They ask you "would you like some Coke?" and you say yes, but you did not expect them to come out with that... thing.

You cannot say you don't want it now, because that would be rude.

You reluctantly take it and place it in your mouth fully expecting it to taste like waste water from a washing machine, and it does.

You torture yourself with gulp after gulp, because you don't want to leave the glass standing there full, that would be rude.

You try to hide your disgust, but they can sense it. You can sense that they can sense it. Crap.

Oh God why did I agree to come?

Get over yourself and drink it. They're offering you hospitality and you're gonna look the gift horse in the mouth? It's a drink. Don't judge.

If it bothers you that much ask for water next time.

I would rather enjoy the fact of being invited than worry about what kind of beverage I'm served.

I hate this in restaurants.

"Can I have a coke, please?"

"Sure"

(Bring you a Pepsi)
I had some fish and chips at a restaurant a while ago and explicitly asked for a Pepsi. They didn't have Pepsi so I got a Coke instead.

"You want to come over and watch the fights? We are going to BBQ and everything!"

You arrive only to realize they are planning on watching the fight via a shitty, stuttery Kodi stream.

OP seems like the person that will bitch about drinking bud light at a party.
I would...like Wtf. Bud light is like mineral water that was warmed up thus killin flavor and whatnot then chilled. at least Coors light would do.

awhy are you drinking soda? lol about being a soda snob you are still drinking sugar water.

"hide your disgust" are you serious w this classist-consumerist aggression

I can't even fathom this. If I'm out and meeting someone I get what I want. If I'm going to someone else's house for no good reason it's BYOB. If I'm going to someone else's house for a proper special occasion there's always tea or water.

Op doesn't know about cultural differences on how people name a drink. Some name drinks coke, soda or pop. The normal drink being coke/Pepsi/store brand cola.

Open your mind, there are a lot of things to understand.

OP, don't let the nerds in this thread get to you. You were offered a Coke and were clearly deceived. Tell your friend that he can stick it.

Where are you guys from that "Coke" is just the generic term for cola? Every single time I've asked for Coke in a restaurant that doesn't have Coke, they give me the "Pepsi OK?" line. Every time. I have never, in my life, asked for Coke and been tricked into RC without warning. Obviously it's different at someone's house, but if someone gives me off-brand cola while calling it Coke, I thank them, drink it graciously, and then delete their number from my phone, because clearly I'm never talking to them again.

When I was in college I'd buy "Cola" as a joke. The cans looked like something nonspecific you'd see on a movie set and I found them funny as hell (can't find a pic though)

I never hoodwinked anyone with them though, and I let them know they could toss it if it was gross (they weren't that good)

In a lot of southern states of the U.S., Coke is the slang that often is used for all sodas.

Coke is a very generic term here in the UK, tends to be 50/50 if somewhere will tell you its pepsi

like OP i supposedly friends with these people and is judging them for not buying the expensive product. this thread kind of puts into perspective how we elected a rich guy famous for looking down on people.

Host should be more honest when it comes to what type/brand of soda they have. "Coke" isn't a synonym for all soda.

OP should just suck it up and not complain about drinking off-brand soda. It's not that bad, you're just being a baby because you aren't drinking your favorite flavor of degreaser. If you don't want to drink it, say no thanks and move on.

Cheap knock off cola is bad? What about when you're offered a cup of coffee and it literally tastes like they got soil, burnt carbon and dishwasher and mixed it together?
