian mayor don't forget.

400+ years of the morally worst yet highly successful PR/marketing of all time thanks to Europe's (and their offspring nation's) slave trade. White Americans born today still inherit this racial baggage as US has done barely anything to redress their campaign of Black inferiority and criminality. It's almost impossible not to absorb at least some of this messaging at this point in time.
