Nintendo E3 plans detailed

It says focus.

Nintendo’s E3 activities kick off on Tuesday 13th June at 17:00 BST with its Nintendo Spotlight: E3 2017 video presentation. Available to view in local languages live at Nintendo of Europe’s E3 2017 website, this presentation will offer more details about Super Mario Odyssey and other Nintendo Switch games, with a focus on games launching this year.

In my heart goddamit.

Actually in Nintendo's press release.

From the press release which should probably be put into the OP since it's more detailed than the tweet.

Thanks. Although between Splatoon 2, ARMS, Mario Odyssey, Mario X Rabbids, Pokemon Stars (?), Xenoblade 2, Fire Emblem Musou and some 3rd party games they are going to highlight like Skyrim I can't see them talking about too many 2018 games. Maybe throwing fans a bone in form of Metroid or something.

That's nice, man. Have you read this thread at all, or are you just here to spout.

I've read the OP and the links therein, but not every post in this thread. Do you have an actual problem with my comment, or are you just deeply offended someone is not being rainbow and fairy dust about your inanimate system of choice? Because if you're not here to respond to the content of my post, then you must be here to police the negativity. If that's what you're here for, you should stop wasting my time as well as your own.

My comment is specifically a response to this:

Nintendo said:
Proceedings will be headlined by the first-ever opportunity to play the Super Mario Odyssey game, Mario's upcoming sandbox-style adventure for the Nintendo Switch system, as well as other Nintendo Switch games. Additional activities at the annual show include a Nintendo Spotlight: E3 2017 video presentation announcing new details for Nintendo Switch games launching this year, the return of Nintendo Treehouse: Live at E3, and tournaments for the ARMS and Splatoon 2 games live-streamed from the show floor.

Do you have any questions, or do you want to just whine?

Ah ok thanks, it's interesting how they keep saying "with a focus on games launching in 2017", it seems like they won't announce any new games coming in 2018?

Their last direct in regards to Switch had a focus on Splatoon and ARMs but they had information on a few other titles and announcements that were not those two games. So there's a change the language denotes that it won't all be relegated to 2017.

But who knows.

Certainly not us.

Every time Nintendo says focus, people lose their minds even though every time it is the case that focus does not mean exclusively.

I was just about to say this! The Direct that was meant to "focus" primarily on Splatoon 2 and ARMS comes to mind...

Nintendo would "focus" on 2017? They have a lot of games to talk about

-Super Mario Odyssey
-Smash port possibly (maybe next year if true)
-Xenoblade Chronicles 2
-Fire Emblem Warriors
-Skyrim
-Mario + Rabbids
-Splatoon 2
-ARMS
-new games for 2017
-a game or two for 2018
-VC for Switch
-online for Switch
-more third party games for 2017

The wording of focus is correct because the majority of their presentation will show games coming this year. They can show a 2018 Retro game trailer or a Metroid Prime 4 trailer for 2018, but the focus for 2017 is correct. People should be happy Nintendo Spotlight is only Switch games and not 3DS too.

Now that the E3 direct has officially been announced, it's to list our baseless (well, somewhat based perhaps) expectations!

- ARMS will get a brief mention, along with a final character unveil, during the presentation, just in time for the game's June 16th release date;
- Super mario Odyssey will get a long time in the spotlight: 8 minutes of footage showing off a prolonged gameplay session in a new and previously unknown world;
- The story DLC for BOTW will get a short 1 minute trailer, along with a release date for the second DLC pack;
- Metroid! A 3D Metroid will blast onto the stage, accompanied by a 2D Metroid game! One of the two is due this year, the other next year (no clue which order makes sense);
- Pokémon Stars will reveal itself! Planned for October this year, it will be a third version of the 7th gen games, and will launch exclusively on Switch (this is my guess due to the nature of the direct being apparently Switch only);
- Splatoon 2 will get new reveals: a stage, new weapon(s), and the single player mode;
- Mario x Rabbids is real! It will get an August release date;
- FE Warriors will be dated for late September;
- Fire Emblem Switch will get a name reveal, and a short teaser trailer to get me (and others) hyped af;
- Animal Crossing game will not appear, but will be saved for a dedicated direct later in the year to be spotlighted alongside the mobile game (none of this gets mentioned in this direct);
- Skyrim will get a short gameplay video, nothing extraordinary, but will be showcased both as a console game and as a portable game to hammer this fact home.

I will be deeply disappointed if these things do not all happen.

Honestly, just give us release dates, hard release dates for the rest of the 2017 exclusive lineup. Maybe some surprise announcements here and there. I'd be bummed out if we don't see Metroid or the new Retro Studios game.

This has been discussed a lot in the thread. No, it doesn't mean that.

Since when has Nintendo not announced year out games when they said they'll 'focus on...' except for Zelda E3 2016?

If they do have some surprises in store for 2017 the launch year of the switch will be one of the strongest ever as far as first party games go.

We will have gotten-
Zelda
Mario Kart
Arms
Splatoon 2
New Mario

Any system would kill to have that strong of a lineup in their first year.

GAF gets feedback on a test:

Teacher: "Now, I'm gonna start by focusing on the positives..."

GAF: "Holy shit you think it's perfect!"

Nintendo still getting use of Yoshi's epic Yarn technology in Marios hair I see
:p
Looking forward to new games for 2017 on switch and 3ds, still hoping for a bunch of localizations!

i think the 2018 titles (if there are any) will be January-March at most.
likely some smaller titles for the eshop or a Kirby game / something like Captain Toad.

Some youtube page called The Know claims that Metroid Prime 4 is being made for Switch. One of the music people is working on something at Retro and has worked on the other games in the past.

Dedicating the majority of their time to 2017 titles sounds good. Switch needs to build that library before the holidays, so that it's good value proposition against consoles that have already matured and have deep libraries of their own. That said, I imagine a number of things will be brief trailers with confirmation of the release date - like Skyrim - as they're sufficiently known about, with maybe half a dozen titles at most getting anything really in-depth.

Likely to end on an announcement of an exclusive scheduled for 2018 I would imagine though. Super Mario Odyssey has already been established as their game to end the year on, and unlike Zelda at the Switch conference, the need to treat it as the crown jewel of the show isn't quite so pressing.

Only 2017 games?

I hope they're planning a direct in like July or August.

To be fair it really sucks when companies announce games that they are not going to release that year

I wonder if they'll show ARMS at all. It's launching two days after the E3 presentation and surely there'll be lots of footage from the press already.

I've read the OP and the links therein, but not every post in this thread - something that is not required by the TOS. Do you have an actual problem with my comment, or are you just deeply offended someone is not being rainbow and fairy dust about your inanimate system of choice? Because if you're not here to respond to the content of my post, then you must be here to police the negativity (something far closer to a TOS violation, mind you). haha, wow what?

Didn't we get a pre-recorded conference, a Treehouse stream and then a Smash Bros/Splatoon tournament last year? The only difference would be that this time it's not focusing in one game (Zelda), right?
That was 2 years ago. Last year was Zelda-only.

Sounds disappointing if they're only covering 2017 releases since it'll mean no big announcements.
Although it probably makes sense given how early they announced games like Bayonetta 2 and Tokyo Mirage Sessions in the WIi U cycle compared to when they actually released. Maybe we can look forward to a November direct with some big 2018 announcements.

I don't see any point, the review embargo will probably have lifted by June 13th seeming as the game releases on the 16th. Doesn't mean they won't though aha.

Gimme a Smash Switch reveal, some Pokemon Star goodness, and detail the new Virtual Console (with Mother 3).

What? You just combined like 3 different E3 together. Lmao

They're not only covering 2017 games....and if it even were only 2017 games they can easily have big announcements.

focusing on 2017 sounds good, there's plenty to talk about and at least one or two officially new announcements to make most likely.

I want to get a Switch by the time Mario Odyssey comes, but the library as it stands is simply woefully undercooked even if I include all the announced games I actually want (Mario Odyssey, Fire Emblem, Xenoblade 2, Project Octo Traveler).

if i was interested in all 4 of these games and they would all be good-great, i'd buy that system in a heart beat. this would easy keep me occupied until fall 2018.

i'm still deep into Zelda.

I don't view it that way. A good E3 conference (or direct) showcases games that will release this year (surprises as well as old news) as well as games that will release on two or three years.

This way you know what you're investment is going to bring in the short term and the long term. Sure, you're playing Mario odyssey this year and maybe Xenoblade 2 (I hope so!), but then you don't have to wait until E3 2018 or whatever 2018 Direct to know some of what they've got planned for the year. You don't have to be concerned you're about to enter a drought since you know at least these games are coming.

You're supposed to respond to the content of someone's post, not tone police because you don't like hearing negativity. That's what forum discussion is about. So again I ask if you have something to contribute, or are you wasting my time? It's a very simple question to resolve.

If you go to the same source that quote came from, you find the following:
Nintendo's E3 activities kick off Tuesday, June 13, at 9 a.m. PT with its Nintendo Spotlight: E3 2017 video presentation. Available to view live at http://e3.nintendo.com, this presentation will offer more details about Super Mario Odyssey and other Nintendo Switch games, with a focus on games launching in 2017.

That's the same wording as for the Splatoon 2/ARMS direct, so you should expect 2018 announcement as well. Some here mentioned Nintendo have been using this wording for a while now, and it always means there is more than what the focus is on, so no reason to worry about that.

I'm betting announcements with vague release windows for 2018 games. Hopefully we'll be shown more details about the paid online.

You sound pretty ill informed. Literally the last direct was said to focus on ARMS and Splatoon. They made up a quarter of the of actual direct. When Nintendo says focus it means the just about the majority of time spent not all (or in recent case hardly any)

If they atleast announce Smash Deluxe at E3 with adventure mode making a comeback i will be happy, Smash 4 is really bad without it dunno why they replaced it with a dumb board game:/

"2017!? But Nintendo, you have to tell us all about 2018! It doesn't matter that you want to save surprises for later reveals like at E3 2018, tell us everything now or we'll be disappointed!"

That's basically what I saw in the first three pages, smh. Personally, I'm happy with the fact that Nintendo is focusing on 2017, Sony always "wins" at E3 by showing games that won't release 3, 4, or 5 years later, and I'm tired of being "excited" for games I won't even be playing for a year. Nintendo should have a new game or two that we haven't seen to fill up their release schedule in 2017, so that's enough surprised for me.

I'd like to keep the majority of 2018 surprises to 2018 is what I'm saying, although I'm sure Nintendo will probably tease at least one 2018 release (like their Jan./Feb. game).

Focusing on 2017=/=only 2017

Like every other E3 they will likely briefly announce some of their larger AAA titles releasing in the first half of 2018.
