Gang Beasts can't commit to XB1 release due to parity clause, considering Switch

the same guy who said he was investing in first party

And I remember also him saying that there was never a parity clause, if I remember correctly lol

Fake edit. It's in the same article someone linked:

When asked directly if the rule is dead, Spencer said, "I think so. There's this idea that's been named 'parity clause,' but there is no clause

No, he said the clause never prevented anyone from releasing on xbone, and it's just there to encite developers to see why can't they release on xbone right away, because sometimes it's easier than what the developer thought it would be.

Well...

So... What is a parity clause? Seriously i'm lost here.
"If you do not release first or at same time on our platform, you have to bring in more content."

Is generally how these go.

In MS's case it used to be even more severe, where they were threatening to not let you release -at all- on XB1 if you did not come first/ same time (but picking winners and losers, highly rated games being allegedly granted passes), it was later relaxed to just "add more stuff" (which can be a strain on small dev teams) and -supposedly- even "mostly gone" as a clause.

Apparently not.

But Phil Spencer said the parity clause doesn't exist

Then he said it's gone

Then he sent Chris Charla to say "Don't listen to other indie devs, the parity clause doesn't exist! Come talk to us!"

Oh who to believe, who to believe?

Microsoft's obsession with Exclusive this and Exclusive that really needs to die.

it's just there to encite developers to see why can't they release on xbone right away, because sometimes it's easier than what the developer thought it would be.

lmao, am I the only one reading this as "our platform is so easy to port to that we had to introduce artificial roadblocks in case developers' heads explode"?

Didn't Spencer said that the parity clause was gone?

Phil says a lot of things.

Gang Beasts on Switch could be a hit. One of those games that would work well in tabletop mode.

If they arent releasing on the Xbone at the same time as the other console versions, they cant release on the Xbone at all*

*unless of course youre making bank, in that case we want our 30% so come on over

I always thought that if it wasn't day and date with other platforms they had to add Xbox one exclusive content or something along those lines.

Before it was all or nothing then changed with exclusive stuff. Now I have no idea what it is

Please give me a quote of this because it's hilarious. This is 90s/00's era Nintendo thinking.

I would love to play this with the family on Xbox.

I thought this wasn't a thing any more with ID@XBOX?

I don't know what to believe any more. You would've thought the ID@Xbox program would've helped them out here, but who knows.

Sackboy skin would be awesome and suit very well since LittleBigPlanet did this physics pulling this first.

I imagine LBP gave birth to Gang Beasts

Wait.... Open Windows version? You have to release on the W10 store as well as Xbox now?

Also, get the fuck out of here. All these people are in the end just PR for the company. If you believed anything else you're dumb.

MS is probably going to push W10 on indies hard to pad their Play Anywhere numbers.

I never understood why people seemed to think this wasn't a thing any more. There's never been any actual indication it wasn't a thing any more.

Edit: What he said was that the clause doesn't prevent people releasing games. Because people can just comply with the clause and release one Xbox day one or develop exclusive content for Xbox. It's not the clause preventing games from releasing on Xbox, it's dev's decision not to comply with the clause.

I thought this was a relic of a past era. Come on MS, get your shit together.....

I don't think I've ever played a console as little as I have played my XB1.

There is something wrong her... From the Developer. i mean Windows Store? What has this to do with Xbox?

The parity clause is a relic of the past that just needs to go away at this point.

"Relic of the past" would imply there was a point in time where the clause made any sense or was anything but counterproductive, which isn't really the case. It was a monumentally stupid clause from day one.

This makes it seem like they're talking hypothetical. They're not sure if it's low friction but are checking with MS? Sounds like they may be going off what they're heard. Odd.

Parity clause never went away it just evolved from a flat out no by default unless in select cases(exception) to if you add content you're good to go(A.k.a you get an exception. So not surprised there are still cases where devs are affected. Sad to see.

Also lmaooo if "open Windows version" is referring to UWP/Play anywhere.

Edit - Just remembered also if you have an exclusive launch deal you were also exempt http://m.neogaf.com/showthread.php?p=92400277

Well if you look at the number of releases on XB1 anybody will guess the parity clause is not gone.

Possible only PR just to cover the real issue.

Phil really needs to stop dancing around Xboxs issues with his fancy PR speak. What he says sounds nice at the time he says it, but it always comes back to bite him in the ass when he doesn't deliver.
