The next episode of The Amazing Race will pit contestants against SFV pros

Polygon said:
The next episode of CBS reality competition The Amazing Race will include an esports challenge: Contestants will have to face — and defeat — a pro gamer in Street Fighter 5. That may sound like an unfair requirement; some of the world’s best Street Fighter players, including Seon-woo “Infiltration” Lee and Chung-Gon “Poongko” Lee, will appear on the show. Naturally, there’s a twist.

The Amazing Race will make the challenge slightly easier for contestants by providing them with a coach who will teach them the basics of Street Fighter 5. But if they can’t knock out their opponent in 10 rounds, they’ll receive an advantage: The pro player will be forced to play one-handed. If they fail 10 more times, the pro player will fight wearing a blindfold.

I expect everyone to have to resort to blindfolds lol.

20-0 me if old.

It was only a matter of time if they visited South Korea again! Another one of the tasks is going to be cup stacking from the preview.

Brooke & Scott for the win, btw.

They might need to be one handed, blindfolded, and wearing noise cancelling headphones because they're going to have sound and timings to pull off combos on these newbs without having to see the screen.

It's pretty cool if you ask me. Non-fighting gamers getting a crash course coach in a short period of time, having to go up against pros. Concept should be its own youtube series or something.

Maybe I am overestimating the skill of pro SFV players, but I feel like most of them could beat these people blindfolded.

In Amazing Race typically when against professionals every time the contestants are defeated the handicap is increased.

Like a time they had to compete with professional rowers in a race every time they lost the pros started like 50+ more yards behind.

They should make the pros play with only one button and no specials or something. Otherwise it's gonna be a bath of blood.

This amount of desperation is so sad. Or Maybe it's not even that. It's a very odd marketing strategy.

I always find it neat when professional gaming bleeds into these kinds of things. Seeing Ken (of SSBM fame) place 5th in Survivor was really amazing to see.

For CBS or Capcom?
Good question really.
lol. Desperation is their game in a primetime slot in a (popular?) reality tv show?
I didn't say it was bad. Just that the pulls to link back to SFV lately have been kinda everywhere. More than usual it seems this time around. Maybe desperation is the wrong word.
It makes sense for the network. TBS (one of their cable channels) is currently airing an SFV invitational series. So this is just corporate synergy in action.
Oh yeah I totally forgot about that. You're right.

It just comes off a bit weird to me but, I suppose it's not a bad thing.

Yup. it's gonna be 20-0 until blindfolds. Even then, I expect them to still struggle.

Edit: What happens if they lose another 10 times? There's a decent chance it might happen.

I honestly don't see how any of these people are going to be able to take one round when it's even. There's just no way.

Once they're down to one handed I could maybe see it happening by fluke, but these pros have such insane fundamentals that I could just see them playing patient and punishing everything with a sweep.

Most likely. I mean i used to tool people around with oro using one hand and im nowhere near the level of wong and company. A blindfold for them using the right character should be possible.

Didn't LI Joe demolish someone online with one hand? I see a one-handed Sagat and a One-handed Nash. I think Xian dabbled with this stuff back in the day, too.

Two hands with a blindfold isn't gonna do too much, especially if the pros can listen to in-game audio.

As a person who plays SFV regularly and i think I'm above average, yet when i played against Gllty online in 4 games i was barely able to take 2 rounds of her and she is considered way weaker than most Professional SFV players, so i don't know how can someone who is playing SFV for the first time beat Infiltration or Poongko.

i watch amazing race from time to time and the preview for the next episode had poongko and sfv so knew this was coming.

Honestly, this season the most enjoyable season of Amazing race I've seen in a while. They shouldn't be afraid to continue doing new shit like this and pairing strangers together.

One-handed sounds way harder than blindfolded.

Oh wow that's rad, right as I was thinking "well they're done for" continuing to read the quote just got me more hyped

Ten rounds to get a single knock out? I actually think if I tried harder at SF I could do it. All it takes is getting one good read sometimes! If they fuck up even a little and you capitalize on it it seems pretty doable

Except I can't play as Sean so what's the point

How's there corporate synergy when TBS is Time Warner and CBS is simply CBS, completely divorced from Paramount?

I love Pokken!
Will Poongko remove his shirt tho?
