Resident Evil: Code Veronica X PS4 stealth release after German rating in March

Outside of new releases like Resident Evil 7, Dead Rising 4, Ace Attorney: Spirit of Justice, etc. pretty much everything released by Capcom in between these releases has been nothing but ports. They've been going crazy with them compared to other companies.

Yes, that is correct. Outside of new releases everything has been an old release.

I mean, what?

I'm pretty confident this will be a largely unchanged port that is 1080p, 60FPS and features analog controls. Don't think it'll be a PS2 Classic (although funny enough, it was a PS2 Classic for PS3).

I'm still waiting for my Maximo HD collection Capcom!!

Sad if this doesn't get a physical release, i bought all the others on physical on PS4 so was hoping to have the whole lot on disc

So I'm guessing the chances of getting a PS4 license after having bought the PS3 version years ago is 0%, right?

Can they just up it to 60fps though? The port last gen was 720p@30fps I believe and the animations and cutscenes all run 30 I think.

Maybe I'll actually finish code veronica this time, always get a decent way in and then just give up for some reason.

How was it a PS2 Classic? Only version on the UK store is the HD rerelease. Unless there was also a PS2 version in other regions...

Japan got both the HD re-release AND PS2 classic. No idea why but both versions are out there for Japanese consumers.

Ah that makes sense then... Well, the twin release thing doesn't, but now your comment does :)

To be honest having played both the GC and PS3 versions I have to say I prefer the look of the original. I know it doesn't have the fancy lighting effects and all, but there's more colour in the original and I feel the excessive darkness of the HD version spoils it visually. Also the HD version somehow emphasises the age of the base assets that bit more.

Need it on Xbox one I have 0-1 on PS4 but I bought the crazy 20$ deal for everything on Xbox one. Need code Veronica to have all the collection

I haven't beaten this or RE-0 and 6. Actually I never played the last 2 yet and only played Veronica for about a half hour.

I didn't like the ps3 version so much, it was so dark outside you could barely see a thing

Yeah I think I prefer the original as well. Some scenes did benefit from the new lighting scheme, but for the most part the excessive amount of darkness obscured too much.

And the Dreamcast version is still definitive.

Code Veronica is the most underrated game in the RE series, and one of the most underrated games in general. I only put REmake and RE4 above it. I'll certainly play it again if it comes to PS4.

I always regret not playing this on Dreamcast, I only played CVX on PS2. Tbh I regret never never playing anything on Dreamcast, I have never even seen one IRL.

They are the 3 most disliked of the main series entries, so that's not surprising. As I mentioned I think CV is fantastic, and is a must-play. RE0 is okay but not essential, it's my least favourite of the classic RE games. RE6 is a warcrime, the like of which we haven't seen since Coldplay released their first album.

It's mind-blowing that Onimusha still hasn't popped back up since ps3, it would've been a great HD collection last gen but I'll take it now please.

Think it's due to actor shenanigans and the 2D prerendered backgrounds. However I think it's only a matter of time.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
Good for the people who want it but I'll stand by my earlier comments that playing this on PCSX2 or Dolphin is the best way because that lets you hotkey a 'speed up' option to bypass the ridiculously long door/ladder animations this game has.

So why do people think this is a PS2 Classic rather than the HD remaster of last gen?

Just because if its a PS2 Classic it won't come to PC...and I have a PC so that's another game I can't play :/

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.
Wow, cool. I might check this then even if it's a PS2 classic.

In this case "high-res" means 1292x896.
But I think the logic behind the PS2 classics theory is faulty. There's no reason "now in HD" needs to be on the art when it's the second HD release.

Emulate it friend, you can run it at higher resolutions and can even use wide-screen patches to get it in line with modern displays. Also, speed toggles !!!!

So this is confirm to come next week? but just know which version it wlll be

Honestly if they release this as a PS2 classic then I can't see it getting a lot of sales. Not to mention that Capcom has only released PS2 classics of games in the west when they haven't bothered to do an HD remaster.

With the sheer amount of Youtube channels comparing version differences these days it'd be a disaster to release a version on PS4 that looks like a huge technical downgrade from the PS3 version (even though I prefer the original aesthetically).

I think it's more likely that this is a straight port of the HD version, as it's surely little more work that a PS2 port (given the MT framework engine is already ready for PS4 use).

It's not that different, tbh. Steve has a different haircut and there's less cutscenes, which I actually prefer, because almost all of the extra ones pertain to Wesker, and they portray him a bit too much out of character for my liking. The DC version has the VMU heads up, too.

But yeah, the real difference was playing it when it was new and fresh, and still incredibly good-looking. It looks super-dated now, but going from RE3 to RECV (only a few months later at that) was a pretty mindblowing leap in 2000.

Code Veronica is the most underrated game in the RE series, and one of the most underrated games in general.

Agreed. I rate it very highly, it has some of the best puzzles and environment design in the series.

I'd add the music to that list as well, it's far and away the best in the series IMO. I also really like the time, character and location shifts, which really shook up the standard RE progression formula as we knew it. They really surprised me back then.

Played, beat, and loved REmake, but its still just RE1.

I think that's a slightly reductive view! Whilst the basic structure and mechanics of the game are the same the introduction of Crimson heads means it has to be played pretty differently. Beyond that it's by far the best classic style RE, whereas before that I'd say the original RE was incredibly dated in comparison to RE2 and 3.

It's a bit like comparing Godfather the movie to Godfather the book. One is now seen as a timeless masterpiece, whilst the other is a serviceable but altogether unremarkable story - a crowd-pleasing bestseller when it first released, but not something one would rate highly if reviewed today.

I mean REmake is definitely superb and superior to the original RE1, but it is still effectively the same game.

I will say that RE2 stands head and shoulders above all RE games including REmake, for me.

I'd say RE2 > REmake > RE3 > Code Veronica > Revelations 1 and 2 > RE4 > 5 > 6

Lol.

Not surprising as Capcom has been putting less and less effort into rereleasing Resi ports on current gen consoles, with 4-6 getting nothing like the treatment REmake and Zero got.

Good sign for other Capcom PS2 games coming though.

Given the complete silence regarding this release, people should've expected an emulated version. Capcom is so dead they consider ports marquee releases and would've given it some formal announcement well before launch.
