New Hot Shots Golf/Everybody's Golf/Minna Golf Beta Test

This looks like such a clusterfuck to me.

How did they spend so long on this game and end up with this? The last game was one of my all-time favourite games of any genre and all these years later this one looks worse. The aliasing, the poor textures, the bland characters, the stilted animations, running around the course for no reason, the distracting avatars darting around the place in front of you on the course with their awful run movements - all of this stuff looks worse than what we had before. Golf is not a hard sport to make into a videogame, gah, especially not when you have such a good base.

Fuck, I wish I was in the beta so I could see for myself... maybe that would change my mind. I guess I'll rely on this thread's impressions.

Who else has made a golf video game that's really open world where you walk or drive to different holes as well has having other activities like fishing.

I'm not sure what were expecting graphically- I believe the different character art styles in characters is due to to allowing people to build and customize their own. Otherwise the graphics look a lot better than playing the ps3 hot shots on playstation now. It's not a 60 dollar game either.

What is the putting like, is it like previous Hot Shots, or do greens still break like crazy?

I won't have a chance to really dive in until Sunday.

I would say less break than when we played at PSX in December. Lip in are much less forgiving than in WI though. The putting meter moves really fast in my opinion.

So in the beta your character has to be made by you or you can base it on some pre-made generic characters. There is a greyed out spot where you can make you character like any VS characters you have defeated. So there is some hope for the old characters like in previous games.

Thanks for the info! I'll continue to hope.

Gameplay is still awesome and addictive and I can tell I'm going to sink so much time into it. End of August is too long to wait 😧

Plays like hot shots. Voices are horrible. Aliasing is horrible. Customization is nice but having to play more than 9 holes to even afford one item in the shop seems a bit much.

You can run around and find coins too. I guess in the full game the fishing and karting probably earn you money too

Is there a confirmation anywhere that on the single player campaign the characters you can play with are not Mii-like create your own monsters? I loved the design of the old Hot Shots characters... I've been holding out on that hope since the old Hot Shots had little toons you customized for only tournaments only, but single player made no use of them.

Have a code (EU/UK), I can't be arsed redeeming it.

First 3 people to PM what they think is the cutest animal is, I will send the code to the person who picked the animal that I think is the cutest out the 3 (will flip a coin if 2 choose the same, 3 way tie will be random number generator).

I feel it's a bit more fair than who ever was lucky enough to browse the thread first.

Edit: Contest closed!

Played two rounds, huge HSG fan, especially the PS3 games. Gameplay is still solid, but the running around is nonsense, as is setting up the tee shots. Don't love the 3 click putting.

I got a code earlier this week (US) and I dont even remember signing up at all...

Must be that playstation awards website deal? and most people unable to get it while being signed up there ... or who knows

I own both games (one digital) on PS3 so I guess that isn't it. I don't think the first ps3 game ever went digital though.

What time is it?

They are both available digitally.

Game is really cool love the character creation my gf and I were laughing our asses of making the ugliest characters possible. The Open Course social aspect is interesting, it makes for dynamic gameplay you trying your best to put and random people cheering you on or when you miss everyone drops to the floor in disappointment it was pretty funny. But I have to agree with everyone english VO is horrible. Still a good game 7/10

Am I the only one experiencing micro stutering when trying to make a shot? I've missed a bunch of perfect shots because there's a weird stutter that keeps throwing me off. The game looks like something of the last generation but it's a lot of fun. People shouldn't write it off just from watching gameplay videos.

For those of you in the beta....

I noticed a weather icon when choosing the course to play. Is this something you can change? I loved being able to change the seasons in Hot Shots Fore so you could play in Fall and Winter and it would change the conditions of the course to make it more challenging.

looks ugly and janky. What's with all the flickering and people appearing/disappearing all over the course?

Still looking forward to it, but i'm disappointed so far.

Overall impressions seem like people are happy with the gameplay, but disappointed with the graphics/sound.

Hoping gameplay makes up for the rest.

It's certainly janky alright.

The engine is strange. On one hand everything is so damn colourful, and the courses are fun and creative compared to the real world courses of other golf games. The water looks lovely too. There is something initially very refreshing and old-skool about how everything looks.

But then you see the aliasing. The terrible character models - their faces! The terrible animation. The flat grass textures - in a game all about grass! The dodgy voice noises and dodgy translation in the written text. And you realise, Clap Hanz is not living in 2017. This feels like an early PS3 game, and that's being generous, especially considering the PS3 version of EG was probably superior to this.

But yes, it's fun. But it feels like a budget title.

Birdied my first 2 holes then had to struggle to save pars the rest of the 9...guy doesn't hit it far enough to start...love it so far it's hot shots.

Only thing is what's with the round patch of shaggy grass around each cup on the green?

The graphics are definitely rough, but it doesn't take away any of the fun. And I actually enjoy the people running everywhere -- it just feels really busy and like you're in a really busy space, and doesn't get in the way of the actual golf as much as you'd think.

I wouldn't expect the visuals to improve much, I think this is what you're getting.

Really not concerned if the graphics aren't to the level of quality of games like Witcher 3 or FFXV. I play Hot Shots for the gameplay and if people are saying its good then I'm happy. =)

I checked out some PS3 videos and compared with videos of the new one - I think the new one looks objectively better.

Yeah, the player models are not as nicely anti aliased or designed but that's pretty much the only fault I can find.

Maybe I can take some time to do some screenshot comparisons later.

It's been in development for quite a while I'd say they prioritised content and gameplay over visuals.

Much thanks to Murkas for the demo code, downloading now. Can't wait to try it for myself, hoping it plays better than it presents in videos.

I find it really hard to find decent 1080p screenshots or videos of Everybody's Golf 6 (PS3 version) online so if you could produce some that would be great. I remember it being a really clean, good looking game considering it was port from the Vita.

I really don't think the graphics are that bad- you have to consider that these cartoony style visuals are never going to look stunning at high resolutions. Then again I'm using a ps4 pro so not sure how much if it all that is helping with boost mode on.

I wish I could remember what hot shots looked like on the ps3 but it was so long ago. I only know that streaming hot shots on playstation now looks like poop compared to this.

Gameplay is fine, everything else seems like a mess.

Would have rather had a proper EG game than this open world one.

Graphics are fine but everything else is a slog to get to the gameplay. There is a good game in here surrounded but unnecessary crap.
