Capcom thinking out Switch support, talks about Capcom's future and IP revivals

Fucking Capcom. I wish they'd sell Megaman to Nintendo.

I hate that this will never happen. It's such a no brainer idea, especially if Capcom has no interest in doing anything with the IP.

At least sell them the game rights, Capcom can still own the TV rights if they want.

Capcoms status que for the last few years is taking 1 step forward and 1 step back. Still better than 2011 Capcom and that would take 1 step forward and 2 steps back.

This title is a hot mess in some ways.

People still play Super Turbo (a 23-year-old game) competitively. If Capcom would've provided a straight and faithful Super Turbo port, then they could've added to the competitive roster of the Switch, which has the potential becoming an eSports beast with stuff like ARMS and Splatoon 2 coming out.

Reminds me of when EA tested their support for Wii U by releasing an ME3 port at full price mere days before the trilogy collection came out.

To anyone that says Megan Collection 2 is not coming to Switch -

Switch is not out in Korean as of right now.

To be honest, I kinda hope Capcom does a special version of the game with both collections on the same cart (since the first skipped Wii U). Call it MMLC complete or something

And maybe toss in MM soccer as an exclusive...

So Capcom is putting their faith in a niche genre. I love fighting games and all. I really do, but this isn't the type of game you release on a God damn portable and expect miracle numbers. Shit there are so many other ports that would do better.

So if we want the likes of a new Mega Man collection/game of any sort, Monster Hunter or stuff like Ace Attorney, etc we have to basically buy Street Fighter?

Capcom wtf

Why do people think Capcom is doing nothing with the Mega Man IP? They're still selling merch. They're making a show. They're still using the IP to make money.

I mean, they're shitting on you while they do it, but that's besides the point.

Capcom....just give me a Shadow of Rome sequel with gladiator arenas and battles that I can choose after finishing the main game. Please.

HAHAHA I was right all along, they really are using USF2 as a benchmark for their future Switch support.

Capcom, you fucking idiots.

The handling of the SF and RE series this gen are just two of the most baffling decisions of all time in gaming. If you add in the recent debacles of DMC and Dead Rising? This is a company gone mad.

$40 for SFII vs slapping 4 new characters in the SF5 engine and calling it SF6, which seems like a better idea?

Great. Another awesome IP Nintendo can sit on... What an improvement!

Lmao if you bought a switch and expected third party games. Sorry I got bad new for you, but only Nintendo games will sell millions on the system.

I expected Japanese developers, at least fucking Capcom who were successful on 3ds, to attempt bringing their AAA games to it.

One of these problems is that they don't have enough people

The lack of people is due to the fast advancement of tech making every title require more people than ever

Also the development of their current I.P and new I.P means they have even less time to bring back old titles

I wonder if that includes recent IPs like Dragon's Dogma or is he only talking about dormant IPs like Onimusha,Dino Crisis etc?

That still doesn't sound like the best statement. How is the Switch anything like the DS or Wii? There is no new control scheme to toy with, the "gimmick" is an inherent feature of the console that developers don't even need to really address. I guess beyond scaling from handheld mode to docked mode.

Capcom is weird man

Obviously, you are right about Switch being inherently flexible but you have to wonder if local multiplayer games will sell best on Switch or if all kinds of software sells. There is a difference between a game like Resident evil and Streetfighter. You have to consider many variables when you decide which games you will release on Switch.

Don't get me wrong, I'd buy it on the Switch in a heartbeat, but Capcom seems to like the 50 mil install base of PS4 more than the Switch's. They didn't even give us a Resi4 remake. How sad is that?

MH as a franchise sells way better on handhelds than consoles and Japanese PS4 sales are not that great.

I think this overthinking of stuff lead to the shit that was on the Wii. It lead to EA's stupid "All Play" series. Dude, it's a console, just make the same damn games you make for other consoles. That's what people want. It's bullshit like this that sullies their reputation with players. Make RE7 on the NS, make sure it runs well (maybe add in gyro aiming) and be done with it. Simple and easy.

Rarely are IPs ever sold off unless the company collapses. It's best to retain the IP than sell it to the competition where it has the potential to be a money maker for the competition.

Ask me about the moon landing or the temperature at which jet fuel burns. You may be surprised at what you learn.
Capcom is run by a bunch of dumbasses.

Even when they have success stories like RE7, they still fail.

What a fall from grace.

This is literally translated to:
As Capcom, we aim to bring games to all platforms, and continue our research.
As for the Switch, in May we will release USF2 and we will plan our support while looking at the situation [of the platform].

So basically this is a quick plug for their next release in the pipeline, while giving the general "we look into it"-response any company gives. The word "sales" doesn't come up once.

Doesn't sound that bad. They don't want to make announcements at that point.

I mean it's all been said already. You have to wonder if companies like this are taken over by Skynet after growing to a certain size. The statements and decisions are so fucking bizarre.

"If you don't buy a game you've played eight thousand times since the Super Nintendo days on your brand-new, expensive console, it's a clear sign to us that you have no interest in Capcom games in general."

I mean on the switch so far that's the case no?

I think the best selling game so far is Bomberman R at over 500k copies. My guess is that Minecraft will definitely get to a million fairly quickly. There aren't any other massive standouts at the moment, but I would imagine games like NBA Playgrounds probably sold best on the NS. Probably some other games as well.

But they didn't say anything like that if the updated translation in the op is right..

But the current best selling game on the console is an open world single player title... That's why this type of posturing makes no sense, especially before they've even tried multiple types of games.

Yup, I agree fully with this. One of the biggest attractions of the Switch is that you get full console games on a portable console. That's why Zelda is currently the best selling game on the console. Yet somehow Capcom sees that data and says, "hmmm what brand new games can we make that take advantage of its differences" while it announces ports of last gen games for stationary consoles.

If you really want to make these "unique" games then by all means do so, but why does that have to come at the expense of their traditional games?

Rarely are IPs ever sold off unless the company collapses. It's best to retain the IP than sell it to the competition where it has the potential to be a money maker for the competition.

Right which is why I said it'll never happen. By no-brainer I meant the pairing is a no-brainer, Nintendo and Megaman. Hell, Nintendo has treated Megaman in their own games better than Capcom has in the last decade or so.

But yeah I understand due to business realities it's not gonna happen.

Capcom promised AAA games Switch support a few weeks ago, they worked with Nintendo on the Switch (that's why it got 4gb ram), they wan't to port the Resi 7 Engine and people get crazy about a probably wrong translation. This is the internet.

When did they promise AAA support? Because they just announced Dragon's Dogma with no NS version....

Now, I think judging the support for the Switch based off an overpriced port a game everyone's played 50 goddamn times already is incredibly stupid. But I think people are mis-interpreting what Capcom is saying here. I doubt they'd just drop support for the Switch completely when USFII bombs, rather they could just be using USFII to see what games work, and what games don't. If USFII fails, then that'll tell Capcom that Switch owners either don't want fighting games, or (hopefully) don't want overpriced ports. Their biggest cash-cow at this point, Monster Hunter is far too associated with Nintendo right now, so I don't think Capcom will just not bring it over to the Switch, same with Ace Attorney. One way or another, Capcom will support the Switch.

Still, I think they could've picked a much better game to test the waters. USFII is such a poor choice for first game, and the fact that it's $40 only adds further insult to injury.

They said they want to bring AAA games to Switch, doesn't mean that they are ready or that every multigame comes to Switch asap. In fact we don't know if they meant multigames with this, could also be Monster Hunter etc. (if they see their biggest ip as AAA)
