Monster Hunter XX coming to Switch

As I think about it more and more announcing game via twitter seems really fishy...

Maybe there's a bigger announcement at the event?

Mh3g was announced on a game magazine, days later there was a event where it was shown to the public. They also announced mh4 there.

But that doenst really mean anything, is not like they have to announce anything the same way as before. Heck even if there is another announcement it doenst have to be MH or Switch related.

Okay, so my commute is like an hour or so now, and this is a Capcom/MH game. I was going to wait, but I fear I might buckle for Ultra, this game, and maybe some Breath.

The fact that they chose to randomly announce it via Twitter seems really weird to me...

Why would you just announce pre-event when there's lot of anticipation behind it?

Only logical reason that I can come out with is that Capcom has planned an another major announcement for the event.

I'm hoping for a US announcement at E3 and release on March 2018 I think? I want this game like yesterday but things take time.

Fighting Gobul underwater is beyond Intersellar-docking-scene-levels of disorienting. Why water battles WHY?

I don't know because it's my first MH or something, but the first time I faced Lagiacrus underwater is terrifying.

Hell yeah!

I held off getting XX on my 3DS because I always hoped it would come to the Switch. Didn't want to grind a lot on the 3DS version and then do it over again on the Switch if it ever came.

Can't wait to get this.

They have. But the reason I'm happy is Capcom's sales expectations in Japan this year are too low for them to have a new Monster Hunter launching before April.

And even in the case when they teased 4 for the first time, 4 still didn't come out until almost 2 years after 3G/3U.

With that in mind, whatever they may announce still won't be a part of this fiscal year, in any case.

How do Monster Hunter tournaments work?
Didn't even know there was a competitive scene.

That's a good question. All I can think about is doing sets of arena challenges, since those involve fixed setups for characters and feature timer-based commendations.

There was an actual versus mode in the PS2 version of MH2 that involved, strangely enough, each player getting their own monster to fight alongside them, and the idea was to see who could kill the other monster first.

My main issue isn't that I'm expecting this to be a lackluster up port. It's that Nintendo still can't get the dang system in stock long enough. I'm not feeling optimistic that they're gonna get their production up enough for whenever this comes out. And I feel that even if they do, they'll prioritize shipping more consoles just to Japan and screwing over the rest of the world.
Poor horizon

The West is definitely getting both the 3DS and Switch version. Capcom isn't localising MH stories just to then give the middle finger to the 3DS user base.
I expect cross-play and cross-save, just like with 3U, and some basic graphical upgrades. Hopefully, without input lag and frame rate issues this time.

Capcom should give those who bought the game from the JP eShop a steep discount (50%?). It would help them generate some goodwill after saying there won't be a G version and keeping quiet about the Switch version. Sales of XX show they can't nickel and dime their fans forever.

I think that they do publish them in Europe, but Capcom has such a tiny presence in that region that it's practically a necessity.
Capcom publishes MH in Europe, too.

Well Monster Hunter Stories is Nintendo published.
Is it? I can't find it on NA's site but the European pages list Capcom as the publisher.

I do think visually it will be upgraded. 3Us versions came out at the same time and was a shoddy port at best with the textures and input lag. This is a version releasing after the initial release for a new system. They aren't just going to advertise it as that 3DS game port in the west. It'll look nicer I bet.
You should be looking at the JP release dates. 3U for Wii U came out 1 year after the original 3DS release. They did spend more time on it than on P3rd HD which was basically just a PSP game running in an emulator but they also introduced control and frame rate problems. I just hope that was due to them rushing to make it in time for Wii U's launch and not a sign of how little they care.

More on topic:

What do you think the control scheme will be like? Similar to the WiiU port of TriG? Will touch screen be important? Motion controls like the Wii version of 3?
I expect the same control scheme as on 3DS, minus the 2nd screen stuff, of course. I do hope they will let us put item shortcuts at the edges of the screen.

Three of my biggest issues with Monster Hunter in the past have been:

1) Bad camera controls, first with the OG 3ds, then with the N3dsXL nub. Neither felt good or were easy to use. The Switch thankfully has 2 complete analogs so this issue should be gone.

2) Ugly 3ds screens making for a jaggy, visually confusing game. Sometimes, on the 3ds MH is just hard to make sense of visually. Switch should take care of this as well.

3) Player motivation(?) MH is almost Animal Crossing like in that you are dropped into the game and then you just hunt. I never got a sense of progression or narrative or more varied gameplay. I don't know when or how this will change.
More varied gameplay? Each weapon is its own thing. Each monster is its own new challenge.
The sense of progression is when you realise you can finally kick a monster's ass and are no longer getting flung across the area. Feels pretty good.

Didn't even know there was a competitive scene.

From what I've seen, it involves individuals or teams being pit against high level monsters with certain sets of armor, and vying for the best completion times in order to advance to the next round of competition.

It can get pretty cute/awesome because there's even the likes of parent-child tournaments where you see actually solid teams of moms and kids throwing it down with the best of them against the likes of Deviljho and etc.

Tag team speed running sound badass.
