Macron Campaign Emails Hacked and Posted Online

I don't think the French Macron voters are generally as gullable as American voters and I say that as an American who knows a lot of French people.

French people will vote based upon what Macron is going to do rather than based on emails.

it says in the 3rd paragraph that those who circulated these documents took real ones but put in fake ones as well

1.) Hack enemy's emails, make entire thing available to public.
2.) Comb every email for anything that could be misconstrued as a smoking gun (e.g., email servers, pizza gate).
3.) Leak story through fake news websites, wait for media to pick up on story, knowing that no individual can comb through every email and provide full context to the situation.
4.) Watch as the feedback mechanism of conservative-liberal 24hr mainstream media blow the story out of proportion, polarizing voters and tarnishing the reputation of the candidate.
5.) ???
6.) Profit?

Macron's lead over Le Pen has steadily widened since the big debate and it was already like 20 points, unlike a certain other candidate. I doubt Macron is in danger here when he's already winning like 60/40 according to the French polls.

I don't think French television & print media will even cover this story until after the election, if I'm not mistaken.

I expect some FN officials to be dumb, thinking they're subtle and go "wink wink" on Twitter when it's explicitly forbidden.

I guess the Bahamas fake news and the fake SMS were just hors d'oeuvres.

There's the official PR there (in French):

If Macron doesn't lose his apparently substantial lead, I expect a reckoning for the shitheads who have been propagating this shit.

You can rest easy

I'm not familiar with the rules in France. I know that the campaign is officially over as of today, then no polls at least will occur until the vote.

Also pretty much this. The election is too soon.

So... I don't speak french so could someone summarize this?

We were hacked, there's fake docs, they're trying to mess with our democracy, we ask the media to behave responsibility, etc

I think it says something about privacy and publication being illegal in certain aspects

For what it's worth, the French media can no longer cover the election until polls close.

I think the idea is to get it to spread on social media

Step #4 may actually not happen since it is apparently illegal to have anything about the election on the news now until it is over.

Good timing there, Russia.

You would think these people would hire better security experts.

As a matter of fact the Macron team was one of the better prepared against hacking during the election, they had specific training for all the members against phishing, and instructions not to communicate strategic information through emails. But then nothing is foolproof.
They already filed a complaint for interference in the electoral process after the fake documents about an offshore account, I guess that leak will be added to the file.

are there even that many 4 chan french speakers that can go through these emails?

No, the stories that have come out so far seem like the bulk of the alt-right attempts to hit the French with the same kind of social blitz failed for the very reason that they don't speak enough French.

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/05/04/...s-alt-right-fake-news-le-pen-macron.html?_r=0

Despite such efforts, the far right in the United States and elsewhere has so far failed to reach much of the French electorate ahead of the country’s vote this weekend, according to a review of social media activity done for The New York Times. The analysis, which was based on a review of millions of Twitter messages related to the election since last summer, showed that more than one-third of posts linked to certain political hashtags originated from the United States, although few went viral in France.

“There’s a big cultural gap that these groups have to jump over to expand their message,” said Ben Nimmo, a senior fellow at the Atlantic Council, a think tank, who has studied the far right’s recent efforts in France. “The language and iconography of the alt-right is pretty specific. Most of it just isn’t going to translate well.”

Is Marcon the more liberal option?

Yup here's some info on Le Pen

"If you come to our country, don't expect to be taken care of, to be looked after, that your children will be educated without charge," she said in a speech in Paris. And, more threateningly, "playtime is over"

That's how she feels about immigrants. She seems to be a nasty person and her father was a pos too.

Oh I don't think it will hurt Macron, but there's also the legislative elections in June. Some of the candidates might be in here.

They give up on beating macron but force him into cohabitation?

Not a chance. French media nothing like the idiot club in the US/UK.

Actually, it's not a way to tank Macron's election but to tank his presidency as that can be used to delegitimize the president or show that he's sketchy or something.
It's an even more direct attack on the French Republic than it appears.

I'm expecting wowitsnothing.gif followed by a ton of fake shit piggy backing off this hack to seem legitimate, spreading like cancer on social media.
