Nintendo E3 plans detailed

I don't view it that way. A good E3 conference (or direct) showcases games that will release this year (surprises as well as old news) as well as games that will release on two or three years.

This way you know what you're investment is going to bring in the short term and the long term. Sure, you're playing Mario odyssey this year and maybe Xenoblade 2 (I hope so!), but then you don't have to wait until E3 2018 or whatever 2018 Direct to know some of what they've got planned for the year. You don't have to be concerned you're about to enter a drought since you know at least these games are coming.

You're supposed to respond to the content of someone's post, not tone police because you don't like hearing negativity. That's what forum discussion is about. So again I ask if you have something to contribute, or are you wasting my time? It's a very simple question to resolve.

Nintendo has never had an E3 for as long as I can remember where they didn't show a game coming in the following year.

Man bro, you make it sound like Nintendo literally does not announce anything inbetween E3s

To be fair it really sucks when companies announce games that they are not going to release that year

"Here´s a new fantastic game that you will play in two or three years... maybe"

Why is this a bad thing? It builds hype and will help convince people to buy systems.

I knew they'd be announcing their plans this week! Sounds good, I like the Spotlight name.

Nintendo would "focus" on 2017? They have a lot of games to talk about

-Super Mario Odyssey
-Smash port possibly (maybe next year if true)
-Xenoblade Chronicles 2
-Fire Emblem Warriors
-Skyrim
-Mario + Rabbids
-Splatoon 2

-ARMS
-new games for 2017
-a game or two for 2018
-VC for Switch
-online for Switch

-more third party games for 2017

The wording of focus is correct because the majority of their presentation will show games coming this year. They can show a 2018 Retro game trailer or a Metroid Prime 4 trailer for 2018, but the focus for 2017 is correct. People should be happy Nintendo Spotlight is only Switch games and not 3DS too.

I was gonna put together a list like this showing what we already know about that they'll likely have to talk about, but yours was great so I just bolded the things that I expect we'll hear about.

We're likely going to hear about some third party titles outside of that list but I guess we don't know for sure. I'm very interested in hearing more about things like Octopath Traveler too.

Anyway, this should be a nice meaty presentation even if they're solely focusing on 2017 (which I doubt they are).

I wonder if they'll show ARMS at all. It's launching two days after the E3 presentation and surely there'll be lots of footage from the press already.

Yeah I imagine the reviews will be out before E3 too, so I doubt they'll have to spend much if any time on it. Having a tournament going should be enough really.

I hated the ending of that movie :(

Nintendo has never had an E3 for as long as I can remember where they didn't show a game coming in the following year.

Well I mean technically of course that's true, because they had announced Zelda and that was coming an infinite number of years in the future. But there have been Nintendo E3's - especially recently - where they focused almost entirely on the content that was coming out that year. There are always a few exceptions, but it was definitely in contrast to what Microsoft and Sony did which is release a glut of content that was coming out in that year and, like, ninety years in the future after delays :p

There are some positive things to that strategy from Nintendo, but given this is early on in Switch's life I believe it is time to show the fruits of your ability to now unify your development front. Really show people what the benefits of this direction will be in the form of games. I would personally be a little disappointed with their overall presentation if for example the only 2018 game they detailed was Fire Emblem (even though I am super hyped to see it), since technically we already know Fire Emblem exists. That would count as a "focus" on 2017 still, but clearly not what people want which is surprises in the pipeline for 2017 and 2018.

Only 2017 games?

I hope they're planning a direct in like July or August.

My guess is that they will do a big Direct a bit later than that, to boost the Holiday season., where the Spring 2018 games are shown. Or that they will drip-feed the 2018 announcements on multiple Directs.

I think there are also at least two first/second party titles missing from the current 2017 release schedule, if they want to keep an even release schedule for 2017.

The "fruits" is what you can play now, not what you can play in a distant future.

i think you'll start seeing the fruits of that next year and beyond.

Every time Nintendo says focus, people lose their minds even though every time it is the case that focus does not mean exclusively.

The twitter announcement doesn't say "focus". That's what confused me at the beginning.

It's bad because we don't see them again till years afterwards, well after the hype has gone down and interest in the game has dwindled, and I doubt that E3 in particular convinces most people to buy systems

I know it says 2017 games but they will tease a big 2018 game. The only way they don't is if 2017 is completely stacked
or if Pokémon Stars is a Switch game for 2017.

In no shape or form does that suck.

It's completely fine.

When those games never actually materialize, or have gone dark for 4 years after, I'd argue that yes, it does. Smoke and mirrors are of no worth.

And if those things end up amounting to nothing? What do you say to the people who bought the system on the back of that hype?

I mean, they did technically announce a new Fire Emblem for 2018, so I think they'll announce a a few other games slated for 2018. Give us an idea of what's to come.

As for previously unannounced things that we'll likely hear about:

-Mario x Rabbids
-Rumored third party developed Metroid title
-Pokemon Stars

And things I can only dream about:

-Platinum title (Bayonetta 3?)
-Exclusive Fromsoft title

They done Robot Chicken and the Muppets. I think this year it shall be Rick and Morty.

That's a fantastic idea. Now I'll be disappointed if it doesn't happen.

Focus doesn't mean exclusive knowing their past, I'm sure we'll get a couple exciting announcements. I'm good for the focus on this year though, there is a lot. They can start by focusing their way to Xenoblade 2.

Looking forward to the Kirby 25th anniversary game and Retro's new DK game segments. Also some Fire Emblem Warriors and maybe the Boxboy retail collection getting brief mentions.

Retro's new DK game segments.

I hope this isn't what they're going for, but has there been rumours that is the case? I hadn't heard anything didn't know if I missed it. Retro holds a special place in my heart due to Metroid Prime, so really interested to see what they can do on Switch. Maybe a new IP?

.

This do make sense

But still, its pretty enerving when they show games that are yeeears away

You get excited about a game that has no release date, when it gets one it will probably be delayed, it may suck or change completely from the release trailer... or it may never be released at all

the perfect E3 for me would be miyamoto on a stage saying "And here is a giant countdown clock for the release of Super Mario Odyssey" and the clock starts counting from 10seconds "Its here! Its released now! You can buy it in the eshop at this very moment!" fireworks

best movie ever.

These plans always dictate the generale scope, but there's always a surprise or two. Even if there isn't, I'm super stoked to see more on the 2017 games, as there's quality titles in there we hardly know anything about.

Pretty much what was expected, now for Nintendo to deliver.

The fruits are the harvest you get from that strategy. One still wants to see the seeds they're planting!

Eh did you really need to see the sees of Ff Versus 13 or even FF 7R or KH3 many years ago? Games in the near future feel more important to me not games far out that purely exist for marketing and generating hype.

Here's the thing about focusing on the future of Switch beyond 2017. It does not cover everything everyone wants to know for the Switch in 2017. They have all year to talk about 2018 releases on their own terms outside E3, but right now with their eyes on them it's the ideal event to talk about why you should be getting a Switch this year instead of waiting to see what will happen.

They want to outline the content they want to release this year, already announced or not, to justify those 10 million+ Switches they want to sell for this fiscal year. They need to talk about Odyssey, they need to talk about Virtual Console, the online service, they need to talk about Xenoblade 2, Smash, video stream, maybe even Pokemon.

Everthing you say about the Switch being barebones or not ready for you to buy can be explained at E3 as they focus on the Switch in 2017.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
Just as an addendum, at this point the Treehouse will be another place for announcement, even if just for 3DS. Otherwise, where could they show the first footage / name of the Kirby multiplayer game? Where else could they announce the Superstar Saga's remake?

I mean last year they announced Ever Oasis for the 3DS. The Wii U was dead last year and they focused on one title. The context is different this year. Nintendo isn't the company to show you 2019 games, especially because they have Nintendo Directs that they want to hold some surprises too. I mean look at your example in Fire Emblem. They announced it in February in a Fire Emblem Direct it was coming to Switch in 2018. I don't expect to see it at this E3. They'll probably fully reveal it at another Nintendo Direct.

They could have surprise announcements this year like a Pokémon Stars and Smash 4 Switch.

The have a lot to show just for this year. They can easily show you a couple of trailers for games coming next year like Retros game and a Metroid Prime 4 for example, but don't expect 5-6 games coming in 2018 to be shown at Nintendos E3.

I thought the Retro rumors suggested they were working on a new IP (not sure if entirely new or just new to them)?

There is nothing Retro can make that won't upset people at this point.

Other than new first party games, I expect showings of indie games like usual at the treehouse.

Be a smart consumer and don't get duped by marketing.

Not to mention buying a system for just one game isn't exactly a smart move.
