Rumor: Square Enix Seeking Developers for Numbered Game of “Super-Famous” RPG Series

He will work on the concepts of towns, fields, dungeons, background props like furniture and emblems, vehicles, weapons, items and map icons.

Doesn't sound like a Mana title since there weren't many "vehicles" in the series.

"Map icons" makes me think they already have some idea of the gameplay even if the game hasn't entered full production.

This doesn't sound like a rumor. There's definitely a job posting for a video game, lol. Guessing it as FF16 though? That would prolly piss me off since S-E should've had 16 in development long ago, but at least it's starting now.

Who wants to bet we see a pre-rendered trailer before the year's out if this is true? S-E loves announcing projects before they're anywhere close to completion.

The "rumor" part is the developer being SE. We 99.9% know that it's SE but it's technically yet to be confirmed.

Guessing they'll do a demo like with XV since that was such a big success and let them gather feedback on the gameplay.

Might as well through out my own, completely unlikely scenario.

Front Mission 6 YAY!

I don't really get why people want a new Chrono game so bad.

Trigger was a perfect one-off. It did everything it needed to do from gameplay to story. Cross had some strengths like the presentation but it was ultimately a bit unnecessary. It kinda shat on Trigger's story in a lot of ways.

And I don't why people would want Square-Enix of today to touch it. Most of the people who made Trigger (aka the Dream Team) have long moved on, haven't they? I recall hearing Yuji Horii in particular wasn't interested in returning to it.

If it isn't a sequel to one of these, then I can't imagine what it could possibly be.

Jesus Christ, GAF. I know many posts here aren't serious but some of you are.

Post clearly said "super famous". Secret of Evermore, Vagrant Story, Musashi, Valkyrie Profile, and The Bouncer are not super famous. Hell theyre not even "famous".

If it's Square Enix in Japan and it's a super famous numbered entry of an RPG series it can't be anything but FF or DQ.

Why is Square so scared of Chrono...

The same reason Valve is scared of Half Life 3.

Its been so long now, that they know they can't live up to the hype.

I love Chrono Trigger. If I can't get a Chrono Trigger 2, then honestly, I'll gladly take a CT remake in any form.

But an honest remake. Not the same fucking snes rom but for the switch.

Quite frankly, the only Chrono related news I'd like to hear is Square-Enix re-releasing the original unaltered version of Chrono Trigger for the 3DS/Switch Virtual Console. Wasn't a big fan of the changes/additions in the DS version, so having the game in its pure untouched state on the go would be pretty sublime for me.
