The biggest difference between the two is that people aren't bringing briefcases of money to airports to pick up MVS games.

Not yet, anyways. Thank you elder gods of Neo Geo for that, as an MVS owner.

Rolled out the Toshiba CRT in front of my friggin 60 inch UHD TV (wish I took a pic) to play some SNES and Neo Geo yesterday with a friend. First time playing VS Neo Turf Masters, holy crap is that game fun. The putting is a bitch though, until you start factoring in the grain and learn that the suggested power level isn't necessarily what you should aim for.

Also got Chomakaimura on Super Famicom and Ghost n Goblins on Genesis last week. These games are fun as hell and are just challenging enough to not rage at.

I thought AES carts with box and artwork were the more expensive. From what I gather the AES cart scene is only for those with a healthy disposable income, that's what has made "consolised" MVS boards with a unibios so popular, as the MVS carts are cheaper to acquire.

From what I understand, carts have sold for as much as $50,000. Aero Fighters 3 sold for like 20 or 30k.

The games are the same between both though, as long as you have the unibios.

he's pretty much saying that =)

it's been awhile but grabbed a few titles the past week:

I've reported listings in the past and never seen any change. Doubt eBay cares until someone buys and complains, unfortunately.

It really, really bothers me that ebay/paypal are super fucking strict about modchips and mods and in many cases you can have you account flagged or banned for just using the word "mod" in your listing but if you sell actual pirate bootleg stuff, especially if you're not making it clear that it's not an original game, doesn't even seem to matter to them.

So these CMC Pro branded Taiyo Yuden discs seem to have done the trick for my PS1.

I also tried my recently purchased Verbatims across three different old disc drives (a lightly used LG combo DVD/CD drive circa 2004, a new-old-stock LG CD-RW drive circa 2006, and a Sony CD-RW drive circa 2000) and on all I got some weird results for Star Ocean 2. I'm thinking Verbatim CDs have gone down in quality since I've never seen it this bad.

Nice. Taiyo Yuden CDs were the only thing that worked for me, too. I think it's specifically the pressing and the temperament of the PlayStation, since I can use the cheapest drugstore cdrs for the Saturn and Sega CD with no issue at all.

Anyways, glad that worked out for you.

Yeah it's always confused me how those rules are enforced. Especially since modded gameboys seem to be exempt?

TBH, it isn't the worst, but it takes some getting used to since the game is designed for a analog stick and the DS doesn't have that.

I remember a Retronauts podcast where Parish said playing it on 3DS was great, with the thumb slider. He said it's definitely the way to play this version.

I would bang a hot farmer!

I never thought of going back to play SM64DS on the 3DS but playing it on the DS with the thumb strap wasn't horrible. Hell, I got all 150 stars in it without problem back then.

It's easier on the 3DS just cause 3D movement with a d-pad in general is pretty bad but it's still only 8-directions even with the slider and it feels a lot different from the n64 version.

I also don't like that game so TBH I'm not the best source for that info.

is it still 8-way if you control it with the touch screen?
No, then it's effectively analogue. I played it on the OD DS with the thumb strap thing, which created a semi-passable analogue stick emulation. The only problem then was the position was uncomfortable.

Strange times thinking back on that.

is it that bad?

Yes. It's not worth playing in my opinion. The beauty of SM64 is the freedom of movement and the silky smooth controls. The great level designs are great precisely because of how it feels to navigate them with an N64 controller. I'd go so far to say that the controller and the game were combined to be experienced together, and a touchscreen or D-Pad is no substitute.

They absolutely were.

Was going to quote and say the exact same thing.

It was the game that introduced us to the true joy of analog controls. I had an analog stick for my PC (you had to calibrate it every time you used it, and it had physical slider switches on the axis) back in the day that were supported by flight sims.

But the analog walking and circling was a whole other thing. The controls on that game were more impressive than the camera was busted.

It really is impossible to get a good quality genesis 1 ac adapter these days.

Retro game supply has failed me now too. They shipped an adapter that makes the system reset randomly between 10 seconds to 2 minutes into a game and the power brick gets hot to the touch after a half hour of use.

Hope they give a refund.

I've been using my original genesis power brick for 20 minutes with no issue (other than the sound buzz that was the whole reason I bought a new power supply) so I know my console isn't dying yet.

Guess I'm waiting for August to hope that custom 3-in-1 cable that my life in gaming suggested works.

Danny Dudekisser

I paid good money for this Dynex!
My water cooling stuff gets here on Thursday, meaning I'll be able to finally rebuild my computer and have it beasted the fuck out. I know this isn't retro, but I just needed someone to talk to :(

any chance to find an OEM adaptor in your area?

*puts hand down pants* pics/video or didn't happen

I'll take some more this weekend. I still have some things to figure out with it. Here's a few to get you started.

I also tried to play Dungeons and Dragons but it wouldn't turn on. The guy at Beep said that it might not be able to deliver enough power. I think it might be related to the JAMMA cable. The wires are pretty thin.

That sucks, I'm sorry that didn't work for you. :(

I'm sure you just want to wait for the 3-in-1 cable, now, but - in case you didn't return Retro Game Supply's power brick yet - keep in mind you can replace the brick itself, as it's generally detatchable from the cables, and it's a pretty standard one too.
I accidentally dropped my 2-in-1, recently, so I brought it to a battery shop in town, checked all the values, polarity and connections, and got a new power unit to use with Retro Game Supply 2-in-1 cables attachment.

It wont be bacause the wires are too thin but because the board requires more juice than the psu is currently providing. Is there no way of adjusting the 5v or do you have a way of measuring what voltage the board is receiving?

its imporant to remember that under load ie turned on each pcb will need adjusting to get a steady 5v, its a good idea to buy a couple of francob voltmeters for this purpose, they go between the game board and the loom so you can actually see what voltage the board is using rather than what the psu says its outputting.

My harness included that. It said it was outputting 5.1V. All I'm getting is a blue-green screen. There's an LED that I remember lighting up when I plug it in that isn't turning on also.

i get a blue-green screen with my cps2 mobo but only when there is no cartridge connected, it could just be a bad connection, try reseating the board.

unless there is a fault with the pcb it just sounds like you need to slightly up the power, i assume the psu is adjustable?

I'll try that this weekend. It worked fine in my cabinet a few months ago. I've been rearranging everything a lot lately so it could definitely be making a poor connection.

I haven't looked too much at the internals of my supergun yet but I think it's adjustable. Everything else is.

Does your Supergun have a built-in PSU, Laevateinn?

I just picked up the 'HAS v3' Supergun from a user (RGB) over at Arcade-Projects, but I'm still waiting on a proper PSU. I kind of want to go with an ATX PSU, but it doesn't leave many options if I have to adjust the levels at all. Switching PSU's are inexpensive, but they always look like a fire hazard to me...

total random OT not game related
since talking about macross that led to Saturn shooter last week, i thought to post this bc it looks so amazing, just got it last night:
anyways, back to retrogaming this week,
i picked up a few lowly ps2 titles but nothing special. kingdom hearts II and a few others.

It does. It looks like a smaller version of the power supply I have in my cabinet.

Looks sick.

Hopefully retrogaf won't mind me indulging a bit in this OT, but that reminded me of a toy shop in town, from when I was a kid. Such an oddball store, as it had all the mainstream/official toys from that era (and I'm talking about original Masters of the Universe figures, Diaclone and first wave of Transformers, when they weren't even called Transformers yet), plus random import stuff, which was usually extremely expensive.

Well, I clearly remember them having a couple of huge Valkyries, once again, way before Robotech was brought to TV here in Italy. They were proper sexy stuff - super detailed and so exotic, in their fully Japanese packages... Kinda like the Soul of Chogokin sets of nowadays, only bigger - and I'm sure they could transform as well, because they were displayed in robot form, inside the box, but there were pictures showing the jet/bipedal configurations too. Man, I wanted one so badly, but I guess the prices were truly outrageous (I remember getting Castle Grayskull, that Christmas, which made me assume the Valkyries must've been even more expensive).

get a quality psu like the below and you will be fine, this one was recommended to me by RGB and unlike others i have used in the past does not get remotely warm even after hours of play.

http://eu.suzohapp.com/product/42PP0606/15-amp-powersupply-

atx are more convenient and safer if you have kids or curious animals roaming about but the adjustability of the 5v on a propper arcade psu makes them a must imho.

There's a chain in the us called batteries plus.

It seems like they might be missing a big opportunity by not offering recap and reconditioning services for old game consoles..

Transformers made the original jetfire 1980's from that toy.

the arcadia/yamato VF-1 i posted is 1/60 scale and currently the pinnacle of VF-1 designs, check 'em out if you're planning on getting one =)

you know i'm looking over ebay for a Super Famicom copy of Macross: Scrambled Valkyrie
and found a repro translation:

Are you using a Pandora or the CPS2 pcb? (I'm guessing something along the lines of Pandora if I believe your 161 in 1 cart)

Some versions of Pandora have a corrupted D&D romset

The 161 in 1 is a cheap chinese neo geo cart. My D&D is a CPS2 pcb. I've played it without issue in my cabinet but its monitor is shot.
