Tennis - General Discussion

Rafa is getting over confident clowning on all these fools.

just you wait until the real number 1 comes back and put him in his place again.

Game 7 of set 2 in the Nadal vs Goffin match has some of the best sequence of points I have seen in a long time, the last 6 points were all incredible.

Bouchard bailed out of Rome...I thought those where mandatory...she would of had to qualify so the bad tongues say thats why she bailed lol...

Meanwhile,to more important things ;) Nadal,Joker semi....Nadal's got this.

i don't know the rules, so are the tournaments mandatory even if you have to go through qualifying?

and nadal doesn't seem to have much a problem with djokovic, at least in the first set. djokovic has been starting to play a bit better as the set has gone on.

So happy Nadal could get a decisive win against Djokovic today! He's played superbly throughout this clay-court season so far, but losing to Djokovic (especially the current form of Djokovic we're seeing this year) would've been a huge blow to his confidence, I think.

On a related note, I'm sad I won't be able to watch the women's final today. I'm not the biggest Halep fan (her game bores me), but I think a match between her and Mladenovic on clay should be intriguing.

So Cahill dumps Halep after Miami and then Halep goes on to win Madrid about a month later

I haven't read anything about that. Not in the romanian press anyway. She said that they had a talk after Miami that helped her het her head straight, that was all.

WTA Insider: Going back to that match in Miami, you lost that tough match to Konta where you felt like you should have closed it out. It was a similar situation here, losing a second set tiebreak and heading into a third set. How different is the Simona sitting across from me today from the one in Miami?
Halep: Now I can finally speak about this; I told you a few weeks ago that I would tell you later. Today, I thanked Darren in my speech for coming back. After Miami, he stopped working with me because he was upset about that match. It wasn't because I lost, but because of my attitude and him feeling like I gave up. That's why I started to work hard on my mentality, and my psychology.

Today, I showed it's a new Simo, that I don't give up anymore, even if I lose a close second set. It makes me proud that I was able to change this in such a short time. Now, I just want to work to keep it and make it stronger. I don't want to lose this, because my personality can be a bit crazy on court. Now I just have to stay calm because now I can see that when I'm calm, I can see the game and what my opponent is doing. That way, I can play better tennis.

fognini is murray's first opponent in rome, tough luck for the scot. of course when you actually expect something from fognini he usually plays like trash.

Niraj

I shot people I like more for less.
If Fognini wasn't an idiot he probably would have beaten Nadal in their match this week. Credit to Nadal for getting through that though and wrecking everyone else.

French Open has always been the worst open. They make no attempts at bettering their tournament with lights, shot spot, etc. Just move that slam to another country. There's too much local politicking in France to let that tournament grow.

So Kyrgios is likely to take on Grosjean as a part time coach (one that doesn't like travelling apparently). Half arsed commitment reconfirmed, I really need to stop reading anything about this guy.

Presumably due to young players getting overshadowed by the older generation that's still dominating, the ATP is starting an annual ATP finals just for players 21U. The top 8 players who are 21 and under will play in their own world tour finals starting this year in Milan. Here are the current standings.

1 GER Alexander Zverev
2 CRO Borna Coric
3 USA Frances Tiafoe
4 KOR Hyeon Chung
5 USA Ernesto Escobedo
6 RUS Daniil Medvedev
7 RUS Karen Khachanov
8 NOR Casper Ruud

9 USA Jared Donaldson
10 FRA Quentin Halys
