Chris Cornell (Audioslave, Soundgarden) has died

...and that, kids, was the first time I sucked a dick for crack
I still can't believe how much this impacted me. With the passing of other icons, I felt sad, but I quickly moved on. This one struck, deep.

Same. Robin Williams was extremely upsetting for me, but Cornell took it to another level. I don't think I've ever cried over an artists death before

I didn't cry but I'm a lot more upset than I thought I'd be. Like it's just so shitty that talented 90s Seattle musicians dying is a trend, carrying into 2017 even. It's like a sick joke. Chris is the most talented frontman of the Seattle bands. And I don't think he or Soundgarden get enough credit; everyone calls them grunge and they were sometimes, but they were also one of those bands that took things to a whole new level in the rock sphere. You listen to a song like Head Down and you realize that mainstream bands today have no concept of the complexity and depth their predecessors had.

Seems weird that he'd kill himself given what his wife said. His meds may have pushed him over the edge and he lost control of himself...

He was also just a great guy who loved his family. You've got people from Elton John to Chuck D to Megadeth to Jimmy Page to some country singer I've never heard of impacted by this news. Just a huge loss for music.

Listened to Badmotorfinger this morning. So many good tracks on there, but I'd like to mention Searching With My Good Eye Closed. It's really strange (in a good way) how it starts out with the see and say toy stuff:

This is my good eye
Do you hear a cow?
The rooster says:
Here is a pig:
The devil says:

And then Chris comes in with this dual-layered vocal, in one ear is this demon-like growl, and in the other this banshee wail and it builds to a crescendo. Probably one of my favorite moments on the album.

I don't remember half the time if I'm hiding or I'm lost, but I'm on my way...

I seeded a Pandora station this morning with just Chris Cornell, and it's been amazing. It has been playing mostly slower stuff from his bands, plus the more emotionally charged songs from PJ, AIC, and other Seattle scene artists from the 90s.

I don't know if or when this will become less depressing but listening to his music has been helping. What an epic loss to the music world.

Read up on some of the new details on his final few hrs.

Man, that was hard to read. Sounds like the ativan had an effect for sure. It also sounds like if his bodyguard would have kicked in the doors even a few minutes sooner, he might have survived. :(

I've been feeling like utter shit since the news broke. Can't remember the last time a death of a non-relative hit me so damn hard. It's just so damn sad...

Slaves and bulldozers is one of the most vocally impressive songs in rock history. Gives me chills Everytime I hear it!

Agree. I fondly remember the signs people were holding up with that particular song during their reunion tour in Berlin. Then they played it finally during the encore. They also played Beyond the Wheel. There's just nothing like it.

Man I forgot how great Incessant Mace is. The live version that was performed on Letterman is fucking incredible.

It's so weird that it's already been 2 days since the news broke. Still doesn't feel real to me

Thanks for sharing, that is pretty good indeed.

If I pulled that off, would you die?

An that outro... Cornell's vocal power was impeccable.

In an Instagram post, Brad Wilk wrote about Cornell:

The sadness of you leaving I can not begin to describe here. So close to home. I was in awe of your talent. The time I was able to spend with you, which was not enough, I will forever cherish. At your core you were a smart, sweet and gentle soul. This is how I will always remember you. Love you Chris.🖤 Hard to believe this picture marks the last time I will ever see you here on earth.

Their (Audioslave) last gig from January 2017.

Seasons was my favorite song that was just Chris. It is part of the reason why I can never hate Man of Steel like a lot do. Hearing that song come out of nowhere was like a light into my soul.

Hearing someone like Josh Klinghoffer sing it obviously doesn't do it justice, but it was the thought that counted. Got me back to square one with my grief.

I've resolved I'm going to be able to play and sing the song competently this year.

Fuckign heartbreaking but I'm feeling the love. A ton of awesome artists paying tribute. Aerosmith, Corey Taylor, RHCP, Megadeth, plus others if you google on youtube.

It's cool that we can see all of these tributes these days since everyone has a camera on them. This is the first time I can remember this happening all over the place like this.

Sad, but fitting, because his tributes to Whitney Houston and Prince were some of the first videos of this type I can remember seeing.

suicide is devastating enough, the thought of it being some spur of the moment thing based on a couple pills and a bad night is unbelievably sad

I stumbled across this one while watching so many great tributes on youtube last night. I wasn't familiar with Mike Love before this, but I found the cover very touching. The emotion cuts right through, of the best I've heard so far.

Chris was such a huge part my youth musically, that whole scene really. Under different circumstances, I would have been at that final concert the other night (live ~10 miles away from the Fox Theatre). I don't know how to feel about that right now, the whole thing is still hard to believe.

Lithium replayed the Chris Cornell Artist Confidential. It was so good. He shared so many interesting things about himself and his career. His cover of Nothing Compares 2 U is phenomenal!

Played through the Temple of the Dog 25th anniversary remaster with the bonus tracks yesterday. A couple of my favorite tracks from the album that don't seem to get as much attention are Call Me a Dog and Four Walled World. I find them to be kind of sad, but beautiful. Seemingly both about disappointing the woman you love. "You call me a dog/but when it's my time to throw the next stone I'll call you beautiful" - "I won't see nothing tonight but the tears in her eyes and my four walled world" I just really love those songs.

Also in the bonus tracks Angel of Fire and Black Cat are a couple of cool additions. I like listening to all the demos, outtakes and alternate mixes. In fact, I think I like the alternate mix of Say Hello 2 Heaven better than the album version. It takes out the drums and makes the song more... mellow? If that's the right way to put it.
It's beautiful.

Tonight and tomorrow will be the Superunknown 20th anniversary set. Anybody else have this?

I just remembered the song Chris recorded called I Promise it's not Goodbye. It was a poem written by a fan who had cancer and had lost his young daughter to the same type cancer. Chris met with him a few times and asked if he could put this poem to music. It's a beautiful and powerful song.

man....

I just looked this story up because I hadn't heard about it. Unless I'm looking at the wrong thing, it looks like the older son also had the same brain tumor and passed just a few months ago. The poor mom....that's just devastatingly sad....

This is the first time a musician's death has really hit me hard. Been listening to him for 25 years. By far my favorite voice of any modern day singer. I can listen to "Getaway Car" on repeat for hours. Lemmy, Bowie, Weiland, Cornell, it's been a rough couple years.

Loved his little collaboration with Alice in Chains on the SAP album.

Not easy stealing Staley's thunder.

I picked up AIC's greatest hits album on a whim years ago because I was familiar with some of their work and liked what I knew of it. Never heard Right Turn until then.

When Chris came on the track I was floored, total OH SHIT moment - then it fucking ends like 30 seconds later, wtf?!

Anyway, RIP to a legend.

This is still hitting me pretty hard tbh. Soundgarden was a big escape for me as a child after my father passed away when I was 4. STP and AIC were as well, but I had resigned myself to Scott and Layne dying young with their continuous public battles, this just was so out of nowhere...feels bad man.

There has been great tribute videos, but this is something else: Living Colour tribute to Chris Cornell.

Fantastic band chose a fantastic song to tribute Chris. The moment where Corey choke up & gets emotional had me in tears.
This was absolutely amazing. I've always liked Living Colour when I've heard them, but this really opened my eyes. They still sound amazing together.

Yep same here. Lost mom at 8, listened to my sister's handmedown of Superunknown and Dirt (got others myself later), and my dad's Core & Purple.

I swear if anything happens to Trent Reznor or Josh Homme next I'm going to be completely destroyed. Chris' death is gonna take a while. I was listening to Fall to Pieces again and feeling for Scott too, that was still recent but such a tragic life with a tragic end.

To think that he may have done what he did because of a wrong dose of his medicine and not being aware of what he was doing...it's too ridiculous to wrap your head around.

I can't begin to imagine what his family must be going through, trying to make sense of what seems a cruel joke from the universe.

Brofist. I find it so sad that Chris won't be able to share his genious songwriting and singing skills anymore, it just feels so personal. I have the same with Josh Homme. Their music goes right in my feels.
