Did anyone else just watch the Injustice 2 story cutscenes on YouTube?

I dont really play fighting games anymore.

However I really like the story mode in games like Mortal Kombat, MKX, Injustice and Injustice 2.

But I couldn't justify spending full price on a game Id be playing on easy just to get through and watch the cool story mode . I dont even have ps plus at the moment I couldn't fight other people online even if I wanted.

It would be like the type of game Id play once and be forever done with it.

Now I really like the DC animated movies and watching this on YouTube was like a 3 and a half movie. I could have watched the shorter version with only the cutscenes being maybe around 2 and half hours but I wanted to see game play and the guy playing never lost a fight once so maybe he was playing on easy or did some video edits.

Anyway I enjoyed it but not enough to buy it.

There is one video with almost a million views on it.

I know a TON of people who have done this.

It actually kind of makes me angry. Because they did so much work to make the story really beautiful and interesting, and some guy on Youtube makes ad money off it and a million people just watch the story instead of buying and playing the game. Its robbing devs of their hard earned money.

If I was WB, I'd release the story cutscenes as a separate movie and DMCA takedown all the youtube cutscene compilations. This thievery has to stop.

I watched Kyle and Huber of Easy Allies play through the entire story mode. Don't care for Netherrealms brand of fighting but I can't deny that the story mode is pretty well made. Was definitely entertained.

I'm the anti-you. I won't watch the cutscenes even when I buy the game. Even Persona couldn't hold me in the story mode, I'm incapable of enjoying stories in fighting games.

If the difficulty is fucking bullshit like the first one, I might do that as well. Medium was a cakewalk and in Hard the CPU reads your mind and inputs, and everyone just juggle the fuck outta you. :(

Well congratulations! You got yourself caught!
Nah, I'm waiting for the cheap GotY edition bundle down the road to experience it myself.

Seen multiple videos of the full playthrough in my YouTube feed crop up though. Bummed it is only 3 hours or so seemingly with fights, but in line with Injustice 1 and MKX. I sort of recall Mk9 being much longer, but I could be wrong.

Agreed. Gotta figure out a new system for this

Shit, people on this very site did that lmao. Me though I haven't done it I mean I've got the game but I'll just experience it.

I haven't but as someone who doesn't play fighting games, I will. Buying a game for such a short campaign where the gameplay doesn't actually matter is such a waste of money. I would buy it if they released it as a movie though.

Are the cutscenes blocked when you stream from consoles? I don't have the patience to try and get good at fighters. I'd probably rent it to play the story since I liked mk9 slot.

Then maybe you should encourage WB to take it down. This happens with every single video game and people seem to be okay with it.

I did because don’t have a PS4 Pro yet and I refuse to play the game on Xbone due to lower resolution (900p).

Also, IJ2 will inevitably get a full content release edition down the road and I’ll just wait for that.

Gonna wait til the GOTY comes out. I'm not a fan of doing this sort of thing.

And as far as people watching the cutscenes for free online, I believe the free mobile game has all the cutscenes from the console game in its story mode. So they're already giving it away.

I uploaded the story mode to YouTube. Got a hot 4 views.

I must say though, playing it on the PS4 Pro with HDR is really impressive in a way that YouTube is completely incapable of showing. Outside of the story mode there is hours of single player content.

I was watching a let's play on twitch, but it was DSP and he was being an unfunny moron and talking over the cutscenes so I just turned it off

Clearly NetherRealm should sell a stand alone cinematics version of their games for $10 for people who hate how they play and just like the story? lol.

I would like to watch it and see if it convinces me enough to buy it, the first injustice game had a great story (hey, at least for me)

That's a shame really. :/ Fighting games like Injustice 2 with their great story content and in general wealth of single/offline player content should be supported, in the hopes of certain other fighting game developers realizing that high quality single/offline player content actually does still matter and that it sells.

Yeah I can't watch any lets plays for story if there are people talking and those are usually the most popular ones.

I am watching it from one of my favorite let's players play it, but I plan on buying the game when the complete edition comes out like I do with ever netherrealm game.

Is it thievery if WB keeps the videos up after the release date?

I think you're more upset about it then the people who actually made the game or published it.

WB could put that into theaters and it'd outperform their studio offerings since it's actually good and not a steamy mess like the movies.

They should make a quality game first.

No, never done this for any game and but i know folks who do this :(
Worst part for I2 is that shit was on YouTube almost immediately once the embargo went up.... felt gross and bizarre

Guilty as charged. I play lots of fighting games but have no desire whatsoever to play NetherRealm's games. Games that are 100% 50/50 setups aren't appealing to me at all.

It irritates me as well. It's pretty much the same thing as pirating.

I'm poor so I probably won't be able to afford this game until everyone stops playing it so I went ahead and watched it the other night.
It makes no sense that a video game's story, (a fighting game at that) is better than the entire DCEU and even a few Marvel movies.

Did this for Injustice 2 and Danganronpa 1-2 Reload recently.

Pretty much do this for games I'm sort of interested in, but not so much that I actually want to buy it and play through myself.

I wound up watching it all on youtube after I looked some things up about the game. I didn't like the pricing layout of DLC Fighter Packs, 1/3 the retail price for a couple extra fighters?
No thanks.

I'm tempted, but I won't. I'll experience the story once I own the game eventually.

I have limited funds right now, and I'm spending that money towards another fighting game that I'm interested in that needs the sales more (Tekken 7). If it weren't for that coming out, I'd have Injustice 2 right now.

I'm watching it on IGN's channel. They uploaded the entire thing on the day of the game's release if i'm not mistaken.

Edit - beaten.

I don't think I've every played a game where the cutscenes alone are worth watching. Even games with really good cutscenes, are so in the context of playing a game. Whatching them alone would do nothing but spoil the game.

I'm sure the type of people who would what a games cutscenes on YouTube are also more likely to buy something they are familiar with and contains no surprises. I believe that the popularity of this video would help the game more than hurt it.

This probably sounds blasphemous on a website like NeoGAF, but I wouldn't mind if some game developers started releasing movie versions of their games. I play a good amount of games, but not every genre is for me and not every game's mechanics appeal to me. For a few games, I might actually look into spending a bit of money if I could reward the writers and animators of those games for their work but not have to pay for the game aspect.

Here's a question - do you guys think people watching the story on YT would have bought the game just to see it?

Or does the fact they're not interested in actually playing a fighting game maybe mean this isn't losing a ton of sales?

I'm not saying which is the case, just offering a thought.

You should feel bad. I get Injustice but Danganronpa isn't that expensive and playing it for yourself adds to the experience.
