Chris Cornell (Audioslave, Soundgarden) has died

The thing with Staley and Weiland is that they were so self destructive for so long, that their young deaths had a "cushion" of being expected, at least I was "mentally prepared" for their passings. This one is just out of nowhere, his demons never really bleeding into his professional/public life, it makes it tougher to get it out of my head.

Created a Cornell playlist on Spotify and listened to it all damn day yesterday. Now listening to all his live acoustic performances. Goddamn he was so fucking talented. This is hitting me harder than I expected. That Fell on Black Days acoustic performance is haunting.

I'll never forget seeing him live during the first Audioslave album days.

Don't forget to add Seasons from the Singles soundtrack, Temple of the Dog, and Whole Lotta Love with Santana. I would add Right Arm by Alice Mudgarden from AIC SAP but for some reason Spotify doesn't have that one.

(I did the same as you with Spotify)

Isn't Chester from Linkin Park godfather to one of Cornells kids which why that performance has some major emotion behind it. Not a Linkin Park fan but that performance was good

There's several tributes out there in the related videos section on YouTube. All of them really thoughtful or at least showing a basic level of respect and then there is Joe Rogan who has the worst kind of discussion I could think of. Really crap to put it lightly. It's just borderline meathead nonsense.

Fantastic performances. I believe Redemption Song was on a live album called Unplugged in Sweden, iTunes doesn't seem to have it though. I've started going through all the albums I have in chronological order. I started with Screaming Life/Fopp, then Ultramega OK, and just finished Louder Than Love. So many great tracks. I'd name off some favorites but it's too hard to narrow them down. I will say that his vocals toward the end of Smokestack Lightning have always been a highlight for me.

Absolutely an uplifting song, instantly puts me in a good mood. Amazing song

When I'm down

https://youtu.be/28eHgulpnUk

My all time favorite Chris Cornell song. Absolutely amazing song.

Well I know you're reaching out
And you need to feel my hand
You want to be understood, yeah well I understand

I know you hold precious little hope for me
And in your hapiness
I'm always drowning in my grief

And I only love you when I'm down
And I'm only near you when I'm gone
But one thing for you to keep in mind, you know
I'm down all the time
All the time, all the time, all the time

Fuck man I can't believe he's dead

What's crazy about those vocals at the end of Smokestack is that there is a live version sounds even better

Man this morning I thought I was starting to feel a bit better, but listening to Temple of the Dog just destroyed me. This is gonna hurt for a long time.

Rolling Stone: Tom Morello's Poem for Chris Cornell
You're a prince, you're a snare, you're a shadow

You're twilight and star burn and shade

You're a sage, you're a wound shared, you're masked

You're a pillar of smoke, you're a platinum heart

You're a brush fire, you're caged, you're free

Your vision pierces, you do not see

You are pieces strewn on the hillside

You're open armed, you're armed, you're true

You're a revealer of visions, you're the passenger, you're a never fading scar

You're twilight and star burn and shade

You're the secret veiled, you're the secret revealed, you're surrounded no more

You're not there, now you're always here

You're a handsome groom, a loving father, a haunted stairwell

You're the clear bell ringing, the mountains echo your song

Maybe no one has ever known you

You are twilight and star burn and shade

The local alt radio station was doing a tribute to him and playing a bunch of Cornell songs and they played a couple from some temple of the dog album. I have only heard a few soundgarden and Audioslave tracks. And of course the casino Royale theme song, but I think I'll check that album out on Apple music this weekend. The tracks were dope

...and that, kids, was the first time I sucked a dick for crack

Okay, this is choking me up a little again. Especially that Audioslave pic. Chris just looks so alive, mid-air, ready to rock the fuck out. His energy was reinvigorated with Audioslave, it allowed him to continue that journey and bring back SG.

The Temple of the Dog album is incredible. Absolutely required listening.

I've been listening to Temple of the Dog ALL DAY. Still to this day my favorite album with Chris Cornell singing.

Rest in peace.

"Now I've got room to spread my wings and my messages of Love. Yes love was my drug, but that's not what I died of, so don't think of me crying louder than some billion dollar baby." - CC

I dug up a bunch of playlists I made back in high schoo/college.

There's so much Cornell and Bowie..... :(

Dear God. Please keep Thom Yorke safe. And Bono.

Been humming and quietly singing sound garden and cc songs to myself all throughout day. I love so many of these songs so much, but haven't had a proper listening session for quite a while. These are the songs I would just have on repeat while chilling in my room looking up at the ceiling or noodling on my guitar, and it's quite a feeling to listen to them now.

I was never big on Audioslave, but Soundgarden had some amazing songs that I grew up listening to. His death was really surprising to me. It wasn't the constant, depressing, drug addicted downfall that you saw from Weiland. He had some of the most amazing vocals from that era and I'm sad to see him go.

Mixed feelings about this.

On the one hand he was an amazing artist.

On the other, he just left an 11 year old, a 12 year old, and a 17 year old without a father.

Depression effects you in strange ways. You no longer understand that people care about you. You find no worth in yourself. You see no happiness anymore. You don't even know what to search for to make you happy. Taking your own life isn't some easy decision, it's a last resort from those feelings when you feel there is no where to go.

I'll be honest I never really liked Soundgarden, but I never once questioned their integrity or musicianship. They were, and will forever be, an integral part of 90's rock. Rest in power Chris.

Yeah, Temple of the Dog is my favourite thing Cornell did. It was created because of a great loss in the Seattle scene and it shows. You can just feel the raw emotion in the songs.

ERMYGERD!
I still can't believe how much this impacted me. With the passing of other icons, I felt sad, but I quickly moved on. This one struck, deep.
