Rank the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Movies

You realize they also used that subtitle for the third movie (unfortunately)?

Is it actually? Wikipedia says so, but I've never seen any material with the name on it. Of course it was what kids use to call it anyways in the 90s.

Edit: Just check my blu-ray box. It does indeed say Turtles in Time. Wonder how long after that fact that subtitle was added.

Don't see it on the movie poster or DVD box. (Or VHS box, which mirrors the DVD box.)
It's on more recent dvd releases

I think 1 is the best movie, but dammit I watched 2 about 800k times as a kid. I even kinda liked 3 in a weird way. Never saw the newer ones.

1. The Secret of the Ooze
2. 1990 movie
3. Out of the Shadows
4. Third movie
5. 2014 movie
6. That animated movie from 2007.

Ooze is my favorite because of how light-hearted it is and because of how much it feels like that first cartoon series. Plus Super Shredder is awesome.

The 2007 animated movie is underrated. Part of me wants to put it at the top, but nostalgia won't allow it.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze (1991)
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2014)
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III (1993)

I was surprised last time I did the Indiana Jones rank post
with so many people liking temple of doom,
let's see how this one turns out :D

There are only 3.

TMNT 1 > TMNT 2>>>TMNT 3.

I'm not trying to be a hardass, it's just a minor annoyance when folks tend to label the third film "Turtles in Time".

I know the blu-ray did, at the very least. It's weird, lol.

So they decided to slap a subtitle onto the film more than 20 years after its initial release? Does that happen particularly often?

1990 > 2007 >>>>> the rest

The 2007 animated movie is underrated. Part of me wants to put it at the top, but nostalgia won't allow it.

The thing about the 2007 animated film is that there were so many things that could have led it to complete disaster but it ended up pretty decent in the end. A fairly unknown director working with an unproven animation studio on a meager budget? It should have been utter trash.

But lo and behold, it was pretty damn good. In a perfect world that film would have spawned a franchise that led to more non-Shredder TMNT adventures.

First off, I'm legit surprised to learn I've seen every Turtle movie. huh.

Anyway, my rankings.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990)
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows (2016)
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze (1991)
TMNT (2007)
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2014)
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III (1993)

III is just awful without anything good in it, and the 2014 reboot isn't much better; it's also way too violent with the Foot running around with guns like terrorists. TMNT is boring, and I can't remember anything about that movie save for the Leonardo/Ralph fight, which I don't think isn't as amazing as everyone else says it is. I wonder if people like that movie a lot more than me because that was their first movie experience with the turtles, and they were the right age (actual target demographic) and fans of the current show at the time. I mean, it was neat to see a new Turtles movie in theaters after like 15 years, but it is so bland and reminds me of direct to dvd Disney movies in its lack of effort. Ooze is just goofy. Shadows surprised me as being enjoyable despite all the problems of the 2014 movie. The only serious problem I have with that movie is Casey Jones, who is terrible in every respect. The original is the only one I think that still holds up as an actual good movie.

I will say that the 2014 reboot gave me one of my better stupid film ideas, where a superhero is taken to court over the destruction of the city and accidental death of people. It'd be a dark comedy.

The original 1990 film holds up decently. It's definitely the best by far, I think. It's still worth watching. I enjoyed the second one too as a kid. The third one was pretty dumb.

I liked TMNT. I'd probably tie it with the second film.

The Michael Bay-produced reboot was ehh. It had some good stuff but I prefer the original by far.

Out of the Shadows deserves the criticism. It's all flash with a shitty story tying it all together.

1,2...the rest.

People rag on 2 but I must have watched it 490 times as a kid.
Go ninja go ninja go!

What? Who are these assholes?

TMNT 2 had way better fight scenes, cooler villains, and it had some decent jokes. "A little too Raph" still gets me.

The first movie was ruined by that ginger bitch Danny.

TMNT 1990 was actually a legit good movie. not a classic or anything but holds up surprisingly well

TMNT 2 was for the kiddos. meh, but it is what it is

not sure what they were smoking with TMNT 3

Nu TMNT was essentially a 90 minute commercial. like literally if you've seen the previews you've seen the movies. at least Transformers was enjoyable nonsense

haven't seen the new one yet. expectations are pretty low but maybe i'll be pleasantly surprised

edit: oh and the 2007 movie... i remember pretty much nothing about it.

The first one in 2014 was better than Out of the Shadows.

1. Original
2. 2014
3. 2007
4. Secret of the Ooze
5. Out of the Shadows
6. the Japan one

TMNT 2
TMNT 2007
Turtles Forever
TMNT

And we'll put TMNT III at the far far bottom. I haven't seen the original in like 10 years, and I've never seen the Michael Bay ones. Turtles Forever is a goddamn gem though and it does not get the praise it deserves.

1. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990)
2. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows (2016)
3. TMNT (2007)
4. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2014)
5. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze (1991)
6. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III (1993)

1. TMNT (1990
2. TMNT 2
3. TMNT (CG film)
4. Out of the Shadows
5. TMNT 3
6. TMNT (2014)

The original is the only one even approaching good, though.

What better fights? You mean the ones where they couldn't even use their weapons?

The first one is a legitimately good film, which surprisingly still holds up.

The rest are varying degrees of trash. (Revisiting the second one as an adult was not a good idea.)

1. TMNT 1990
2. Turtles Forever
3. TMNT 2007
4. TMNT 3 - Fuck anyone who hates this movie. I think it's awesome. They actually use their weapons in a fight.
5. Out of the Shadows
6. TMNT 2
7. Bayturtles

The rest don't even exist to me.
They are even worse than the Star Wars prequels which is quite a feat actually.

3 how anyome can except what they did to the puppets in this movie is beyond me. What they did to splinter alone ffs!

Think I've only watched the 1990 live-action original and the 2007 one. I do have Secret of the Ooze though (along with the 1990 film), I might take some time to watch it someday.

The 2007 one has some really good CG and fight scenes, but other than that, I'm with everyone else that the 1990 one is the only Turtles film really worth watching and/or the only film that can be considered an all-around good film.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990)
Secret of the Ooze
TMNT
Out of the Shadows
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2014)

Yes, the 2014 movie was complete and utter trash. Just pure shit. I'd watch III on repeat for a week before I watch 2014.

Dead

well not really...yet
The first movie holds up, and also has one of the most iconic on screen representation of New York in a movie IMO. That along with the amazing costumes, memorable music, late 80s/early 90s grime atmosphere hold it up as one of the best early comic book films.

The first 2 movies were the best, hands down.

The 1st stands up even by today's standards, which demonstrates what a damn good job they did with it. It was batman begins or dark knight for ninja turtles before there ever was a batman begins or dark knight.

The second one was amazing also, though not quite as epic as the first. The second movie, to me, has one of the most memorable and well done openings for a movie ever. I remember it so well from my childhood, where they did such a damn good job of showcasing just how much the city loves Pizza. There was even a scene with cops eating pizza while they had someone under arrest.

I can't even think of a MCU film with a better opening.
