The trademark application that Matt Hardy filed for “Broken Matt Hardy” in March has been given an initial refusal by the US Patent and Trademark Office. PWInsider reports that the registration application was denied because it “identifies only the name of a particular character/personal name” and doesn’t function in a way to “identify and distinguish applicant’s services from those of others and to indicate the source of applicant’s services.”

Essentially, what this means is that Hardy filed the trademark without naming any services (such as DVD sales, merchandise and the like) that it would be associated with. The application only listed “Entertainment services, namely, wrestling exhibits and performances by a professional wrestler and entertainer.” Impact also filed a trademark request for “Broken Matt” on April 28th that is for “DVDs featuring wrestling performances, interviews with wrestlers, backstage happenings and behind-the-scenes information; wristbands; commemorative photographs; posters; trading cards; clothing, namely, shirts, t-shirts, sweatshirts, caps, visors and arm sleeves; entertainment services, namely, wrestling exhibitions and performances by a professional wrestler; entertainment services, namely, ongoing wrestling exhibitions and performances by a professional wrestler and entertainer rendered live and recorded for the purpose of distribution through broadcast media; and toy action figures and accessories therefor.”

Hardy has six months from today’s refusal to respond before the application is abandoned.

KENTA was an Important and Influential wrestler but Hideo Itami is one of the most bizarre and puzzling signings by Paul. Injuries aside, his style, his presence and his entire shtick was never, ever going to work in WWE. Definitely a "Fuck you, you can't have him" signing.

That was a pretty dope storyline I thought, hampered by of course, his injuries. The shotgun dropkick was a super weak replacement. He should have just done a head kick instead or something.

But I'm pretty sure he was a guaranteed failure. I can't see NXT, let alone WWE making Itami work no matter how healthy he was.

He was definitely one of the more difficult developments, even before all the injuries and indy raids made his already aging style/performance obsolete

I feel bad for Hideo since it's clear HHH did have some plans for him before the injury struck him the first time. Even giving him the title shot after his second injury shows he still has some hope, even if it's probably gone by now and he'll likely never get the belt.

The 'who attacked Hideo' angle would have been cool if it somehow lead to Finn having done it for a heel turn.

I'm pretty sure he's donezo, like NOAH.

Hopefully AJPW can poach a few people before they fold. Marufuji to NJPW would be swell, focus all the people Data really hates into one promotion.

Mmm, Shiozaki is the only guy who ticks all the boxes I think and I think he's Japan 4 lyfe. NOAH is pretty bare talent wise. I mean they have good wrestlers. Maybe Ohara? He's 205 Live fodder but still very very good.
