Injustice 2's graphics and production values (both on console and mobile) seem insane

the stigma of "single player content is for scrubs" is 100% capcom apologist bullshit and couldn't be further from the truth. if you wanna drop $60 on a game that only has training mode and offline versus because that's all pro players need, be my guest, but being condescending towards others for expecting more out of a video game is ludicrous.

I completely agree with this.

tbh you seem more worked up about this than anyone. why does it upset you that this game is popular?

It what makes me laugh

If it wasn't for "scrubs" buying games for single player content, fighting games would be even more niche. The fact that fighting games look so good and have so many elements in them is directly tied to the casual audience.

The casual crowd are vital to an FG's life and future.

Quite right.

Yeah.

I love the FGC and am a "competitive" player, but without casual players, the only thing I'd have to play right now would be Persona 5.

I love fighting games as a kid, but had no one to play with and no access to online matches. Single player modes kept my hype alive until I was able to really get involved.

Same situation for me too. Loved playing flashy fighting games but never had people to play against, certainly not people who knew how to do more than j.hk xx sweep in Street Fighter ( not that there's anything wrong with that but still).

Playing SFV online has really helped awaken my competitive spirit, and I'm gonna be branching out into as many different fighting games as I can, starting with IJ2 and T7.

This.

Tekken's amazing and some say it's due to the gameplay and all but part of the reason it's amazing is due to the modes it gives you mixed in with customization. That extra content helps. I don't care if it's a fighting game. The fighting's just as much of a medium as the shooting mechanics in a shooter. People need to stop bitching about expecting more towards fighters this day and age for the average consumer. NRS does amazing in their fighters and honestly, I think I'll pick this up Friday. I'm saying this purely off the fact they put out quality and how much time I spend on their games. I spent a massive amount of time on MKX and MK9 and I borrowed Injustice 1 from my brother. I gotta give them props.

One common complaint I don't fully understand is people complaining when a new NRS game is made after the last one is complete. Like, the community just jumps to the new title and there is a ton of new content to go through. How is that a bad thing? Are they just supposed to sell you one game and then just quit?

In MKX's case, I believe a lot of players like where the game is at right now and would prefer to have it still be relevant for a few more years. That's not NRS's problem, though, just the nature of the beast.

There's nothing wrong with that and it definitely keeps things fresh but from the point of view of a tourney player that wants the game they're playing to grow more, it can be demoralizing at times.

If someone liked IJ more than Mortal Kombat, or vice versa, they're screwed when the next game comes around cause their preferred game's community will start to die.

Lmao, I love a good meltdown. He won't be missed.

If there's a bunch more praise while he can't post, it's going to cut him deep and probably cause a mental breakdown down.

I recall Ed Boon talking about "overlapping support" in regards to IJ2 and MKX. I'm hoping they continue supporting it before jumping to MK11.

I wish they would've put more thought and care into the animations and gameplay like in their x-ray and presentation.

I mean look at this?

Does this look exciting in any shape or form?

The production value seems insane here for a FG. Capcom should learn from NRS on how to make a FG in today's world. If only the gameplay in NRS games were smooth and not clunky.

Just watched the Giant Bomb Quick Look of this and I am super impressed. I don't play fighting games at all, but I am now contemplating picking this up. Something that I can play exclusively solo, with a ton content and time to get better, goes a loooong way for me.

Do you think that video is representative of how the game is played?

I could post video of fireball spams in other games and call that "gameplay" but that would be pretty disingenuous of me.

As an offline gamer craving the single player content, my only issue is Injustice and Tekken coming out in such close proximity to each other. Tekken is my childhood favourite but IJ2 just looks so damn tempting...

Of course Sonic fox abuses this to the fullest and this does not represent the whole game but you're missing the point.

The question is why did they not fix this before release?

It's ridiculously good and who knows when that will be fixed.

I don't like Neatherrealm lack of polish in that regard.

They added a universal meter burn roll to deal with zoning

I'm seeing more commentary on Injustice 2's animation and movement more than any other NRS game these past 7 years since MK9. You then factor in that video that's made rounds about their titles and the animation? People always rag on them for that animation but with all this static, I think that's NRS's next task. They know they can do the single-player content, they've got the netcode down so now their next step is to fix that animation.

Production values in story mode are kind of blowing my mind. I rewatched the first injustice story mode on YouTube yesterday and it's like night and day in terms of cutscenes quality, facial animation, voice direction etc

SonicFox is a league above random players on the internet.

This looks more like character unfamiliarity than "THIS IS BROKEN PLZ FIX." It's the first day. How do we know it's something that needs to be fixed?

Yeah. The production values are blowing my mind. I can't get over how good it really is. I don't care for the input buffer and having to commit to combos before actually seeing them connect. That lack of flexibility along with much-maligned stiffness of animation prevents the game from feeling fluid to me. It just puts me off. However, I still cannot deny that NRS really takes a lot of criticism to heart and they will improve.

Wanted to get back in to Fighting Games, but seeing as I'm a casual when it comes those kind of games Street Fighter V was a bad choice for me to try Fighting Games out again this gen. Gonna keep this one on my radar, maybe I'll download the first Injustice, seeing as it was a PS Plus game a while back on PS4.

I secretly hope that every character has something broken in every new fighting game. I know it's a pipe dream, another casualty of esports. Can't have ridiculous moves that are almost impossible to deal with, they all have to be 'balanced' for fairness.

Killer Instinct went for something like this. Didn't QUITE get there, but certainly made a valiant effort at it.

why do the characters still do the thing where they get ko'd only to get back up and then fall back down to the ground? no amount of money will make NRS games look less stiff and not poorly animated.

One of the reasons why I don't like Injustice. They were already knocked out so why get back up again? Makes no sense.

The game that bugs me is SFV, they went in the completely opposite direction. Removing iframes from DPs? It's Street Fighter. If anyone enters the air or pressing buttons on wakeup, shoryuken. Simple, done.

Does the Tournament scene even matter? The FGC has walls seemed like it oddly stagnates it's own genre growth.
To make money? No. SFV was a financial failure imo when compared to NRS or smash games. because they went all out esports. Capcom didn't realize that this genre is already so unappealing to the mass market that it's really hard to sell a game by making it even more exclusive.

the thing with the animations is that i dont think they portray they kind of information a FG's animations should portray very clearly.

janky animations are acceptable imo in genre where you may have to drastically cut down frame counts for gameplay reasons, ST animations sure are jittery but very communicative.
