Yeah, it's d-pad down, but when I press it it says "Equip body gear to use gear lights." Problem is, I've been cutting up dudes left & right but still don't have enough to craft a chest piece. The only places I can go are both pitch black so IDK... I'll keep farming stuff and see if I get lucky.

Target the actual "body" part of the enemies. I fumbled a bit until I managed to get the gear lights.

Do you select the chest when you attack them and execute? That's how they drop the blueprint and resource you need to craft it.

This game is even more stingy with directions and tips than Dark Souls. I'm now on second level (some dark factory) and I have no clue where to go to proceed, feels like I've explored the entire place, even killed the
smelter
downstairs.

I'm almost done with Yakuza 0, and Prey shouldn't take too long so I just have one question. I know that it's silly to expect this to be as good as From's games so I just need to know if it's better than Lords. A simple yes or no is all I need.

Don't the walls have pictures on them that show you envionmentally where to go ? (I've only played for an hour but it seemed like that when playing)

Huh, is the 2ND level supposed to be really dark because I'm playing with my brightness slider up and it looks nicely lit atm.

Edit: Oh, that was a pit of darkness and not a lower level lol.

I have no idea how I triggered the first boss.

I kept running around in the first area and until for some the boss showed up. I was like "oh there is a boss here!"

Second area is dope. I just found out you can add weapons to the quick change by favoriting them.

I love weakening enemies with my main weapon and the using the dual swords to finish them

Having lots of fun with the game. Hard AF though and I've done Nioh, Souls, etc.

You turned on the main power on the power plant which then activated security because the whole factory was on lockdown

I thought I was going crazy, good to know I'm not the only one. Must've gone through the courtryard several times and at some point the boss fight just started.

I usally dislike slow and heavy weapons in melee action games but this game is an exeption. I am rocking it with the robot leg.

One thing I can say thus far that I really love is the country music that plays at the medbay. I'm from the south, and even though I never really listen to it at all even casually there's something infinitely easing and nostalgic about hearing country music.

Yeah I loved it too, and a surprise since expected futuristic synth music

Man this game really looks great. I think I'll have to check it out. Came outta nowhere! Hadn't heard of it before this week.

Anyone tried out light vs heavy frame when you choose at the beginning? Do they feel significantly different?

The enemies in the first area drop the parts to craft both sets, so it really doesn't matter which you chose, you can easily try both.

Beat P.A.X. after about 10 tries...knew what to do but just doing it right was the problem

oh well, it's done now

I only have 1 little area left in the opening stage and I'll be done with everything I can do there that's not walled off by needing a higher level or otherwise

You must be lucky, I'm mostly done with area 2 and only have two pieces of the heavy set.

Is blocking basically useless in this game? I still take significant damage while blocking, and for some reason it seems like I can only duck/jump once during each block.

I can't seem to figure out how to get the DLC or preorder Rigs. I got the weapon and the items but don't see the Rigs at all. Am I stupid or just missing something?

Luck doesn't have anything to do with it. Enemies seem to have fixed loot, just target the bit you want and cut it off.

This is so much better than LOTF and the 60fps is glorious. I am having some trouble with the first boss. I have been one shot (stomped?) a couple times. Gave up to go to bed. There is the one yellow enemy past the poison, does killing give anything good? I can't seem to defeat it.

You target the piece of loot you want on an enemy(they need to be armored), hack away at that piece until you build up enough energy for an execution and then execute that limb.

It doesn't always work, but it does work most of the time. It's pretty easy to get the gear.

Just bought this. Haven't started yet but am already happy because someone made a different and competent souls like game. I've seen some of the criticisms for this but since it seems to have turned out better than LotF I hope they stick with it and make a sequel that improves on this. Namely from what I've seen without playing, more bosses and more varied and amazing looking environments, and character creator would be welcome improvements.

for the angry bulldozer just try to keep strafing around it so you don't get hit by it's claw and jump away when it's about to stomp itself down...hit the parts on its side...it's worth 3,000 scrap and there's a couple of items in that little area

Oh boy the enemies in the second area sure don't fuck around.
managed to kill those two security guards near ops too. The staff they drop is fucking badass

TIL combos cost significantly less stamina if you time the button presses correctly.

Quite the contrary, blocking is monstrously strong against single hit attacks, makes the dual wield enemies a piece of cake since they like to use their dash poke so god damn much. Block=>riposte=>ded

Against very high or very low attacks, however, such as the hammer attack animation or the cattle prod dash poke, the game expects you to dodge under or over the moves. Is a clever system which becomes considerably easier if one is familiar with the enemy's weapon moveset

You can force a save by quitting to the menu as well.
Thought so, because the game doesn't give you the typical "progress lost" message upon quitting to the start screen.
So... I've never really given a soulsbourne type game a fair chance. I've always found them frustrating to play, and the oppressive atmospheres don't help me out much. Just way too stressful. This comes around and the sci-fi setting appeals to me much more, so I'm giving it a shot.

2 hours in - I'm learning the ropes and grinding that first area, but this is the first time a soulsbourne game has actually been fun for me. I'm almost waiting for some kind of rage-quit inducing difficulty spike to pop up, but for now, it's comfortably challenging.
Exactly how I feel.
Slowdown on hits really help make the blows feel heavy.
I enabled the slowdown option for every hit. Nice sense of visual feedback upon hitting an enemy pretty hard.

BTW for the Irina side quest, I failed to get the staff she wanted at first but after the 2ND boss encounter, after you defeat it. A staff she'll accept is in the room next to the EXIT sign.

Anyways just made it to the 3rd level medbay, Enjoy the challenge the game is providing.

Halfway home.

Some enemies are crazy (second level spoilers), like the
spider ones and the three legged ones that set themselves on fire
.

The second level is also fucking huge.

Man, I'm pretty disappointed in this game after some early positive reception and even some good reviews. My experience with Lords of the Fallen isn't great -- I bought it and disliked it, so I figured this was an opportunity to give these guys a second chance. If it even matters, I'm a souls veteran, and I'm not really having any trouble with the game at this point difficulty-wise (On the fourth boss, however far that is into the game).

My biggest critique of it would be that I think it's dreadfully boring. Environments in these kinds of games are extremely, extremely important to not only the enjoyment of one's first run through (and of course, keeping subsequent playthroughs interesting). What I've seen so far is extraordinarily boring industrial design; and it's not the fact that every environment has a consistency to it that is bad. For example, a lot of the environments in Bloodborne felt tonally consistent to me; they are all dark and creepy gothic / lovecraftian worlds, but they evolve over time, making every area feel unique and driving the experience forward. You can easily build mental maps of these worlds into your head thanks to many instances of landmarks. Here, it's boring sci-fi hallway after boring sci-fi hallway. The way the environments are chained together is through non-descript hallways that all look essentially the same. There's nothing *in* the environments themselves that makes one wonder, or want to know more. I couldn't get interested in the world at all, and world-building is one of my favorite aspects of these games.

The combat here is equally dull, even if the mechanics behind how you level are novel-if-limiting. Enemies themselves have the *worst* tells I've seen in a game like this, making a player want to choose the safe strategies even if those strategies make the game more boring. When enemies do hit you, it's not with a satisfying thunk -- sometimes you can't even tell they made contact at all, with the dropping health bar the only indication that something has happened. Many enemies are unsatisfying to even fight, leading the player to avoid them at all times (and it is extraordinarily easy to avoid them -- Nioh this is not! They will stop chasing sometimes feet away from where you met them in battle). The worst are the many one-shot style enemies in the game; in most good games of this variety, big attacks have big tells. Here, don't be surprised if you die from the simplest-looking attack. The lack of inv frames overall can make this a frustrating experience for people who haven't gotten used to dying in other games like this. Except, in those games, it often feels 'tough but fair' -- here, enemies range from boring to fight to exceptionally cheesy.

Build variety is something I like in this kinds of games, and it's not here. Simply put, this is closer to Bloodborne, but perhaps even worse; differentiation comes from weapon and suit choices and nothing more. I'm sure someone will find this to be tenable, but for me it's just disappointing.

Bosses are, and I have to stress this, *horrible*. Complete piles of actual garbage, all of them gimmick bosses (with the exception of perhaps the one I'm fighting now, though even he has a gimmick component). Once you know their weakness, they are completely trivialized. This would be fine, except the lead up to them (the levels themselves) are so boring.

And fuck, I hate to shit on this game completely because there are 3 or 4 things it does that are brilliant. But the rest of the game ... feels like a complete waste of money and time :\ My dreams for a unique sci-fi Souls-esque game are in another castle.

Spoo, could you please elaborate on the 3-4 things it does brilliantly?

Not to discount your post - I think your impressions are perfectly valid, and will be what makes or breaks this game for quite a few people. I'm just curious as it seems you know what you like when it comes to this type of game.

Sure. For one, I actually like the mods systems it has. It's not necessarily new or unique, but basically it does make you choose the kind of upgrades you think are necessary given the situation (sometimes stacking tons of heals, other times picking one or two to aid in exploration, etc.) It's not super different from how DS3 for example will let you juggle mana potions with estus, but it's a bit more full-bodied.

In combat, the executions are really nice, and they play into the limb mechanic of the game which I also find to be a cool thing. Basically, I like finding blueprints by killing the enemies correctly instead of relying on RNG or vague exploration (there is, I think, *some* RNG, but not really noticeable).

And a big plus, 60 fps. Hats off to them for making it a reality; the game isn't especially pretty or anything, so it was an achievable thing, but considering how many devs leave it as an afterthought you gotta give them credit. Performance of the game is consistent and makes the combat feel responsive (even when, sadly, it's sometimes not).

That's about it. Everything else I really, really don't like.

edit: I don't want my post to make or break people's decision on the game. Lots of people are having fun with it, and reviews apparently aren't bad -- I think it just misses the forest for the trees in a lot of the things that make Souls-like games so memorable and fun to play. My opinion is just *1* opinion.

Yes, I didn't like Lords of the fallen but this is much better.
