Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers - Reviews

I will still buy it. I am not just buying a game here. I am bribing Capcom to make more Switch games. That's all this is.
Lol

This is a sad state of affairs if this is the rationalization to buy a $40 barebones port of a subpar HD remix of a 25 year old game. Capcom doesn't deserve your full $40.

I watched GameXplain's video review. It's pretty clear that he isn't a big fighting game person, but the speed looks significantly better than earlier builds. It's closer to Turbo1 on ST than it was before.

Wonder if it would've made more as an eShop title for $15-20 at launch without The way of the Hado. Probably would've been the best selling eShop title for March.

LOL, wow Capcom is shameless. This is a downloadable title from 2008 packaged with a few new stuff for 40 dollars.

Injustice 2 is still the fighting game to beat for 2017. If this is what to expect from Capcom, then MVCI is fucked.

USF2 is a different beast. Its true that Capcom put minimal effort into it and are trying to get a large return but there's no proof that's what they're doing with MvCI. Just by having new characters MvCI already has way more dev time and money pumped into its development.

I still think people are sleeping on this game and will be surprised/disappointed when it does better than expected.

I think it'll make money....kind of hard not to when it basically has no new art assets and it's $40
Don't think it'll sell too well, though.

I honestly think competitive play is dead for this game, out of the gate. One of the new characters has the same kind of problem that Akuma had in ST, which made him banned.

Here is the Violent Ken conundrum:
You are 3/4 screen away from Violent Ken and he throws a LP hadouken. How do you respond?
Neutral jump? Violent Ken does a medium command dash and HP Shoryukens you out of the air.
Jump forward? Violent Ken does a medium command dash and LP Shoryukens you out of the air.
Block? Violent Ken does a medium command dash and tick throws you.
Take the hit? Violent Ken does a medium command dash and walks up to finish a combo.
Jump back? You land on the fireball.

I'm a huge SF nut. Played the hell out of this in the arcade and later on the SNES. I won't be purchasing this at the current price. Capcom has really shitted on their fighting game fans as of late.

I guess it depends on your definition of well. Game most certainly won't sell 1 mil+ but I can easily see it breaking a couple hundred thousand units, with 3-400k being the upper limit.

The game is already sold out on amazon and is selling more than preorders for Tekken 7 (which is sad to see because that game has so much more to offer).

Bah, why complain? Back in 2005, they sold Elf bowling DS for the same price hah.
Seriously, a price between 25 and 30 euros would be perfect.
Buy it guys

And it seems that it will have ~70% scores.

Just added my review.

Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers Nintendo Switch review - 3/5

http://www.theouterhaven.net/2017/05/ultra-street-fighter-ii-the-final-challengers-switch-review/

All in all, Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers is an impressive title for the Nintendo Switch. Sadly, the fact that we've seen this game several times before heavily negates its appeal. Short of adding two new characters, and the disappointing Way of the Hado mode, this is still Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix. The title is worth picking up if you enjoy fighting games, but not its current price. Definitely, wait for a sale.

Price is too high.

Nintendo and Capcom are banking on such a low supply of games selling this.

I'll entertain $15 on the eShop this Winter.

I think you summed up pretty much right there why it will make money. Capcom didn't want to assume a lot of risk in their first Switch title with the currently relatively low install base and recent trends of 3rd party titles not selling well on Nintendo titles. How do you minimize that risk? Make something that's low investment and sell it at a premium price to an audience with a lot of other options.

I imagine Capcom will at least break even off this title, but I don't think this is a signal of any greater investment in Switch from them. If they really wanted to make a top effort in a fighting game on Switch, they would port over Ultimate MVC3 along with the PS4/Steam/Xbone re-releases or work on a version of SF4 or 5 for Switch.

I hope the game doesn't sell shit and get trashed . maybe Capcom will learn something.

a fucking 40$ for an old game that was released for 15$ on Xbox fucking 360 and PS3 10 years ago.

fuck off Capcom. I hope u don't sell shit. greedy fucklets. they even have the nerve to announce the price as if it was fucking amazing deal. a violent ken. omg wow !!

also, you're ridiculous
Man, I'm not capcom. I don't give an eff whether the game sells or not. Like I said, I never liked super or super turbo. If it's missing some stuff, news to me. Thanks for the update. All I know is that the game does that Halo graphics gimmick where u can play the game with old graphics or the crappy udon graphics from HD remix. Again, never liked the core game but it's still street fighter so it's playable.

My post was to counter the "it should be 20" crowd. Dollar value is subjective so Go with God on that one. However, if people are going to compare this to the 7.99 SNK games, I felt compelled to point out that this is considerably more of an effort. 40 bucks more? Up to you. I'm saying that for me, the art books are fantastic, game has multiplayer, and the Hado thing is completely new.

I think the reason this post irks me so is because it so quickly devolved into a personal attack. You don't like this release? Don't buy the game. You want more details on additions or omissions to the core mechanics? Apparently Jwongg can set u straight and YMMV.

BUT is this a cheap dirty port? Absolutely not. That was the point of my post. Also, if you look at the treehouse reveal, ono and capcom specifically stated that the intended audience is those nostalgic 30 something's who just got a switch, havent played In years, and are looking for a SF that they recognize.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that isn't NeoGaf, isn't the Esports crowd, and this crowd is just looking for an easily playable SF game. Most of the hardcore franchise fans probably don't give a crap and will pick it up on the cheap for disposeable portable fun.

But yeah, man. Disagree? Sure. But wtf...calling me ridiculous? For what?

Glad it's 28e in France. But physical :(

Bought for that price.

It's really to have a multiplayer quality game'on the go that I can play With friends anywhere. Otherwise injustice 2 and tekken7 will take my playtime on tv

Such a shame, SF2 is a game I would be happy to have portable, but not at the price that is being asked with the content being given.

Watch this fail to sell and have support for the Switch get axed because of it. Such a poor effort.

Expected bad review scores. I don't know how they can justify that ridiculous price point. I feel that even at 15, the games' price would still be debatable.

Yeah that's basically me (34 years old and used to play Street Fighter as a kid). I have not gotten into any of the new street fighters. Most of my friends/cousins are in their 30's and I know they'll have a blast playing this game. Of course cheaper is better, but a price of $40 is not going to stop me from buying something I think I will enjoy. For most 30-something gamers, time is a bigger constraint than money.

yes, the master plan of all developers: to stop developing

For Nintendo platforms, yes. We've seen it time and time again, half-assed 3rd party effort (late port, or just plain bad game made by B-tier dev) comes to Nintendo console, flops, publisher claims "well it seems Nintendo fans only want Nintendo games" and then support ends.

This shit has become tiring.

It's not going to flop.

I wouldn't call this a big name either.

Street Fighter is not one of Capcom's biggest franchises? What?

This game is great. It plays great, it looks good. It's fun and it has online play. And you only need one pair of joy-cons for local mp.
I bought this for full price because I support good games. SFV on the other hand was a piece of crap, even at 29,99.

3DS launched with 4 and it was a pretty big hit selling like 1.4M units. An ultimate edition of 4 or even some of those Resident Evil ports would've been a better project.
RE4 Wii was a massive success on Wii and you can replicate the control set up for it and the other 2 games on Switch too. Nintendo fans would've ate up the first chance to play RE5 on Nintendo systems. But, no: SF2 for the 30th time at a bad price.
Isn't SF2 Turbo on Wii U eshop for <$8 anyways?

Like I said in the other thread; I had absolutely no qualms with Super Bomberman R's price which was relentlessly criticized, and even I can't defend the pricing of this game. I would've bought it in a heartbeat if it had a reasonable price.

Super Bomberman R was at least a new game in a franchise that didn't have a proper new game in a long time. This is just HD Remix with some slight modifications.

They didn't learn from SFV so I'm not sure they will learn anything here if the results are the same.
